honestly? i think earlier animation meme community is better. the outputs may not have always been PEAK in hindsight, but it was because you werent expected to meet a high standard. it was mostly just artists having fun and making something on the side between bigger projects- and it made more detailed animation memes feel more deserved and special when they were posted- especially because they could have more time to cook while their creators made smaller simplistic memes in the meantime. its hard to find memes i feel like doing these days because they all require so much work and such high standards. i suppose pkrussl's to blame for that, though.

I really miss the old animation meme era, where it was more about having fun and not caring that characters might be considered “cringe”. The colours and designs of the characters were a lot more fun to me. Now everybody just wants to look like anime. Now it’s about who can be the most perfectionist with their art and editing. Man, just seeing the character representing the 2015-2018 amc unlocked a lot of memories. A nice detail is them even having the headbopping which was a popular thing animators did back then. okay maybe this is a hot take, but one positive change in the animation meme community I've seen over the years is how people have grown to be more acceptable towards differences in art. I remember the drama back in 2015-2017 where people would claim that tweening "isn't animation" or "lazy" (neither of which are true) and youtubers would make "cringe complications" mainly composed of beginner artists or memes they believed were "low effort" (which was imo just a mean way to describe simple or short animation memes that people may just do for casual fun). nowadays I think the attitude has changed a lot, with a lot more tweening / short animation meme youtubers becoming popular and even a well-known youtuber who used to create these "cringe compilations" admitting that he regrets making those videos, and that's a huge improvement I'm really happy to see.

The whole tweening isn’t animation thing came back again for a short time. I remember I would see comments saying, “this is just a head bop, do more frame by frame” so, we sort of relapsed for a bit there but I think it has died down now.
