Sahib from Sam is being sold out, there are very few places (Sam Records is one of them) that still have some remaining stock of the original 3000 cut, but if you are thinking about owning one at a decent price - act fast. It's likely to become a highly valuable item in the near future and are unlikely to be re-pressed.

Another great vid, Mike, thanks. While I know a side by comparison is out of the question, I do wonder how, say, the Japanese Miles Ahead compares with the one that was a RSD release some years ago that was pressed at RTI, mono though, and mastered by either Bernie or Kevin as I recall. As they were reasonably priced I picked them all up, over a couple RSDs.

Sam Records - A lot of musicians went to Europe because their music was appreciated and they weren’t treated as lesser second class citizens because of their skin colour. Jim Crowe was still going strong and the protesters and demonstrators had yet to force the government to change policy. Also, jazz as a musical form was very respected in Europe.

DSD cut records can sound really good if done correctly! DSD (even the standard "double" DSD) captures a lot from the tape , then transferred to the record! Although I still say straight from the tape is best because it's untouched signal! Or I may not know what I'm talking about, but I am a nerd for this stuff!😊

Maybe you could consider getting a SACD DSD version vs the DSD to Vinyl cut. I've never heard a serious DAC that plays DSD files..

I have the 2011 (2) LP Journey Greatest Hits by Music On Vinyl. Mastered for vinyl by Doug Sax, originally by Bob Ludwig. That’s the only pressing I need of that comp 🤙

On that Journey Greatest Hits 2xLP, what does the flat master tapes refer to exactly? And it sounded like the hype sticker you read said this is a 2024 remaster? I have the Japan version of Kind of Blue. It was surprising that it was so noisy compared to some other Japanese pressings I have. Of course, the UHQR totally blew it away....

Sahib Shihab 5:29 - Kevin Gray cut it, but didn't master it (it was mastered by Sam Records' french mastering engineer like most other Sams). It's a great, great record - both for the music and the sound quality (there's a video on my channel).

Correct, this particular Sam record has been discussed on VC web forums to nausea. Kevin Gray cut the lacquer from the hi-res digital file sent to him from Fred and co. Danish Radio is the sole owner of the original tapes and was unwilling to send them over as such, so the copy was made and sent to Sam/Frank. Nothing wrong with that. Think MoFi and their methodology and practice on 95% of their vinyl reissues - very few are these days AAA from MoFi but they all sound fantastic.

if youn didn´t knew i can explain it easy ,all coloured records are not vinyl but wax, the reason i avoid buying coloured records .When i buy them from abroad ,i receive it from mail companies so sometimes they send me the coloured ones but either than that i do prefer vinyl which is black, before we used to call them records ,in english in my original language we call it "discos" as in discs
