An extremely important point (that some Helix Stomp users discovered afterwards): for the Stomp, it's "up to 6 effects"... Clearly, if you choose effects that are too demanding in processor (like a stereo reverb for example), it will be less... When I discovered that, for me, the choice is made: it will be a core GT or a classic GT!

Bought this over the holidays. This thing rocks. It takes a little to get used to the user platform but after you get accustomed to it, it is very intuitive. Most of the patches in this are......eh at best but once you start making your own sounds it really takes a mind of its own. It also takes pedals extremely well🤘🏼

Great to see GTK product being given a fair shout - most reviews seem to look down their nose at BOSS even when reviewing but this was very refreshing to see. I use my GTK kinda like live interface, a hybrid rig utilising my Victory sheriff & the onboard amps with wet/dry effects... have been loving it! I live loop & also process my bass through it - handy. Happy new year everyone, hope it’s started well for you.

You guys have been missing out on the Power of the GT-1000s output select. It's the only modeller I know that can be plugged into an Amp and reshape the amp and cab to sound like a different amp in cab. In the room. Others just make it sound like a Mic'd amp playing through another amp. But I was able to use my GT 1000 to make my Fender Deluxe sound like My Vox AC15 and vice versa in the room. I went back and forth and got them close to identical. In comparison The Helix is kind of a joke.

I just wish these kind of demos had it simple and more to the point. Like, "Hey, this is how this unit does the Les Paul on a Marshall tone, this is how it does a Strat through a Fender tone, this is how it does the Gretch Hollowbody through a Vox (and a delay effect) tones, and this is how it does the Mesa Boogie/Diezel etc heavy tones through an Explorer/Flying V. Maybe we don't need so much noodling of the same blues licks through a Strat, cycling through mostly wet effects. Don't get me wrong, I love Pete's style and he is one talented cat. But a demo like this would be better IMHO with a guitarist like Rabea sitting with Pete and the Captain, to show the rest of the tones this unit can provide, in other genres of music. A bit of shredding and a bit of chugs would be nice. But it probably is very difficult, due to the Corona virus restrictions, is my guess. Anyway, I wish to Captain, to Pete and everyone here a happy new year!

There are a lot of those online and they seem to becoming more and more common. The "No Talking" demos are the best. But that's not really the deal with Andertons. Andertons is more like a talk show where instead of guests, they have gear.

I'm a GT 1000 user. I've been an advocate for it for years. Demo videos for it not been very good... And that pattern continues! What is the point of a GT CORE if you send it for a demo with boss pedals in the loop? They are literally in the unit! That current setup costs more than the GT 1000 and you get less! No issues with the Andertons video. They done their best here. Boss ... What are you doing!?

Thanks for your comment, this made me really suspicious. What the heck is the point of demoing multi-fx unit with extra pedals?! "We've borrowed this board from people at boss"... ok at this point, I don't trust this review in the slightest. Good review, but...
@voltnerstudios2115

Would you prefer if boss put someone else's pedals in the demo board? It's a pedal board multi effects - the idea is it works with your current pedals. They are in no way saying you should go out and buy all these products at once. As Lee said "we don't need to have these three pedals".
@aleksandergrzybowski8899
@aleksandergrzybowski8899 3 жыл бұрын
My immediate thought is "well, so if you don't need them, why do you have them at all?" :P I mean, I'm fine with folks trying out Iridium with extra pedals, it's meant to be used this way. But this new boss gizmo has pedals inside, I just checked their website: "The GT-1000 is loaded with the latest and greatest in BOSS effects" - so why not use THESE? Just feels strange.
@davedavem
@davedavem 3 жыл бұрын
@@aleksandergrzybowski8899 I agree with that, the GT1000 is a stand alone floor unit. But the core goes with pedals. Like the helix stomp, I've seen lots of pedalboards with a stomp. I'm saying all that I would have liked to see what it could do with expression pedals.

@electricmeatpuppet
@electricmeatpuppet 3 жыл бұрын
The HX Stomp is one of the best purchases I've ever made... there are hundreds of possibilities you can make without hitting the dsp limits with 8 blocks... sounds fantastic. The poly stuff being perhaps an exception, but honestly they're not something I really use much anyway. So much more user friendly, less convoluted and realistic sounding than the Boss units in my experience.
@mixodorians12

@@jonathonvargas3476 I was just correcting wrong information that Lee put out there my friend. I have no skin in this game. I have a Helix LT and the HX FX. One went back to the manufacturer after just 4 weeks of ownership, it kept crashing.. and has been with them for 8 weeks, the HX FX is really really good though. Think it has 9 blocks.
@SuicideVan
@SuicideVan 3 жыл бұрын
@@electricmeatpuppet the HX Stomp sounds like garbage when used in front of a real amp though. Just search "HX Stomp tone suck." Boss did it right with specific output filters for different uses. Decent enough direct to board or FRFR powered cabs, but 8 blocks is just shameful when an FX loop takes up a block on it's own and amps, cabs, and mics each take up a block respectively. So for an amp with an fx loop you've really only got 4 blocks for effects.
@electricmeatpuppet
@electricmeatpuppet 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuicideVan "shameful"... I think you might be getting a bit too carried away there bud... In front? You run it straight into the return... I've tried it with several tube and solid state amps, sounds glorious. I haven't had any problems personally. Created plenty of awesome patches too.... Mics aren't a block - that not how it works lol. If you're running into an amp return you don't use a cab block... and you don't necessarily need the send/return block depending on what you're trying to achieve used in this way... bit more than 4 blocks mate... They can also be combined if you really need. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's the best thing to ever exist, but they're a good unit... you just can't help some people.
@SuicideVan
@SuicideVan 3 жыл бұрын
@@electricmeatpuppet nope, why would I bypass the preamp of my amazing tube amplifiers and use the inferior digital processing of the HX Stomp as a preamp? Why would I do that when they advertise 4CM functionality and even have premade patches for use with 4CM? Why would I lug around a tube amp to gigs only to use the poweramp? HX Stomp has a great UI, it has a pretty color screen and nifty names for it's emulations of classic amps and pedals. It has good, but not great, tones for direct line in recording and performing. Good enough that I can see why a lot of players compromise with it and leave that heavy combo at home. That said, it fails miserably as a pedal platform for use with an actual amplifier, which is one of the advertised functions of the product. I'm glad you like your HX Stomp, I wish I liked mine. Luckily Boss came out with a better product for my needs.

I think so many give up on the gtk too quickly without utilizing everything that is available. Shame, those that do use it will probably lose out on updates and attention from boss as a result. I've owned it for months and still learn new stuff. I also question what folks are using for output and if they see the global eq up, do they change the output setting, etc... if you run through the presets and let it go you've missed 95% of the capability. I don't mean to aim this directly at you btw. You should give it another go, try it through some monitors, different cabs etc. Grab some 3rd party IRs too, so many amazing selections.

No only one delay block has all the choices. There’s only one reverb block. 4 other blocks have to be simple delays. 4 blocks gave to be EQs. And two have to be noise gates… 2 have to be amp sims - so way less flexible than suggested. Also it’s micro usb which often doesn’t work as it can’t be a cable with charging capacity - only data. Shocking lack of updates and NO it doesn’t have all the RV500 nor does it have all the DD500. No where near. But it does sound fabulous,runs off batteries, less amp requirements that competitors. Has clear simple screen.

I replaced my Strymon Iridium with the GT-1000CORE, which was a mistake. The Boss stuff has loads of options and if you spend lots of time it really sounds amazing. But man, it's endlessly uninspiring to fiddle around in thousands of options in the menus. I caught myself spending hours of turning knobs for options that the real amps (marshall plexi for example) don't even have. For example: The GT1000 offers a gain switch option (low, medium high), which a normal plexi doesn't have. So what do I change when I flip that knob?

I have the larger GT-1000 and find it pretty easy to quickly get an inspiring tone if you purposely limit yourself. Just "initialize" patch so everything is off except amp and basic reverb. Select an amp model and adjust gain to taste. Even with everything dead center, things sound pretty good already and the whole process only takes a.minute or so. It just takes a bit of mental fortitude to limit yourself vs something like a Strymon Iridium that is already limited hardware-wise.

I've looked through the manual online and cannot find the answer to my question, so maybe what I'm asking here is not possible. However, I thought I would ask here for anyone that knows the unit well enough to know for sure. I'd like to program one button/switch to activate 2 events at once. The events would be 1) amp channel switch and 2) patch change. Basically all I want to do is switch from a rhythm tone patch to a lead tone patch and have my amp also switch channels when going back and forth. I'm guessing IF this is possible, it would need to be done using 'MEMORY Mode'. Patch +1 (up) would also need to trigger the Amp Control channel switch function, OR could the patch itself execute this when it loads? I'm trying to switch my amp channel AND (Up) +1 User Patch with only ONE action. Then, the same when executing (Down) -1 User Patch with an Amp Channel switch. Thanks in advance to anyone with answers.

Yes that's possible. There is a main assigns for each footswitch (the three on the unit, or you can connect 4 more switch's (like on two fs-7s for example). As well as the main assign, you can assign up to 16 additional functions - so one footswitch press could carry out 17 functions. This can be things like patch changes, loading effects on and off, midi commands, loops 1 and 2, and amp switching etc. It's very versatile!

I've always been a fan of this sort of unit after I'd seen a couple of pit band guitarists using them in theatres. For that sort of app I get it. But - if I wanted a multi-effects board I'd go for the ME-80 which Andertons are doing for £199 right now. Whereas this Core is like £600!? I just use a Maxon EQ, Xotic RC Boost and BB Overdrive, and a Maxon Analogue Delay. So, if you want to appeal to me, Boss, you need to make it clear what I'm missing and what I could do if I changed. I guess it's patches? Oh - and why it's 3x the price of an ME-80. Sorry to be so down - but that's what I'm thinking. Anybody? Thoughts?

It still has that Boss GT-3 from the 90's tone to it. Hard to conceive how a company such as Boss cannot improve the tone of their units to the likes of L6 or Fractal.

Boss make some great pedals. Their all-in-ones are dreadful, and I've owned a few. This is the best of them that I've heard but for 600 quid you could build yourself a great pedalboard, get the Mooer equivalent, a BluGuitar Amp 1/Iridium. Not convinced at all, sorry chaps!

There is no way you could get this much functionality for 600. The blue guitar alone would set you back at least that much.

You're demoing an effects modeller that takes the place of pedals but you've got it loaded up with pedals. My head hurts.

I would probably just use analog drives/wahs and use a modeler for the rest of the effects as these multi-fx units never seem to do od/distortion very well. So, it does make sense that you might want to use pedals as well as one of these, although I probably wouldn't choose this particular unit.

The difference is very much a feel thing. at my local store, we are privilege enough to have Helix + headphones to test out the guitars. But I don't feel quite inspired by the helix stomp and the interface-onboard is not quite friendly to my use. But I have got my GT1000 core in black Friday sales at Andertons and it feels much better, closer to a real amp (**closer, not the same**). It is more dynamic and more reactive to me. I prefer the classic Boss tone too. But it is really subjective and if there's a chance, try either one of them. :)

Great demo but priced way too high. £200 more than a Helix Stomp? Yes, it's more powerful but I think most guitarists wouldn't use the power. They will just look at Helix vs. Boss GT users and follow the musicians they admire.
