Phew, as I have said more than once to my wife, you have to be a wage earner, a lawyer , a financial guy and the mechanic for the house (and not forgetting a computer guy as well). I would not take it personally Toby, you were working on what and where you thought your efforts were best used and served. Hacking is an ugly part of our existence. Sorry to hear about this but your are in good company. Twice I've been through this from the credit card, to my KZbin & EBay accounts, to my IRS and state tax returns, all hacked. The good news, my channel is only for sharing family videos. I've since switch to an Aura Frame for the family to share pictures and short videos.

Sorry to hear scammers hit you - I got hit almost 2 years ago. I had to have bank account locked and set up new one with new checks and changing Soc.Sec. and pension direct deposits.

The worst part of hacks I found were to be the suspicions that beset me after the fact. Always wondering if it was personal or just AI oriented is an unproductive thought process. Good luck pushing on through.

My family bank account was hacked about 2 months ago. We got a phone call from a verified bank number, and it turns out it wasn't actually them. Drained my business, savings, and personal accounts. Then we had a back n' forth with the bank... turned out alright in the end but it was crazy.

Got a phone call from the bank the other day, hung up immediately, it was a very legit call but getting 3 scam calls a day I'm just so used to hanging up to a certain accent, felt sorry for anyone with that ethnicity trying to do business in Australia

I'm glad you're back. I had this happen to me years ago. Just over 10 years ago. My KZbin count and Google account was both hacked and had to start all over again. Now I have one email account for KZbin and my primary email is separate from everything else. I learned that a long time ago and I'm glad that you were able to get everything strained back out

Toby, sorry to hear about the Email problem and the CC hack, That's why I quit having a debit card, I got tired of having to cancel one card and order another and waiting a week or so for the new one, only to have it hacked a month or two later. It makes online purchasing a little harder, not everyone uses PayPal, but I'm dealing with it.

Oh my god how I understand about accounts being hacked. I am still reeling from it. I was so lucky not to have lost a significant amount of cash. So thankful you made it through. There is probably already a browser extension for browsers that does that, I have never looked for it, but it would be interesting to have a tool to easily download all the comments for each video with which you can then create a Q&A file for that video. By sharing it in the cloud as a basic plain text file you could have it accessible and up to date with a simple link in the video description. And I say plain text file because it doesn't require any additional programs to view it and it's easy to update. Because it's not only if you need to "reset" your channel for some reason, when someone clears their KZbin history all their comments are deleted along with any replies.

Good advice about separating your various internet accounts. On a different topic - have you ever had a diesel motor runaway? Is it likely on a tractor or construction equipment? What equipment do you have to suppress the oxygen intake before the engine destroys itself?

Good catch on finding out sooner than later. Company I worked for had several issues with on line security at start up. Very expensive to keep up security, and many measures were taken to keep it that way.

I changed my channel to a brand acount a few months ago as it belonged to my wife, i set up up another acount to have a practice run at switching it, its not very clear on witch acount is replacing witch.

Toby, I have a question about the ads. I think that you mentioned that clicking on an ad and buying from them really helps. But is that just for the item advertised, or does it apply to buying anything on that site? I have been looking at Flir, phone mounted thermal cameras, and I have one picked out, so I guess I just hope that an ad pops up on a video of yours and buy it at that time?

In a nutshell, the process involved creating a new blank brand account with the same channel name as the old account, and then you overlay the old channel over the new blank one. That means the old channel is technically gone, replaced by the new one that now just contains all of the videos and subscribers, but all of the more personal aspects of the old one went away with it, like the comments I made and likes I left.

I got hacked through my email account and then they got in my KZbin account that was a horrible experience and I was so lucky to get it back there for awhile it wasn't looking good but through Twitter I was able to contact Google and get help and then I got a form to fill out and was able to get back in!!!!

It's really a shame that KZbin hasn't put some effort into facilitating creators' ability to recover from hacks. One question: Do you know how you were hacked...like, how the hackers figured out your password (or whatever) to get into your email account?

I don’t think they gained access into the account, but they did on my credit card. The majority of the e-mail problems were spam and notices that I had signed up for hundreds of sites and applied for things I had never heard of. I started shutting things down immediately and didn’t leave anything open for further tampering.

Email re-organisation, etc come another demonstration that - to build a system of energy (a restored tractor, say) - an unfathomably great deal of unquantifiable energy will be expended in the process. one would assume a company thats basicly build on maintaining a big database would be capable of making such transitions in a way to retain old data... well.. seems like multi billion dollar companies are just as clueless as mom and pop shops in the end. Anyways, glad you had no id theft or any other fraud originating from that theft, lets hope it stays that way too.

I agree, in this case what occurs when a personal account is changed to a brand account is you create a second “new” brand channel that has the same name as the “old” channel. You then move the old channel onto the new one, which transfers all of the existing content and subs but now technically the “old” channel is gone, so the prior user’s personal actions like comments or likes go away, but the intellectual property like videos remain. It’s confusing and overly complicated, but that’s basically what happened.
