Painting looks streaky because you use gouache, not watercolour. It's thicker paint so it makes streaks :) You need to use way more water if you don't want them.

I absolutely loooove my Archer and Olive!! The thickness of the paper is perfect for painting and heavy duty ink. The only thing I've seen that bleeds through are Copic's or really inking fineliners. So amazing.

When I bullet journal I have a year calendar but I don’t use seperate months, it’s all combined and I just alternate highlighting the months in my pastel pens. For example January is highlighted pink, February is highlighted green and March is highlighted blue. All holidays are highlighted neon yellow. It’s very helpful and effective. My future log is normal in that the months are separate months.

You can create a gorgeous varied wash by working wet in wet, coating your entire paper in clean water, and charging in with color in various spots. Then you literally just sit and wait. You can move it alone a little faster by dragging your brush just barely over the water on the surface to mix the paints a little more. You can do multiple layers of this if you feel like it, but I tend to only need to do one. When you watercolor, you don't want to actually touch your brush to the paper. You're coloring the water more or less. If you touch the paper with your brush, you'll rub it to pieces or stain it inconsistently, so as a rule of thumb?? Just don't touch the paper itself with your brush. Only touch the water on the surface. Working wet on dry is sort of the same thing, except you lay down a puddle of water and color and slowly drag it to where you need it to go. Gravity is your friend, so tilting your surface and slowly dragging the puddle dow where you need it to go can give you really nice, consistent washes.
@JournalAway
@JournalAway 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation, I'm sure many people will find this helpful, including myself! Watercolor is such a sensitive and tricky medium but the possibilities are endless so there's something so magical about it. I'm sure to test out the methods you mentioned here ☺️

Yes!! I think some people have too high standards for themselves to create EVERYTHING "out of nowhere" and that sounds like so much unnecessary pressure you don't need to put on yourself and your art. Everything is a copy of something or being inspired by something, either clearly or not so directly and there's nothing wrong with that if you put your own flavors into it. ☺️

Why is this video over? 😭 I just love how organized you are and it's really inspiring, I got better using my bujo since watching your videos. I'm pretty sure I could get my diploma this month just because I wanted to be more productive after watching your routines. So thank you for sharing 🙏 Just kinda wish we would know a little more about you 😳 some tips: try using watercolor when painting with the wet on wet technique (I have the brand white nights and it's really good) For those font types you can buy some stamps, it's really annoying to draw them but they look so good Aaand a secret wish: I would really love a video about your language learning methods, I am a linguist and I study a lot of languages by myself (Finnish is among them so who knows why I write you in English) and I adore hearing other people's methods of language learning. ✌️
@JournalAway
@JournalAway 5 жыл бұрын
You have no idea how happy this comment made me!! ❤️ I'm so happy you could find motivation to improve your productivity, it's the most rewarding feeling to me to hear that these funny videos could have that kind of impact ❤️ I have some watercolors but haven't used them in a while, so maybe it would be interesting to try to use them and also compare to my gouache paints. 😄 Thank you for the recommendation, I'll keep this brand in mind! Aaah yeah I've seen those stamps but for some reason I wanna avoid using stuff like that in my videos as much as possible... I don't want people to feel like they need to buy all kinds of different tools to be able to recreate stuff in my videos, so I just try to fight the urge to buy stamps and stickers. 😂 It would make life easier though. I've been thinking about starting a blog for a long time, which would mainly be around creative topics, like art, designing, probably building creative business online etc., but also little bit more about my life in general. :) I'll let you know when I finally can take those plans further, currently I'm fighting against time because I'm also working and writing my master thesis. 😂 And when it comes to language learning (first of all sooo cool you're studying Finnish!! Siistiä! 😄) it could be a blog topic too for sure. In the meantime I've done few videos about how I studied Japanese on my own on my old channel called Anna L, those videos are OLD and I need to give a huge big fat cringe warning, but the information is still there 🤣 I might have a link there on my channel somewhere. 🤔

Journal Away...any ideas for a spread that I could use for ongoing learning? I'm researching a subject and it's not linear like your Japanese studies page. There are books, podcasts, websites, try it and see and so on...and it develops and unfolds as I move through the research. And suggestions would be so welcome

Hmm, I've seen some spreads that could be helpful for more ongoing projects on student bullet journaling videos. One channel that comes to mind is Caitlin's Corner, she makes a lot of videos about using bullet journal for these purposes! ☺️ I think you could benefit from different lists or task logs, for example "the best references", "research questions", "progress log" or something like that. Also you could try to list different small tasks that could form bigger parts of the process. And how about a time related graph for the time you've used on different activities related to your learning and then you can get better understanding how much time you need to use for different things in the future? ☺️ I hope this was at least little bit helpful! Also good luck to your research! 😄

I've been wondering about the bills. For everything, I have to pay every month like rent I do it by direct debit. It is so easy because I can't really forget. Is that not possible for you?
@Pavlinka__
@Pavlinka__ 4 жыл бұрын
Right, that's what I'm always thinking. If you have regular payments, you make it go automatically. Then again, my mom used to stress about forgetting to add balance to her personal account so that she'd have money to pay the regular bills... she doesn't need to do that anymore because her personal account is getting my income lol but yeah I guess that is a good enough reason

You’re not using watercolour, you’re using gouache! Make sure to read the tubes before buying them 😕 it still looked really nice though
@JournalAway
@JournalAway 5 жыл бұрын
Haha I know they are gouache paints, I always list them as such in the description as well. :) I always try to remember to mention it in the videos as well, but I guess this time I forgot so I'm sorry about that! The reason why I use the term "watercoloring" here is because you can use gouache paints in a very similar way as watercolors, so the outcome would be very similar with either of them. I don't want my viewers to think they need to own gouache paints to do this, watercolors create a similar look used like this. :)

I'm sorry, I don't really understand your question 😅 I use my journal for half a year and then switch to a new one. ☺️ In this video I just showed my beginning setup in this journal, so kinda the "yearly" pages that I'll use for long term stuff and then I will make a separate setup for each month from July to December in this same journal before I switch to a new one. ☺️

Moi! I just discovered your channel, you have such pretty aesthetics!❤ For the Japanese studies, there is an app you may know called 'Obenkyo' that helped me a ton for my N5 exam! I recommend you check it out if you want to, it's quite good for vocabulary and practicing kanji writing 😊 (there's also a grammar section... not sponsored lol)

Moi! 😄 Thank you sooo much! ❤️ Ohh and I haven't heard about this app, I'll definitely check it out! For kanji I use an app called Kanji study, I think it's SO amazing, but there's nothing related to grammar so another app could be good for that purpose. ☺️
