I recently picked up this set at Lowe's for $119. I have had the 216 piece for a while now and love it. It seems like they discontinued the 216 piece for this new 230 piece Versastack tool set. I still think this is a great kit for the money if you are looking for a mobile set up.

I just bought the 216 piece set for use at work. (I could have let the company purchase my tools, but if I decide to leave the company I'm taking my tools with me, hence I bought my own.) I hope I made a good purchase. It seems pretty complete, and the price was decent.

I might be the only one that actually likes the 230 set. The box looks like it will last longer, i use allens all the time, and there is more room in the drawers for me to add items that might be unique to my job. I didn't mind if the 3/8 drive doesn't have smaller bits, I'd just move to the 1/4 drawer. Both would work for me. I wish one had an empty drawer at the bottom where i can keep a meter and specialty tools. Thank you so much for the review.

I think 3/8 is used more than 1/4 imo and this is the reason it is on top on the old one. I took the old version home today, same price as the new one but the more sockets on the old one sold me. I have packout sets and this being much smaller in size than the new version was great too.

Yeah I need a good road side set. I have so many sockets and wrenches at home as is. I bought a craftsman set, god nearly 20 years ago... I don't remember the size... 320 piece? Something like that. Since then I ended up buying a huge Milwaukee workbench (11 drawer) and huge Husky tool chest (23 drawer) that I keep my stuff in. I bought the Klutch 3/8 and 1/2 drive big impact socket set too. I keep my craftsman sockets in the original plastic organizers but just put them in my Milwaukee box. Anyway, rant over. Now I just need a good but cheap set to bring with me for if my car breaks down on the side of the road jobs of sockets and wrenches.

What kind of plastic thats on the red drawers, is it that cheap plastic that can shatter when dropped or the plastic thats in the non breakable combs that have flexibility; Thanks for the presentation.

I’d say they removed the smaller 1/2 drive sockets because that’s a good way to snap a bolt. If the 3/8 drive won’t do it it’s time for penetrating oil, not a bigger ratchet. Similar idea for the 9/16th on the 1/4 drive, too small for a bolt that size. I agree that the Allen wrenches and driver bits are filler though.

What we all really wanna see: 262 pc Versastack vs 216 pc. Can you make that happen? Seriously though, good video. It was nice to see a detailed look at the new 230 pc, gotta say I’m disappointed in it. Fingers are now crossed for the 262 pc to turn it around for us.

Not even close. Lemme rephrase it. ‘What I really wanna see is a review on the 262 pc Versastack kit’ I gotta say though, I personally value the upgraded box at around $60 just on its own. Yes, I’m aware they make it for less than that. That’s just the ballpark amount it’s worth to me personally to be able to ACTUALLY use it with other Versastack boxes.

Ya the 262 piece is 149.99, I replaced my old 230 piece with the new 262 piece.. not sure how I feel yet on it. As there are lots of missing sockets, I tend to use 2 rachets for a nut and bolt. And in the new set unfortunately most the socket loss is in the doubles in different size rachets. 😢 more fluff. I miss the days when craftsman was almost all sockets. I remember the 450 piece portable days. Now to get a set like that it's over priced. Due to not currently made. 🙃 Lowes should definitely do something about that!

My first thought was "oh, more useless screwdriver bits". The reality turned out to be "Oh, more useless allen keys and screwdriver bits." What I wouldn't do for a box that had 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" with no-skip shallow and deep in metric. I never really use SAE anymore, so that's just wasted weight for a mobile toolkit.

Me personally I would prefer the 216 piece instead to much unnecessary stuff in the 230 piece and the main reason why I would be buying the 216 piece is because of the sockets not the hex keys and screwdrivers plus it looks like the 230 piece hardly had any extensions.

The upgrades to the box are definitely nice but the addition of filler bs along with the subtraction of the sockets far outweighs any value gained imo.

i love my old 216 piece set its served me well,, buut that box on the new one looks alot better,, if you were able to toss the trays from the old hox into that new box, id ditch the entire new set, but keep the new box lolll... id still keep the old box too, but just gut out the newer sets' drawers all flat n open to just make it a 3 drawer box for whatever lol

that 1/2" drawer on the new box is a fucking joke haaaaaa n fyi, i hate the layout of the og box too,, but they said they put the 3/8 on top for 2 reasons;; thats the most versatile and often used size, and they wanted to spread the weight a bit cuz if they were i order, the 3/8 n 1/2 would just both weigh down too much and break n bend and warp the case too much.. the 1/4" is used as a buffer almost to avoid the weight all down on the bottom... i get that but yeah its so confusing i thought mine just had the stickers mixed up, but then opened the drawers up n seen the tools were labeled correctly... was like tf is this???..... but now im like gomme my dyslexic 216 set, at least it has tools hahahaaa

i dont get any of these tool companies, their is no point buying a box if your going to skip sizes. no 11mm. yeah no 18mm or 20 mm either. and i dont remember if its 7/8 or 15/16ths but it doesnt really matter. if you buy a box and they skip a size and you buy that size, where are you going to put it....idk about you but i would be more inclined to buy a no skip box of sae ,metric standard and deep, with 2 empty trays i can fill myself than to get 75 pieces of screwdriver heads.

Man that new craftsman tool box set is crap, to many spaces on each drawer whicj they could have add more sockets. Your better of going for a Dewalt 204pc mechanic tool set. Its build like a suit case, not like that bulky tool boxs from Craftsman's.
