New Audi RS6 v Audi R8: DRAG RACE

We’ve got our hands on the all-new Audi RS6 Performance, and we’re about to find out if it has what it needs to compete with Mat’s new long-term test car, the Audi R8 Spyder!
So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the Audi RS6, it’s powered by the same 4-litre twin-turbo V8 as the regular Audi RS6. However, power has been increased slightly over the regular car, and it now produces 630hp and 850Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all-four wheels via an 8-speed torque converter gearbox, and it weighs in at 2,090kg. If you’re looking to pick up an all-new one, it’ll set you back around £113,000.
Then we have the R8. It’s equipped with a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 which can produce 620hp and 580Nm of torque. This power is delivered to all four wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it weighs a fair bit less than the RS6, coming in at 1,695kg.
However, while it’s a lot lighter than the RS6, it’s also a lot more expensive, coming in at around £160,000!
So the RS6 is slightly more powerful, but surely a practical family estate can’t beat a supercar… Right?! There’s only one way to find out - LET’S RACE!

Launch control doesn't quite bypass the rev limiter, it just bring the limit a bit higher :) I believe on some Audi it's the gear selector that need to be in between position for the limit to be bypassed.

Hi there Matt! I have a quick trick for the soud check when the car has a softlimiter. If you hold the gear selector between neutral and drive, the gearbox wont engage neither the softlimiter system. Then you can reach that redline beautfull sound! Take care and nice content! (Works on most cars)

its actually strange to do that. myself and other r8 4s owners experienced a confusing behavior when doing kickdown in confort. it feels like the car is going into a kind of launch control. it shows second gear as example but you dont go forward. suddendly a gear will be kicked in and it shots off. in S it feels completly different.

Yeah naturally aspirated engines and dual clutch transmissions for the win :) The response is really nice and doesn't have any lag. I will say that the Lamborghini Huracan responds a bit better than the R8, but still really nice.

Yeah, but being naturally aspirated, it has a better engine response without turbo lag, and that dual clutch is really nice in terms of shift logic. Plus you don't see naturally aspirated supercars nowadays (although the R8 is also going away).

I think they have it in an Individual setting. Comfort mode in my RS7 doesn't squat like that because it is a reduced power mode, Dynamic mode launches flat with full power and keeps the weight over the front tyres, so my guess is an Individual setting with the cushy Comfort suspension and full Dynamic Power in the engine, gearbox and diff. Much better weight transfer to the rear, and hell, this RS6 launches.

The V10 Lambo motors are probably THE best sounding V10's ever. That deep bass growl is epic. :The BMW V10's from the M6/M5 in the mid to late 2000's are great as well. Folks rave about the LFA, which I am not a huge fan of the exhaust note, as it is raspier and not as deep.
