Interesting, thoughts adaptable, modular gear transport system. Adjust the sacks/bags/packs to the purpose and load to be carried. Sort of layering with your gear. Three days or more overnight use components #1,#2, and #3. One or two days overnight use components #1 and #2. Day hike or field scout just need component #1. The smallest, lightest component (#1) has enough capabilities to cover the 5 C’s of survivability, water and a snack. The other components (#2 and #3) add both capability and weight. They do not necessarily add a lot of redundancy or duplication. Each kit has kind it’s own unique load. In total, your ready to set up shop in the woods and park yourself for a week if needed. Scaled down, your prepared fro a shorter stay with less comforts and capability. All three components of the system are made in a similar way, with common materials and hardware. Tough, waterproof, sleek on the body, durable, and worth the investment. Looking forward to watching your research and development process. Be careful about protecting your ideas until you finalize your design. Plenty of evil people out there who might still your work. Please keep us posted. - Tennessee Smoky

Blackie I also have played with this idea. When I used to play in the 1760s I camped real light with a haversack,and with my blanket roll on a tumpline. And now that I need a walking stick when I explore I like to carry the extras in a small pack and attaching the haversack to it is a great idea. I look forward to your videos thanks.

Why not just modify your haversack to the ruck, that way it’s a complete system, at the end of the day you don’t have to fill your rucksack up just because there is room to do it. In the mindfulness of weight if your going to carry canvas like myself, load out mentality and seasons play a roll, me personally I have a hip and back issue so I do my best to be mindful but enjoy my ruck year around I’m getting my ruck this month and I’m attaching a pack frame to it

true and i am thinking the bag( knapsack ) will be a stand alone that your blackbird haversack can hook to and serve as top flap with no mods to it I am still working out details thanks for the comment

Cool. I do think having a light weightflap over the hole in the knapsack would prove useful to shed water.
@micheletremonti24348 ай бұрын
So here is a suggestion that might help you with the haversack to the muddled the top of the overnight pack, add a button hole to the blackbird that you can put a toggle through to attach it to the knapsack. Or pot the lg button hole between the flap on the blackbird and the body of it.

Sounds very interesting Blackie. Looking forward to seeing the new rucksack grow. The sad state of affairs though, is that it may pay to keep some ideas on the down-low until production. There are some people out there who may likely watch your ideas and use them on their own products and claim credit.

Always looking to improve! Just adding to the brain storming - what if there was a way to use the blackbird haversack without modifying it?
@paulthelefty3 жыл бұрын
Take the same webbing that you’re using on the bottom of the haversack, or maybe slightly wider than that, sew it across the top of the haversack where it folds over, extend it out two inches on each side, put grommets through it, and then put a couple more grommets in the middle so you can attach it around the handle point of the other bag. Then you can use soft shackles or some kind of toggle system to attach it to just about anything.

I like the concept of this bag but I have an idea of attaching the haves sack/top flap a little easier and still use the D-rings for the shoulder strap by also attaching 3 small side release buckles on the back of the top flap of the haves sack and if you want to secure it better to keep it from opening both of the flaps add 4 small side release buckles 2 to the haves sack itself on both the flap and sack itself and then 2 more on the bottom of the have sack and backpack to hold that down for more of a secure load with leaving enough nylon strap in both places to adjust for larger things if needed.

Blackie, I would like to get your take on the old Czech m60 rucksack. I have been modifying them for a while now and I like them a lot. They are also about the same size as that French ruck.
@ClayOgre3 жыл бұрын
Go modular? Different sections that can be combined. Kind of like those pants with the zipper in the pant leg. Unzip the legs and remove them, and you got shorts. Use the same concept for a rucksack/haversack/in between.

It might be a neat idea to have the removable haversack shoulder strap hook into that big D-ring and go over the haversack and clip on the bottom. Then you could use it as compression or additional lashing and could be quickly and easily removed, just something to kick around.

Blackie, I just watched you take the haversack strap out of the haversack, then talk about adding other ways to attach the bags together. If you had a piece of square canvas attached with two slots to the haversack, you could feed the strap through that and "belt it on" to the knapsack through the carry handle loop at the top,kinda like a Molle attachmemt

I would just use your haversack and then make a bedroll that straps around my back comfortably. That way I have my camp/bed rolled up and ready plus everything else I need is in the haversack.
@jem62053 жыл бұрын
I remember doing that back when I was in BS and we had a 3 day cowboy themed camping trip without horses. We had to bring our own food, fish, and trap/hunt or else we got baked beans. No one wanted baked beans. LOL

Just a thought sir, I do a lot of short overnighters with a haversack and a bedroll. How about making a bag which connect to the d-rings of a bedroll?

I think I'll modify my edc Blackbird haversack in the same manner so it's attachable to my camp cart. I'm also going to add a few grommets to facilitate closure (and perhaps lashing at the top. Again, I would also like to see a smaller haversack (½ - ⅔ the size of the original) to be a bit less obtrusive.
