You have really changed my mind about the M5. It is an absolute animal and BMW know how to make an ultimate driving machine. The climate is changing and manufacturers have to do what they can to avoid fines. They don’t make these laws and regulations. So with that considered, this is a superb piece of engineering.

Great review Joe, I could only imagine the levels of disappointment if M Division had been forced to use an engine based on the B48 in the G9x like Merc AMG did with the C63. Us BMW fans need to be thankful the S68 is still sold, because it's days are probably numbered. As for my take on the M5, like the Audi RS6 it is too large for where I live so I am content with my M3 Touring. Looking forward to watching your M5 Touring review tomorrow.

Holy moly. What a car. My one regret in moving back to Oz is you can’t really enjoy a car like that here. But I did have a 94 Honda Prelude with that kind of rear wheel steering - drove like a go cart at speed, and I could reverse park into spots I had no right to…without a computer doing it for me either !

I think that Joes reviews are the best as he has had numerous M cars and he knows how they drive/feel. The M5 maybe heavier but 0-60 in 3.12 secs is amazing. It may look a bit podgy but to me it’s an M5 with tech,many driving modes which make it all the more drivable and engaging. Great video Joe.

I have been waiting for this for weeks and my biggest shock is the way into gets to 310 kmh (thats 192 mph !!) so quickly several times is astonishing. I also noticed on the drive-byes on the "A" type roads the car's poise and stability was sublime. It's without doubt a brilliant car worthy of the M badge. The weight issue is as much to do with the hybrid system and additional safety measures that are forced on to car makers by people who have no clue what physics is. However the BMW engineers have proved their skill and application is still at the top. I agree the size in the UK is going to be an issue as with the normal 5 series but look forward to your UK press car drive. Good review sorry about your sore throat, probably screaming like Sabine Schmitt when it went so fast!

What an incredible and beautiful machine! Love the way it looks and that gray color combined with the black wheels. It pulls to 300+ kmh with ease, and seems like it's so stable and comfortable at the same time. I can't imagine it's potential with a tune and what it will be able to do. BMW did a phenomenal job.

You can say that it is not possible to get the E39 M5's mix of V8 manual 4024lb curb weight anymore in modern times, but the CT5 V Blackwing does just that, V8 manual (supercharged with 668hp), 4067lb curb weight (as tested by motortrend with the carbon ceramic brakes). The argument of plasticky interior doesn't even hold because for 2025 Cadillac improved the interior while BMW cost cut the crap out of theirs. BMW is phoning it in for this car, you can tell because it is the first M5 that isn't head and shoulders quicker than its predecessor. It shows they don't really care about this gen. They had a hybrid XM drivetrain ready to go and put it in an 5 series and called it a day. The first dedicated M car since the M1 was the XM. They developed this drivetrain for the XM. That shows where BMW's priorities lie. Too bad the XM was a hopeless flop.

Theres no such thing as a 'lightweight' performance car anymore so we will just have to accept it - be thankful its still a V8 Twin Turbo unlike what some manufacturers have been entertaining as of late!! Great video BTW 😊

No it's not . U will regret saying this when they do a QM test with this vs the old m5 comp. They have similar 0-60 and that's bad new for the old m5 comp becuase this has a much higher torque curve after 60mph. It will get slaughtered. This is easily a 10.7 car on the street.

I admit I was quite sceptical about the G90, especially since I own an E60 M5. We have arrived in a time where enthusiasts and manufacturers have to compromise more than they would like to, but I’m glad the reviews we’ve seen so far are pretty positive, as expected from BMW M. The G90 reminds me a lot of the E60, because at the time the E60 was very controversial as well.

I remember my late dad during the early 90s told me that he swapped his honda accord with a an old BMW 5 series 525 bcoz a saloon must be heavy for stability 😅... i like this model m5 g90
