Cool idea. I would recommend using glue and doing the design then laying the disc in a dye bed. I think I will try it this weekend.

Does there need to be a hole in the top so air can smoothly escape? Smaller hole thinner dye with an extra air hole could do

Yeah i tried unscrewing the cap which helped. Will definitely have to give this another try!

the string needs to be super short so you can see the effect on a disc too

I would try doing the spiral on the dye bed and then add the disc

The cup was the right way to go but yeah thicker with lotion. Pendulum painting needs an open top and the thickness helps with flow too not just sticking to the disc.

Smaller string, 2 colors, rubber band to make it spin

Dude. It's dye, not paint. And it'll take between 2 and 24 hours to actually dye the disc.

I think maybe using some shaving cream to prep the disc before hand to help the dye stick might help make the dots more distinguishable

Love this idea! I wonder if an inverted dyeing technique might work better; doing the drip application in glue, then applying that to a dye bed so the pattern is the only thing not being dyed… I’m pretty new to the dyeing world, so I might be entirely off base 🤷🏻

That's what I have tried. Still looking for better results than what I have had before posting. But I have made 5 attempts so far. Been trying this method for about 3 months now.

Your dripping has to be thinner and more uniformly constant, hanging from a longer string. Lots of testing over just cardboard. Nail the dripping and cardboard test, then add disc.

Im just before you puncture the hole and I would bet everything its going to be terrible. The hole needs be straight and clean, the string should have been like maybe 1 foot long. Im confused how you think this would work lol

Should have practiced over cardboard before doing the disc.

make sure your dye is nonpolar. It looked like you were using a water based dye. That wont work.
