Thanks for watching my video - yeah, not looking forward to the cold weather in the midwest US - is cold up there and just beautiful here. Why am I going again?

You always have such nice flowers! That’s Fredclarkeara is nice! We’re sort of doing the opposite with traveling. I’ll be going to warm Arizona over new years and you’re coming to the cold Midwest! Only thing I hate about traveling is missing my spikes ready to bloom and seed capsules maturing while away.

It sounds like you need an orchid cam on your plants in the midwest. Yeah - I would prefer to be there for blooms but it is better than nothing. I am hoping that I will not miss all of my blooms and many will still be blooming when I return. For my recent trip, I came back to find a plant on the ground will all of the media out of the pot, and another one that was barely hanging on to the hanger. Apparently, there was a strong wind storm and my wife did not notice plants down. I saw the down plant and rescued it immediately - not sure how long it was sitting on the ground - ugh. I have one seed capsule that might be ready - not sure if I should harvest it for flasking before my trip or wait. I am hoping to see some yellowing today or tomorrow - that will be a sign. You have good travels - it will be nice to return to your plants after.

@ i need more than the one orchid cam ha ha. That wind can be scary! I’m in the same boat. I’m flasking some Phal schilleriana seed today, but I have a Vanda falcata capsule that I’m trying to wait another week or so. It’s 6 months old and the capsule is variegated like the leaves so hard to tell. But I think it’s sort of maturing. Would hate for it to burst open while I’m away.

@@OrchidMarcus Although I have not done this, others have wrapped their capsules in fabric or fastened a container below the capsule to catch seeds if the capsule cracks open. Since my plants are outside, I am concerned about too much moisture if this happens. I understand that the Vandas can take a long time to mature so I am not sure what to tell you. I have a Dendrobium capsule that is only 3.5 months old but my other Dens took that amount of time or less to split. I just looked and I THINK that it is starting to yellow just a little at the ribs so, harvest likely in 2 days....

@ that’s not a bad idea! I may try wrapping the capsule! I’ll have to move it out of my grow cabinet so the seed don’t spoil in the humidity. I’ve heard Vanda falcata can take a whole year!!! Good luck with your plants and capsules and Happy Holidays!

Fu Shu Glory is supposed to fade into the pinstripes a few days after it opens (or at least that’s what I’ve seen many say). I hope it does cuz I just bought one too because I love yellow white contrasts

I don't see any flaring on your Foo Shu either, not even a hint... I'll be surprised if it still develops the well defined flaring we see in the producer's picture! And if it does, it is probably going to be a lightening of the edges of the petals, rather than the darkening of the flarings themselves. How could it come out so different if it is a clone???

This has been interesting - I saw another image of this same cultivar that looked similar to my plant, with no yellow flaring and some purple touches at the end of the petals. I do have another yellow flared cattleya that is also not as striking as the images that I see online (Ctt. Candy Corn). I do wonder if the growing conditions can influence this with some of the flared Cattleyas? I will have to wait to see if the color changes over time or over bloom seasons.....

How difficult is to pollinate them?Greetings from pompano Beach
@plantpropagator
@plantpropagator 3 күн бұрын
Pollination is pretty simple - you can take a look at the following video to see. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6uTqICbZcd_hbM I have other videos on the process. The challenge for most is growing plants from the seeds where a lab is often needed. You can grow seedlings without a lab but the process is really slow if you just place the seeds on bark or other media.
