It’s amazing that you’re able to implement this paper inside of Blender, the result looks incredible (anyone who is thinking that this is too much for them to understand - don’t worry, the GN system means that artists who do understand the mathematics can package up into something user friendly for others). Another tip I recently discovered for having a cleaner node tree is that you can have as many instances of the group input node as you like, and place them near to where you need them, meaning you don’t have to have connections stretching back all the way to the beginning. You can also collapse unused sockets, so you can have a group input that’s just one or two items from a really long list.

4:22 whether the interval is [0, N - 1] or [1, N] doesn’t matter, since the sine function is periodic and identical for i = 0 and i = N.

Very cool, it's incredible the kind of things people come up with using geonodes. The new hair system looks neat too - do you know if it's possible to do physics simulations on the resulting hair?
@JohnnyMatthews2 жыл бұрын
Well if you put the physics before the geonode it can work. Afterwards is tricky I think.

Hi there! when i add an empty hair curve and in sculpt mode i place a strand, it is way to big for my head sculpt, so when I add the geo node modifier with the braid control type it"s also waay to big, any way to adjust the scale of the hairstrand so it's in proportions to my model and its head?

Even after setting the domain to spline in duplicate elements node and adding resample Curve, I don't get any visible feedback. What am I doing wrong?
@burnaboyb88212 жыл бұрын
maybe i do something wrong but how you add a thickness with the "set_curve_radius" node only (14.20) without "curve_to_mesh"+curve profile as at 13.00?

Hey Johnny, question, what are the benefits of breaking up your geo nodes into different geo nodes modifiers in this tutorial series rather than doing it all in one node tree?
@JohnnyMatthews2 жыл бұрын
Two reasons: I was trying to show how each node was affecting the curves and by making a nodegroup a top level in a modifier it exposes the inputs to the ui rather than making tweaks in the node tree itself. Other than that there is no benefit.
@DanielPartzsch2 жыл бұрын
Awesome! So as far I can see with the new curves object you can not change the spline type to eg nurbs or bezier to get more smooth interpolation results with fewer curve points but instead you just resample the curve as much as needed and they get smoothed at render time then... Is this correct? Thanks a lot.

Hey, my curve doesnt have enough resolution , and neither of the sliders are helping. If I go to the render settings and subdivide the curves, it helps (adds more braid rows to it). How do I add it in the geometry nodes, so no all of my curves in the scene get subdivided?
@JohnnyMatthews2 жыл бұрын
Add a geo node modifier first in the stack. Put a resample curve node in it. Then apply that modifier.

You're killin' me man, @4:33 you want to add one to the index, so you use an Add node and add 0.5... may I ask why not 1.0? What is this voodoo you do? I want to make the first Astronaut in 2001 A Space Odysee have helmet hair (Viking Style)... this is slowing me down, because I have an infinite number of ways to procrastinate (!) But I'm serious, simple error, using some native rounding, so it was parsimonious (I use parsimonious like minimum step(s)), what...?
@JohnnyMatthews2 жыл бұрын
Simple error that was saved by rounding. My apologies.
@johnsmith569202 жыл бұрын
Well, I still have to go through it but I am pessimistic. When there are discrepancies between what you say and what you do on a tutorial the result is often poor. For instance at some point since we must have a beta/alpha ratio of 0.5 you decided to set alpha at 2 and beta at 1. As far as I can see you have an alp^ha value of 0.5.
@JohnnyMatthews2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, well sometimes a bit gets edited out because of bad audio, a blender crash or something. Sorry to disappoint.

@@JohnnyMatthews i believe you explained it near the beginning. Either way, diving by half is the same as multiplying by 2, both should work if that's the way they want to do it
