4K can be overkill for some but the Mavic Air alllow to shoot at 1080p/120fps... That's something the Spark cant do. For me, just for that, i prefer the Air. Also the Air have 3 axis gimbals and the Spark have a 2 axis gimbal.

I've had the spark for a few months now and whenever I show people some of the content I've created, short films, vlogs, they are always amazed that the little spark was able to capture such crisp shots. It's about the lighting and ND filters. Great video Chris, the spark is still good for now!

As someone with both, I will definitely keep both and use them both, but even in this video, you can see a huge difference between 1080p and 4k (or even 2.7). Is it worth the extra money? That's an individual decision.

What about range? How far can you fly out the spark in comparison to the mavic air?

I don't know exact figures as I don't think the figures DJI claim on any of their drones are very accurate in the real world. However the Mavic Air is slightly further.

Filming in 4K gives you options in post that you don't have with the Spark. You can crop down to a quarter of the screen and still be at 1080.

Interesting and honest compare. One final reason to get a Spark is you can buy it now and then wait for the Mavic Pro II whenever it comes out. It would be sad to spend the higher coin on an an Air, only to find out you should have waited.

I have a mavic air and you said you can not take off/land a mavic air in your hand. I take off and land from my hand all the time with my Mavic air. I rarely take off with it sitting on the ground since it sits so close to the ground. Great video.

Does the video not help you decide? Depends on your financial circumstances I guess. The Spark is a fantastic drone at a really good price and definitely suitable for making KZbin videos. The Mavic Air does have some added features. It compacts down to a nice size for example. Just depends whether or not you think those added features justify the higher price for your needs

At the end of the day it's your decision but do consider the cost of replacing it too because most people who get a drone do end up crashing it at some point...

Yeah the flight time is slightly higher with the Mavic Air but it's not massively so. Around 4 minutes I believe

I bought the Mavic Air quad March 12,2018. maiden flight is this Sunday, weather permitting. I've been watching tons of videos to become familiar with this beauty, it is NOW time to put it up in the air. I am so excited to have this drone and anxious to see how it performs.

I've bought a spark+remote at 399USD for the exact reasons you've pointed out. One point to add.... the cost of ownership will probably get down to about 200 bucks 6 months from now if there is a price drop on the Mavic Air from 799 to 599, and I change my mind to upgrade at that time.

I'm not saying people shouldn't get the Mavic Air or other drones, just that it's a good idea to think about what you actually need and get the one that's right for you.

Arga Firmansyah I found the fly more package on amazon the other day for $466.00. I only searched for comparison, because a coworker is selling me his fly more spark with the controller. I’m getting it for $500. I’ll pay the difference for the ability to use it first and him to finance it.

I have my spark since 1 year now too. The image quality is great, for a Drone of it size. The only thing that argues me a bit is the range. Especially when you fly in a city, where a lot of signal interferences are happening, even with the controller the max distance to fly could be sometimes only 70 to 100 m. This would maybe the only reason for me, why to change to a bigger Drone like the Mavic or Mavic Air.

Finally a sobering drone comparison. Sure, if money didn't matter then Air it is, but money is in short supply for most of us, and maybe using some of the extra $ on ND filters, an external microphone or something like that will give a bigger bang for the buck for most recreational KZbinrs. And with the Spark being 'cheap' I dare flying it in situations where I maybe wouldn't if the drone was double the price. DJI is releasing new drones with increadible features at a fast pace, so maybe sticking with the Spark for a year or two may not be such a bad idea. Instead of upgrading now I'm going to learn how to squeeze every drop of juice out of the drone I have.

Bought it from DJI, yes as standard DJI are now selling it with the controller as well. After releasing the Air I guess it makes sense.

You can pick from any color on Amazon. Includes controller for $399. A few other sites sell it with controller for $399. That's the cheapest I found it.

shooting 4K means you can crop/zoom-in. Just gives you way more options

I had the spark until I had gimble problems then I went to best buy to get a new spark but I got the mavic air instead. The air is a much better drone. The best thing I like about the air over the spark is that you can adjust the exp in the menu so that it makes the sticks less sensitive which makes it easier to fly the spark on the other hand the esp settings or fixed and it is to sensitive
