Get the Rennline pedal kit, especially the adjustable throttle pedal. You can adjust it in and out, top and bottom pads separately, and you can add width extensions. Very informative video James - I learn so much with your videos unlike most larger (relatively) car youtubers. It was interesting to know that you can improve the comfort/position with the 918-style bucket seats + useful to know about the benefits of speccing this car with aluminium pedals particularly in wet conditions. I really liked how you described the joys of a manual gearbox in which the driver's engagement with the car is retained even in very pedestrians speeds particularly in the UK. Speaking of great manual cars, you should have a go in a Honda NSX-R and S2000 in your next 'modern classics' episode. I don't work for nor get paid by Torque GT at all but that UK specialist dealership has a plethora of Japanese sportscars in pristine condition and have some quality videos on their youtube channel you can check out, if you are interested. Keep up the great work and it would be lovely to see a POV video on your manual GT3!

I really need to see a very in-depth video of this 991.2 GT3 manual, vs manual 992 GT3. Just hearing how similar or different they drive, the sounds. Congrats! I love the idea of having this be the car you share with your boy. It cannot be understated how much of an impact such memories can have on a kid growing up, I speak from experience. As for the car itself, amazing choice. As good as modern autos and twin clutches are, they tend not to age that well. I remember people arguing that the old Porsche tiptronic was superior to the manual as well. Same with BMW's SMG gearboxes, and many others. I think they are amazing in their time, but possibly not so much as better stuff hits the market. But a fantastic manual gear box, will ALWAYS be a fantastic manual gearbox. I switched to a manual after a few months and it's so much better, more engaging and strangely I don't feel I need to redline it all the time, so it means I drive slower too!

So the elephant in the room..you've opted for a manual GT3, I agree fab spec, with no roll cage (they're ugly as hell) that you want to drive 'to maximum attack & to the edge on many tracks'.. surely the roll cage is protection you absolutely need in those scenarios or Porsche wouldn't even bother to option them! Is there any research on rolled GT3s (maybe from Porsche themselves) where the roll cages makes the difference, or are they (as I very much doubt) purely a racer's cosmetic option that also give a bit more stiffness to the body shell?
@MrJWW5 жыл бұрын
The cage is bolt in - not part of the chassis, doesn’t provide any more structural rigidity and adds 20kg weight. Essential for a track car for safety but this will be tracked on occasion - not all the time.
@kirbsak5 жыл бұрын
@@MrJWW OK so no rigidity lost and weight reduction a positive, but can, as one potential scenario, the roof take the weight of the car in the event of a roll over? Something that can quite easily happen if one is driving 'on the limit' at a track....just got your welfare in mind! I'm find it interesting to better understand why Porsche has so readily spec'd the roll over cage, when its so ugly and impractical..I've always assumed that it was for normal road and 'occasional' track day (what most cars would be used for) safety ..

Congrats!! Great choice. Still loving my 997 GT3 and not getting rid of it any time soon (Never say never). Would love an RS version, but at this time it's not worth the extra money to me. #1 car rule for me is it has to be a manual. PDK or DCT is faster, but rowing the gears and the satisfaction of a perfect heel toe is far more important to me. I get to interact and enjoy the spectacular transmission and be one with the car.

One of the best cars in this world (certainly for me) with the right gearbox. What you're planning with it pretty sums up one of my life goals: getting my dream car and keeping it forever. If you allow me to say this, I think it'd look even better with silver wheels. That'd make the perfect combination imo. Anyways, congrats!

Future travels w/this car is a brilliant concept(so is going manual!) definitely will be watching!!! I have faith you won't pull a Shmee150 & ditch it, you are true driving enthusiast & this car being a racecar for the street is absolute perfection for that experience! Enjoy!

Like your idea of modern classic cars. I must be on the same path. I have an 2017 AM V12SM, 2017 AM GT8 manual and a 2013 AM V12 Roadster which the V12 only came with manual 6 speed. I think these are your modern classics but I do miss having a Porsche so one of these will do. Happy driving.

Gorgeous car, and I absolutely get your points about the extra enjoyment and involvement of driving a manual-equipped car, with a razor-sharp responsive engine, whatever the speed. Every single shift, up or down, demands that you concentrate and execute with precision. Twin-clutch gearboxes are way too easy, and hence rapidly dull. When are you trading in for a GT3 Touring, btw, as then you can enjoy a little more chassis interaction without all the aero-assisted grip of the "ordinary" GT3? Now that IS my perfect car.

I will miss your Miami Blue GT3, but I think you have made a great choice now having a manual with three pedals to play with. I have see a few cars in this sort of chalk colour and its subtle, but not. James I think you are turning into a sentimental young man, but I like your thinking and sharing those experiences with your son.
