Believe it or not, I've been using the XPS 13 2 in 1 to edit a full-length film in DaVinci Resolve, and so far it's been pretty flawless. I haven't gotten to the color grading part of my process yet, and I'm assuming it's going to struggle, and so I plan on adding an external GPU to one of the Thunderbolt ports. Have you done anything like that? Have any recommendations for a breakout box that the XPS 13 is compatible with? I'm curious. Thanks for the great review. The XPS 13 7390 is definitely the best laptop I have ever owned for the price. I have the i7, 16GB of RAM, and I'm using a glyph atom 1tb external SSD. Amazing performance thus far. I do have two issues with this laptop. One is that the fingerprint scanner is completely unreliable, so I don't even try to use it anymore. The other thing I noticed is that every so often I have to restart the computer because when I first Power It Up, the touch screen doesn't work. As soon as I restart, everything is fine, and so that's a little annoying, but otherwise, it's been a great experience working with this machine.

Also for some reason at the time of ordering there was only the black interior, would have preferred the all white. Small things I know but when you're spending £1.5k+ the small details should matter. Still I'm very happy with the system, I use it primarily for studies, it's small, lightweight and premium build quality are all huge pluses and when sitting next to others the brightness and quality of the screen is amazing.

I have had this product for three weeks and I have MAJOR issues with it (not to mention with Dell's terrible support). I am so frustrated that I am taking the time to post this on the main online reviews. Don't be surprised if you read this on several channels, this is not scam but my actual personal experience. If you find this useful or want to share your dissappointment as well or vote me up, feel free ! The main issue with this laptop is the auto adaptative brightness of the display that cannot be disabled (even though there is a toggle button in the Intel app, but it seems to do nothing). Basically the display will dim or brighten its backlighting depending on what you are displaying. That means if you are in photoshop, and you display a bright picture, the screen will crank backlighing up. Now if you display a dark picture, the backlighting will go way down and the whole display becomes unreadable. Same with movies : when there is bright scene, the backlight will slowly go up (this can take a few seconds). And a dark scene will become difficult to see. This is obviously intended to save battery but it makes for a terrible user experience. And there is no easy way, when editing pictures, to tell if the picture really is too dark or if it's just the brightness of the display that's playing tricks. Also in some situations, the display looks incredibly dim even at 100%. 500 nits... but not in every situation. I also have other concerns with this laptop : - the fingerprint scanners is not reliable, and it's faster and more reliable to just type the damn password. - the fans kick in too easily to my taste, even with "silent mode" enabled. - there is a lot of compatibility issues with third party hardware : hdmi TVs would not work. The mice cursor would dissapear after sleep if I plug an adapter. The screen also used to be messed up on previous driver. - coil wine noise is somehow recorded through the audio chip when I record a tutorial with screen sharing. I do this for professional needs, and the video recordings sound terrible because of this. - the list goes on... For all these reasons I pleaded with DELL for a return and refund, day after I first unpacked. DELL's support sent me back and forth between support and aftersales. I am transfered without warning, the line gets cut off. Honestly, I called over a dozen times. And they never get back to me to keep me posted. Because this is a business purchase, it does not look as though they are going to comply with my request, dispite the many issues and concerns I have. If anyone from DELL reads this and can pull some strings, it would be much appreciated.

Ordered the XPS 13 (7390) two weeks ago and found out yesterday the order was cancelled because of video card component shortage so naturally I was pretty annoyed. But then I realized the new 2-in-1 has so many little upgrades they’ve fit in there that I’m glad my original purchase didn’t go through. Gonna buy the i7 16gb 256ssd variant, and will probably pick up that little pen as well. It apparently attacks magnetically to the 2-in-1.
@emmgeevideo5 жыл бұрын
I’ve had my 4K 16 GB i7 2 in 1 for two weeks. I really love it. But... Battery life is pretty dismal. I bought it sight unseen from Dell’s web site. I wish I had taken a look at the HD version. I get about 4 hours with battery saver on and about 6 hours in airplane mode..not a killer but enough to piss me off watching the meter drop perceptibly as I use it. You didn’t mention the trackpad. It is fantastic. I’ve had a couple of MacBook Airs and a couple of Pros. This trackpad is every bit as good as Apple IMHO. I like the keyboard, although the one on the Dell Latitude I just gave up was better. The roomy keyboard is a bit of a myth. The distance between key centers (letters and numbers) is exactly the same as my Logitech keyboard. The keys on the outside of the keyboard are wider. So if you need wider shift keys you’re in luck. Probably the arrow keys are wider. I don’t think the wider keyboard is really a meaningful feature. The laptop is faster than blazes and the screen is beautiful. I’m glad I got it.

It's "OK", but I need a NumPad and a mouse for AutoCad, video editing, Adobe editing, etc. A full size laptop with a bigger screen and bigger battery power. The touchscreen is useless, because I have one and it it just gets in the way and if I bump it (with my knuckles), it ruins my work sometimes. It uses resources too, so I just disable it. I don't like fingering my laptop. I like to upgrade, or replace the battery or memory. No access to that. Thinner is not always better, I have cracked a screen already, by merely turning the laptop to let other people see the screen.

To get a 1 TB SSD you have to opt for the UHD display and 32 GB RAM! I want the 1 TB as the SSD is soldered on but not sure the upgrade to UHD from FHD is worth it or needed. Any thoughts on the benefits of UHD screen when compared to the FHD screen? To do so puts you in the $2500 range Yikes. Thanks Updated: 12-12-2019. I ordered the spec system referenced above from the Dell Outlet at a substantial savings but was disappointed. The 4K screen kept flickering and during HD streaming color banding was crazy bad! I testing the same feed over WiFi on my phone, tablet, and Samsung MSI GS65 and the color banding was not present. The fingerprint reader is a waste and rarely works! I reset three times and took my time using it but 9 out of 10 times I had to use my PIN. The keyboard just streaming and doing productivity work got to HOT to type on comfortably? Even after changing the Thermal settings from Ultra Performance (How it Came) to Balanced it was still too HOT. Dell also sent me the White Keypad version by mistake. You cannot see the Key using the backlighting! They are easier to see with the lighting off. I wanted the Black Keypad for this reason. Had to completely remove the Killer Apps which is needed for all Dell / Alienware systems that have Killer internet cards. Once you remove all the Killer suite software and only install the drivers the network works much better. I have had to do this for every Dell / Alienware system for the past year and half?? Really. When you call tech support they know all about it and have you do the same thing. The SSD performance was subpar and you are stuck with it because it is soldered on. For this level of system Dell should use a better performing SSD. I was not able to tell the difference between the 1080P and 4K UHD screen. In fact the 4K screen was washed out and as I working mostly with 1080P media and items the system had to convert it to 1080P which I think is worse than staying with a native 1080P screen option. The keypad, Hum sometimes it felt good and then it as I picked up my typing pace I could not continue without to many mistakes. For me the key feedback and travel were not there. It is possible you could get used to it but the layout is good. The touchpad is great. It is possible the Outlet system I received continued to have issues Dell did not catch before releasing it for resale. Based I the system I had I would not recommend the 4K screen. It does have HDR but it did not translate to better picture quality on the system I had. I did have the 512GB - FHD screen model but wanted more SSD space and had both the FHD and UHD models to check out. Surprisingly the FHD (1080P) looked much better and did not have the color banding present on the 4K model. Still looking for a good 2-in-1. Just in case I had an bad Dell Outlet system I ordered a new 4K, 1TB, 32MB system. Well it had the same issues as listed above. I did determine that enabling HDR made a big difference in the stream video quality but not for the better. In fact it made the screen much darker and introduced the color banding making everything unwatchable! With it off the stream was better but not even close to how it looks on a phone or tablet! The battery life was 4 hours just sitting there with just popping back and forth between the web and doing updates! The hit to the battery life is not worth the 4K; which doesn't seem to be an upgrade from the 1080P.

Tor Guy I don’t think the thinness has anything to do with their decision to soldered the ssd. Probably some suit’s idea to follow in Apple’s footstep. The Inspiron and latitude line can have their ssd swapped. For myself, I really wanted 32gb ram in a compact chassis.
@lunariz975 жыл бұрын
Simple, don't buy thin laptop. Not all laptop are thin. Still plenty of laptops are thick and have user-replaceable components. If you don't like the direction of XPS lineup, then you're not part of the market for that product. Just because you are now not included in the targeted market, doesn't mean they should not go down that direction. Stop being toxic. Most people uses web-based streaming and services on laptops anyway. People just don't fill up the storage on laptops as they would in the past. Why bother upgrading SSD if you're not filling up the existing storage in the first place. Again, if you want user-upgradeable products, search somewhere else. The market has plenty of choices anyways.
