New ALPINE A110R! REVEALING the MYSTERY CAR at The Shmuseum

There's been a mystery car at The Shmuseum, and it's time to pull back the covers to reveal the Alpine A110R! You've seen it in the background of recent videos, and now I'm taking this £100K secret out for a drive to share what it's like. In theory, it's right up my street, let's go and find out!
It is of course an Alpine A110R! The A110 has grown up into a carbon fibre clad, lightweight, dynamic machine and the folks at Alpine UK have dropped it off for me to take out for a first drive and share that with you. Matching the power of the A110S, the GT works on saving weight with extensive use of carbon and features like racing harnesses to replace the 3 points, for a total saving in comparison of 34kg.
Not specifically limited per say, although with the 32-unit run of the Fernando Alonso edition and 100-unit Le Mans edition, even the regular A110R is far from a common sight - especially considering the base price landing just shy of £100,000 - before you've gone over with some optional specification. However, as a big fan of cars that put driving experience first, on paper this is up my street so let's head out for a drive and find out!

@@Shmee150 I generally don’t love french cars, but for a weekend warrior weapon, you could certainly do a lot worse than this. A used Porsche Cayman or Lotus would be worthy competitors, but I’d really like your informed opinion on the refreshed MX-5.

A Cayman or a Lotus would in my opinion be a much better choice. You will hear car dealers cursing French cars as things break on them like they were made to be broken! As a car lover I would go for a Porsche Cayman GTS

It is a brilliant sports car so fun to drive, glad you reviewed. Most people say the a110 ‘pure’ model is the one to get and differently cheaper. I brought one and can’t complain. It is so rare people stop you and ask what it is, it also so small and isn’t recognised as a sport car until it effortlessly zips past other fast cars. It makes it easier to drive in public because it under stating its sport car credentials. I plan to hold onto mine for a very long time.

I am currently searching for the right lightly used A110 for me. Test drove the GT and absolutely adored it to bits. I mean, it was the comfortable version and totally chill to live with in city traffic and yet it turns into an absolute hooligan the moment you press that red button on the steering wheel. Perfect everyday sportscar in my opinion.

One of the best handling cars ever made, and the fact its got a relatively quiet cabin, cruise control and a decent Focal speaker system makes these cars (in my opinion) underrated. I understand people who dont like the engine and the artificial pops and bangs but none of that is the point of the car, its all about the chassi and lightness. I have a regular A110 and im thrilled every time i get in it. And another bonus is that 80% of poeple look at it when you drive around since they are so rare in Sweden.

Shmee! Hope all is well sir! I know I’m a bit late but as for the video with the R34 GTT(R) replica, have you gotten to experience the FL5 Civic Type R? I’d say it’s arguably one of the best future classics as far as JDM cars go! Semi-compact, reasonable power, and the best performance out of a FWD car to date! Definitely will need an exhaust but would make a great shmeemobile imo!

Decent little car, but those pops would have to go. I'd be driving straight to a tuner to remove them. And Tim......it might be time to junk one of your cameras, the forward-facing cam in this video is trash, so blurry. maybe from the vibrations, but the other cams were fine.

I love the Alpine and I would have a lot of fun driving one, but It looks just way too small, would get me claustrophobic, not even sure I can fit in it. How does it compare to a Toyota Celica? That’d help to understand the scale.

There is a tuner called Life110 which offers maps that delete the pops, along with different suspension tunes etc.
