Purchased the C940 15 FHD 9th Gen i7, 16 GB, 512 SSD, GeForce 1650 MaxQ 4 GB and after using it for nearly a month I can say that I’ve had zero issues with it. It’s faster than my desktop, boots in under 10 seconds, fingerprint sensor works great and sounds freaking amazing. I’m able to play Civ 5, Total War Napoleon, BSG Deadlock, Homeworld 2 Remastered and Stellaris all at max settings at 1080p. I personally think 4k on such a small screen is both unnecessary and comes with a host of issues. Also the pen is housed and charged within the chassis, meaning it will always be available when I need it as opposed to searching around for it. The unit is very sturdy and has zero flex on the keyboard face which I hate. Keyboard is backlit. All in all I’m very impressed with the performance as well as the looks. About the only downside I see is the soldered ram which doesn’t bother me because by the time 16 gigs is insufficient I will be replacing the entire machine anyway. Paid $1,349 plus tax at Best Buy just before Christmas. Hope this helps anyone interested in this machine.

@omegamalkior18745 жыл бұрын
You don't really need 16:10 that much on the c940 since among the competition, 16:9 on it's 14 inch screen is just as tall as the 16:10 on the XPS 13.3 (since the screen sizes are balanced out to match true 16 by 9 ratio)
@Androcentus4 жыл бұрын
Same here, the only thing the yoga is missing is the 13in form factor to make it more portable. Initially I wanted the dell but read horrible reviews on it.
@omegamalkior18744 жыл бұрын
C H I'm really glad they went with 14 instead of 13 inch tbh. 13 is just too small of a screen overall. The Yoga is actually just as portable as the Spectre. It weighs the same as the new Spectre and that 0.7 inch extra (Spectre is 13.3) really doesn't diminish portability at all.

Haven't seen the video yet but did you see the c940 got a massive BIOS update which increased battery life by about 1:30 hours more? (4K model on my end, now getting 8 hours of battery) That and you can now lower the brightness by a lot at lowest setting. Edit: Saw it and not sure if you got the update or not (released on Jan 20) but since you're reviewing FHD maybe it doesn't affect the model that much compared to UHD. Something to mention that I didn't see in the video: Windows Hello integration, think you didn't mention that the Yoga (and I think XPS?) don't have Windows Hello IR and only have fingerprint. And not too sure if you mentioned that the HP Dragonfly is the only of the bunch in which it does NOT have Iris Plus Graphics (has UHD, which for light gamers it's not the best option). And the screen size not sure if you mentioned aspect ratio (SL3 3:2 13.5 inch, Yoga 16:9 14 inch, XPS 16:10 13.3 inch, HP 16:9 13.3 inch), and last but not least the weight (HP Dragonfly only weighs around 2.2 lb while Spectre/Yoga/XPS are at the 3 lb mark). Otherwise apart from these videos, pretty well made!

@@ABC1245678910 oh my b, thanks for bringing it up. Have used Yoga X1, Surface Laptop 3, Spectre x360 (2020) and now using HP Envy 13T. Here are my thoughts: Loved them all for different reasons but as long as heating issues are concerned - HP is the worst choice. It can actually burn your lap to an extent that you wanna put it on the table. However, I loved the keyboard , build quality, performance and design. Lenovo X1 almost doesn't heat at all but I didn't like the bezels on its' display. Looks very outdated. It doesn't give you premium feeling like the others in this list do. Sheer business laptop. Surface Laptop 3 - incredibly fast startup time. Lovely design, keyboard and overall build quality. Very premium feeling. Only downside is that it is clamshell and not a 2 in 1 and the bezels on the display are just unforgivable. Really curious about Dell XPS 13 (2020) as they are out of stock everywhere and couldn't get a chance to test them.

Great comparison. I also tested almost all of those laptops. Sent the HP back due to its OLED (4K) issues (dark stripes) and I didn't like it ergonomically. I currently also have the Microsoft L3 here for testing. I totally understand why you bought it - The Keyboard/Trackpad combination is awesome and it's very responsive and has good battery life. Also great design. As you already mentioned the screen isn't perfect (colors a little bit washed-out (in comparison to the others), a lot of reflections and backlight bleeding.) The Lenovo X1 Yoga would be another contender. I already tested the 4K model. It's really great (The sound is just awesome on that one, great Keyboard and Trackpad. Also good screen, tons of ports, integrated pen....). However the battery life was really disappointing (never more than 4h with my "normal" usage, which was worse than with all other ultrabooks). I was going to get Spectre but it seems that majority of those who got it have either problem with touchpad or with annoying popping noise. Some of them had to return it twice to have it fixed. TheDigitalDigest is one of them. Moreover in Europe they use cheap H10 (QLC) chips in all variants except 2TB. Therefore there is Intel Optane memory. They try to tell you that Intel Optane memory is benefit, but true is that its there because slow QLC chips are rarely used alone in these days. Spectre owners already search for fast TLC SSDs on reddit. Pretty sad. Otherwise it is beautiful device. I go for C940- best build quality and audio, fastest SSD, slot for pen. Not as good battery life as HP but 10 hours with FHD is more than enough for me. Thanks for review!!

Hi Andrew, I'm a little late to the comments, but am just in the market for a new ultrabook and your brilliant video (this one and the specific reviews too) have been great. I prefer smaller more portable, and the tablets of 2 in 1s makes them a good option. If money was no object then I would probably by the spectre x360, but I have found better prices for an i5 hp elite dragonfly (16GB RAM and FHD screen) and a Dell XPS 13 7390 2-in-1 (i7-1065G7, with either 16GB or 32GB with UHD+ screen - might be prepared to pay more for the extra RAM version, but the 16Gb is almost the same price as the dragonfly). I will be using for both work and home, with the most powerful workflows being with very large Excel files which run macros and simulations using Excel directly or 3rd party plugins. Which do you recommend?

I almost purchased the 4K i5 8gig spectre recently at Best Buy for 999. I hesitated because it seemed fragile. Do you feel that it's durable? I had just returned the Surface Pro 7 i5 8 gig because I got severe eyestrain from reading on it, possibly update related. I later noticed that the ribbon on MS word for instance looks nearly impossible to read for instance in the paragraph section on all PC laptops now. Contrast for fonts was poor on the surface pro 7 but I still wonder if it could have been improved by an expert. I didn''t find an expert at Best Buy or Microsoft. Recently read that blurry font on Windows 10 can be addressed in the registry. Is that right? Recently read about the Lenovo Yoga. Nice to know that it uses Wacom tech for the pen. How does the 4K display on the Lenovo compare to the 4K display on the Spectre? I'm not a fan of the FHD display on the Yoga. I'm most interested in being able to read without eye strain. It's about contrast more than type size, As I can read all day on a small old iPad. But at this price, I want to get the best color accuracy I can. Which of these provides that? Did you buy the Spectre for yourself? Did you get the AMOLED or the 4K? And, is the AMOLED more fragile? Is the AMOLED better for reading without eye strain than the 4K? Is there an anti-glare screen protector that I can easily pop on & take off depending on the setting that doesn't use glue? What protective case do you recommend for the Spectre? Do you foresee Surface Pro 8 having a larger screen or 4K? THANKS!!!

Hello Andrew, Just watched your comparison video, kind of liked it but have a big question, I have been using HP Spectre x360 for last 3 years (2017) and to be honest when I bought everyone was promoting the battery life as an amazing feature etc... I am always on battery saver mode meaning the battery life is very important for me as I travel a lot. Over the years I never got more than 5/6 hours, they were promising to me 10 hours at that time easily. So i would like to know how did you test your computers or in general if you have some deep report about testing them. I use the laptop mainly for productivity work (visual studio, typing codes, browsing, handling social media, youtubing, video viewing/editing, office work, presentations ) so can you somehow prove that new Spectre x360 can really last 12 hours as you say, if yes how ? thank you

Hi, I do a continuous web surfing test that is proprietary but I can tell you it is very accurate. Most people don't realize that depending on what you do with the laptop has a distinct effect on battery life hence different results. The battery results you see on my channel are exact results of my web surfing test at 150 nits over WiFi.

I'm looking for a lightweight & powerful media consumption device on which I could do some coding as well. Which one among Surface laptop 3, Yoga c940, Xps 13, Spectre x360 is the way to go ?

BTW, I agree with the Dell MagLev keyboard. It makes my hands tired. I with I knew that the XPS 13 standard would be a near clone of the 2-in-1 except it has the better keyboard, I would have waited for it.

I would like to know to what extent is gaming possible on the spectre x360, is light gaming possible? Can it handle heavy gaming perhaps? Great video helped a lot.
@andrewmarcdavid4 жыл бұрын
Light gaming is possible. Older titles if you lower settings. No AAA titles on highest settings. See my full review.
@su6oi4 жыл бұрын
if you want light gaming you can go with a fully spec out Lenovo with a 1650, but at that price you can get a razr laptop

How can performance be similar across all 4? That is simply not true. One is 8th gen without Iris plus, and the Spectre has well documented throttling issues. This isn't even an actual review.

I shopped the HP Spectre and MacBook Air on black Friday . Thanks to your reviews and stopping and thinking about how I use a home computer I bought a Surface Pro 7 and am very happy with the tablet form factor, yet docked it's a full PC. Amongst those in the video I would get a lower spec of the XPS 13. For the 2 in 1.

No touchscreen, no pen support which were part of the criteria.

Hi, Andrew. Really great smack-down. I do agree with you overall assessment and the overall winner of this category. I do feel that the battery life of the HPs is simply stellar. I am curious as to whether the same results would be consistent with the 15" versions of these machines (where applicable), particularly the ones with the H processor and GTX graphics options. I'd love to see that comparison, especially for the 2020 refreshes once they are available. Keep up the exceptional work, AMD!

I can't decide betwen c940 and Spectre x360. Help me please. For video editing and everyday use., 😭

I bought both and compared side by side for 10 days before deciding on the C940. I'm not a tech nerd at all, but overall it was much better. The build/aluminum is sleek and feels super fancy compared to the spectre

Hello Andrew, random question but what colour do you prefer for the spectre, Dark Ash Sliver, Poseidon Blue or Natural Sliver??
@andrewmarcdavid5 жыл бұрын
Natural Silver to me is the best and shows the least amount of fingerprints.

Andrew many thanks to you for this video it is really very helpful to make the difference between the multiple choices, i believe if we are interested with a better display Quality Elite Dragonfly and Spectre will be the best choices. make us a review for ASUS Zenbook 15 . Best luck
