I love this change. I had a book that my son got signed that he was begging me to send out to CGC but I refused because I did not want him to get a green label. That book is now at CGC created with the label that will certify the signature.

Those new labels look great. I think there are some out there pushing for witnessed signature to carry more of a premium in value. I’m with you, value them the same.

I think Witnessed will still be a thing and preferred as it is in the sports world. Because in a JSA submission you are paying for them to say “in our opinion it is authentic” vs a witnessed signature. This is why Upper Deck, Tristar, Fanatics or Panini authentic items command a premium because you know they were witnessed.

I agree that the new black and gold label looks way cool, but i think the original SS series will continue to be worth more after all it was witnessed, only way to be sure. There will always be people who will want the witnessed book over the authenticated version. It may eventually even make the SS series worth more down the road. After all, we live in a world where people pay more for a newstand copy of a book with a barcode, that in my opinion looks worse than the direct editions do. But who knows i guess time wil tell.😊😊😊

This is cool for older signings that happened before witnessed signings, but I'll never treat them the same for how much they're worth. My wife has a serious hobby in calligraphy and I have zero doubts that she could forge 99% of the sloppy signatures if she wanted to spend some time at it. And given that there are so many calligraphy hobbyists out there, it just makes it too easy. Prediction: giant CGC verified forging scandal in 2025.

What if there was a person who was very good at forging names? This opens that market too in a bad way. Now, I'm an honest guy with many official sigs on my books and quite excited to send them into CGC because I know when I get them back verified, I know it's real. But I think we'll see more forgery get passed by JSA which some unlucky person will buy a fake. Let's hope not. Great video by the way.

Signatures can be faked with practice so i think Witnessed will always be prefered to Verified.

Witnessed signature is only a thing for comics. They don’t have it for sports and trading cards.

Is there a grade for the signature itself, on the back of the slab or in fine print? Some signatures are nicer than others.. ex Early Stan Lee vs later Stan Lee

7:35 - "...these won't be worth any different now." Respectfully disagree. Forgeries can be authenticated, but a witnessed signature will always be 100% legit. My copy of UF 4 is a "verified" signature from CBCS. I got it off Ebay for only $50 more than what the book was going for unsigned in the same grade. Highly doubt a "witnessed" signature would also have such a nominal increase in value.

I’m new to this. If I send cgc my book with an autograph on it I need to also buy the JSA add on so I can get a yellow label right? If I don’t I’ll get my book back with a green label ?

Still astounds me that you think witnessed is same as verified. No one and I mean no one believes that. Witnessed is preferred by a large margin. Verified signatures can be fake. Witnessed cannot.

I think witnessed with be phased out by cgc. It will still exist. But by cgc making this label look almost exactly like the witnessed. It says that even cgc thinks they are the same and will value them the same

I still think you're going to see witnessed get a bit of a premium, particularly on grail books. Glad to see turnaround isnt taking 10 months on verification, I'll begin preparing my stack.

Plus CGC just took away the one thing CBCS had over them. Now there is almost no reason to grade with CBCS while CGC slabs are worth more than CBCS.
