I bought faux walnuts from Amazon and “gilded” them with metallic gold paint and added them to velvet ribbon for hangers. I also bought battery operated taper candles with clips and added them to my tree. Along with dried oranges, star anise and cranberry garland, sprigs of dried babies breathe placed randomly throughout the tree. Pinecones painted with gold edges, berry wrapped cinnamon and a gold bead garland. Now I will add the gingerbread that you suggested! This has been the most fun and most beautiful tree I’ve ever had. And it’s been a family effort as most of these were diy. I love traditional so deeply. I have little red cardinals on clips from previous years I’m considering adding, but have not made up my mind yet.

Dollar store cinnamon and applesauce makes yummy smelling dough for ornaments as well. Mine were cinnamon scented for years. The lights on the tree help warm them a tiny bit and throw the fragrance.

As an abstract artist, I'm usually over-the-top jewel tones for Christmas, but this year I found myself drawn to your nature approach with draping cedar picks, cinnamon stick candles, and pine impression stars this year. I liked the gold paint on the stars, but when making them, I would apply the gold paint and then gently wipe it off the top surface leaving the gold as an accent in the crevice impression for an understated look, AND maybe top with a little white glitter "snow" to make the star twinkle on the lit tree. Also, I would include lavender sprigs and wreaths for the Victorian look. I hope you have a simply lovely Holiday season. Enjoyed the video!

The muppet’s Christmas Carol is my dad’s favorite. I grew up watching it every year and even as an adult, married with kids, I still watch it with my dad every year. My dad had a heart transplant two weeks ago and I had the idea to decorate his room for Christmas for his return home next week. I watched your video for inspiration and the muppet reference hit home 😅

We each write our favorite memory or an achievement from the year on a blank ornament. Then we can go back and relive those memories every year when we decorate the tree. It's my favorite tradition.

I started fresh with Christmas tree decorations last year. I grew up with a very eclectic tree (a few ball ornaments, but mainly homemade or gifted ornaments from friends & family), so I wanted to do something between that and a Dickens style: large jingle bells and velvet bows, mixed with gifts from 2 ornament exchanges and souvenir ornaments from special trips (my favorite was a stuffed "Buc-ee" ornament from my first stop at that massive gas station during a road trip 😄)! One thing I miss from childhood is Christmas fun in the kitchen, but I live alone with a tiny kitchen.... But I have a big crafting area, so this year I want to find the modeling clays you used and make those adorable ornaments!! I never knew how easy it is to dry oranges- if I can find them very soon, their color would make them the perfect fall-into-winter crossover additions on tables and mantles. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas, enthusiasm, and beautiful personality with all of us-- I pray you have a blessed day! 😊🥰🌻🎄

Thanks for the craftsy membership. MY favorite thing about your videos is when you tell everyone that they are enough. Your Christmas decor is very classy. That's coming from a foral designer of 25 years.. You could also add fresh cypress to your garlands and/or wreaths.

I love these ornaments! My store didn’t have the brown clay… but I got some of the “clay” model fluff from the toy section (the one with Elmo on the package). I got red, yellow, and 2 green (no white at my store), mixed them together and got the perfect brown! It was sooooo sticky!!! And didn’t cut cleanly, my husband suggested putting it in the fridge before cutting. It worked!! After rolling it between wax paper I put it in the fridge for just a few minutes and it cut so much better! I also cut it on a dollar tree pizza pan which was better than the wax paper on the kitchen table. I was surprised as they dry they feel just like craft foam! Which makes so much sense 😅 (I just use my husbands google/youtube account 😋 just makes it easier)

Muppet Christmas Carol is awesome! We love it so much, too. Last year the Oregon Symphony played the instrumental soundtrack to the show while we watched the movie on a gigantic screen. Dickensian/Victorian Christmases were all about home made crafting and making do with whatever you have. Christmas crackers were made for the tree or table. Cards were already mass produced by this time too. Adding popcorn or dried fruit to the tree is a possibility and they used to add small candles to the tree; although many people lost homes because of this. If you find and gather pine cones outdoors or twigs; these can be used and reused as crafts for next year. The season was also about giving to those less fortunate and in London at the time; people were given coins or a day off work….which in a time when people would literally work themselves to death; it was a god send.
