when Epiphone was its own company and competing with Gibson, their scale was always 25.5" so I wouldn't call it a Fender scale, as Fender didn't exist when Epiphone was making their classic archtops
@pandorasflame7742
@pandorasflame7742 5 ай бұрын
While Epiphone did produce them earlier, they weren't as popular as Fenders. Furthermore, with Gibson's acquisition of Epiphone in 1957, it would likely confuse people nowadays to call it Gibson scale vs Epiphone scale.

Since John brought up putting some distortion on a guitar like this, I will mention Tim Armstrong from Rancid has been playing a fully hollow Gretsch for a very long time. Another example of finding a guitar you love and figuring out how to do what you want with it.

Thank you for showing what this guitar is capable of. I've seen so many reviews where the tone is rolled off and neck pick up is strangled. A guitar like that doesn't have to have flat wounds and sound like it's under water, it's great to see someone give it some drive, it sounded great. Great review. Thanks.

I'm pleased to see they've at least not turned their backs on the full sized classic jazz guitar which Gibson sadly have done I recent years, es175 discontinued etc.

@@auntjenifer7774 I didn't say it was best but when a sites title says they found the best I would like to know more than a subjective emotional opinion. For example guitars all have lows, lower mids, upper mids and highs.Those with hollow bodies have noticeable resonance the can be both desirable or literally have some nasty honk etc, etc. I could go on. What you like is indeed subjective but a review without objectivity stating what is generally desirable in most big body Jazz guitars for most players give some useful information to a viewer. It can be done by comparing for example to even just a few of the many Gibsons as a yardstick. Otherwise the review is totally useless. It would be like me being handed Shakespeare's Macbeth and the script for a Gilligan's Island TV show and told me their value is subjective. It certainly is. Either you have not compared the two or you have a good solid reason for preferring one over the other. Otherwise WTF was the whole point of your review???

I wonder if its a carved spruce top? I put an adjustable bridge from stew mac on mine from last year with great improvements in tonality. I run 9-42 strings as well, I play folk rock and bend strings on mine.

It is laminated maple. You can't really get carved spruce at this pricepoint except from The Loar which are great once you pay extra for a good setup.

I bought my Broadway when the fingerboard and bridge were made from rosewood and it came with a hard case. I wanted a jazz box, it was my only guitar at the time and I used the bridge pickup for funk. (I believe Prince used a Broadway at some point). It never occurred to me to use overdrive with it though. I did do a complete swap of the electronics and I dropped in a set of Classic 57s. I also put on a bone nut. The guitar plays and sounds beautiful. It can more than hold its own in any situation and with any other guitars. Okay maybe not metal and shred heads, but that isn't my thing either.

The guitar sounds beautiful and i appreciate your reviews but I wish you would share amp info: amp type and settings. I have number of guitars and I can't seem to find that rich creamy sound on the neck pickup. That's what I'm interested in. I have a Fender Twin Tone Master.

Incredible value, really, and I like that colour - haven't seen this model before! I bought a blonde Korean made Broadway about 20 years ago (on sale for approx USD 350 here in HK - not a big market for jazz style guitars!) and I really love it. I'm not a 'jazz guy' per se and while I understand that 12s, maybe flat-wound 12s, might be de rigueur for a guitar like this, my usual 10 - 46s sound and feel terrific. Thanks for the review!

Today I have just found a red Broadway in a shop. Acusticly sounded better this guitar. For me the bridge, and the middle sound was anazingly inspirstive at the shop. That guitar was quite heavy. The neck and tension was super comfortable (factory setup!). Tomorrow I will go back with ny trusty old AER amp. If they sounds good for me, I am gonna buy it!

Since I very seldom use my Seagull acoustic could I just trade that in and use this if I need an acoustic? Could I use this guitar for my Ted Nugent songs? . But I’m gonna want to use 9s or 10s. Are these pickups better for rock than the Gretsch pups?
