Hey Tim. First time I've watched one of your reviews. Over the pond in Canada (heat pump standard!) and have decided on the EV6 but waiting for the 2025 to be released. I've watched tons of reviews, but have never enjoyed any as much as yours. A great combination of an informed and informative review with fantastic humour...can't get that from a North American reviewer, only from the UK! As an aside, with a bit of a hair transplant, you could pad that head of yours for the bumps in the back seat...easier than trying to shrink! Thanks again and keep on reviewing.

Motoring journalists, please stop trotting out this line that heat pumps are only required in Scandinavia. It's cost cutting BS from the manufactuers. Watch the WhatCar EV range test, done at the testing grounds in Bedfordshire. They tested a number of cars from 100% to dead, until they would drive no further, using identical conditions (go watch the test). Included in the test were two ID.7, one with heatpump, one without heatpump. 11 degrees ambient temperature, so hardly Scandinavian deep freeze conditions . The ID.7 with the heatpump travelled 22km further than the ID.7 without the heatpump. Over the lifetime of the car, the heatpump with pay for itself in efficiency gains, but more importantly, if I'm tight for range on the way home from a trip on Sunday evening and that 22km means I make it home without stopping at busy chargers, then it is worth its weight in gold to me. It should be fitted as standard. Most importantly however, British customers are being ripped off. I'm in Ireland and the EV6 is cheaper here than it is in the UK and the base trim in Ireland (Earth) comes will all the goodies as standard, heatpump, memory seats, auto tail lift, privacy glass etc etc, many things that the UK Air spec does not have. "Brexit innit".
@Gdank72Ай бұрын
Regarding the Heat Pump: While on a long trip in winter you will get more range. Lots of short trips it doesn't really matter. The add cost of option vs amount of long winter trips x cost saving. You need it for 5+ years to make any difference on typical UK usage. If you do high mileage the it's a no brainier.
@chrisbell5248Ай бұрын
I have had my EV6 GTLS for 3 years now, at the time of purchase it was easy to work out that the Heat Pump would never pay for itself so I did not get one. I have not regretted that decision, even on a drive back home in Devon from Yorkshire starting with temperature below zero and not getting above 5 decC on the journey they economy was not noticeable worse than any other trip, I still have to put the one stop in for a comfort break and charging as I do in the summer. Although technically you might get a few more miles with a heat pump on a cold winters day the reality is its makes no difference to day to driving.

Its a misunderstanding that heatpumps are best when its really cold. There efficiense are very low when its really cold but a lot higher when its in the plus degrees.
@Bawdale23 күн бұрын
Quite correct, the heat pump is far better suited to Uk weather than Scandinavian

Anyone else noticed what sneaky Kia did with these launch cars? They removed the driver monitoring cameras to avoid inevitable criticism from testers. Read the Car Magazine longer term test of the UK & EU spec EV6, which DOES have a driver monitoring camera fitted. The tester notes that it beeps if you look in the mirrors, if you look at the nav, or even if you wear sunglasses. The tester described it as infuriating.
@TimRodieDrivesStuffАй бұрын
@@mad4tar77 interesting! I had that in the Santa Fe I just reviewed and it beeped whenever I put sunglasses on

@TimRodieDrivesStuff I'm being offered a new 2025 facelift car in January for zero deposit/down payment on PCP and only €36 extra per month (€522 in total) if I trade in my 3 year old EV6 which I bought on PCP in January 2022. EV6 trade in values are really strong. My trade in offer is 62% of the original value, with 50k travelled. All the beeping made me refuse the offer however. Pre beepin- EU regs cars are peak motoring in my opinion, I loathe beeping, so my 2022 car is staying for as long as possible.

Allegedly the latest Model Y has a heated centre rear seat. Obviously you can’t actually turn it on when you’re sat in it though as it’s a Tesla and everything is done through the front screen.
@DontPanicDearАй бұрын
You just need ‘Tesla Haptic Stick 2’ for the Y.

depends on what!, if your target is having fun, driving spirited on backroads or for some trips, in summer, towards the alps or pyrenees...then, it isn't. if you plan to use it as a borring city car, it is gigantic so, again, not ideal. if you want to use as a long commute, you can do it..but you'll need to drive slowly, as the range in big heavy brick house shaped vehicles also is not enough. ..so yeah, it depends!😁🤷🏻
@gannetripple26 күн бұрын
5 heated seats? Yep. Tesla. Every Model 3 and Y, not sure about the others. Control via the front display, the app or, in Model 3 and presumably next year's Y, the rear display. (And bigger boot, 4+ miles/kWh, Supercharger network, much faster, etc).

...MY: no 360° camera, bumpy ride, no shade for the panoramic roof, no Apple CarPlay, no seat ventilation, no 7y warranty, annoying Elon, and so on... 🤷🏻♂️
@gannetripple8 күн бұрын
@@fragu123 I was simply replying to the comment in the review along the lines of no car having five heated seats, not recommending Model Y. Replying to you, however...MY: 4+ miles/kWh, hugely valuable Sentry mode, heat pump, vastly more luggage space, faster, and more. And next year's model will fix the ride, reduce noise, include ventilated seats and an entertainment screen for rear passengers, and more. I wouldn't buy the current Model Y but the new one will eat the EV6.

Too big to be the best. Two seater, small and long distance evs are needed for day to day. We should hire bigger family cars the few times more than one person is inside.

@@sgsuper1150 I think your need is very niche and I can't imagine any car manufacturer making much profit. I agree that a lot of EVs seem to pander to the SUV style but that was the fashion in recent years for pretty much most cars

Funny how looks appeal differently to different people. I think it’s looks ugly. I thought the first version was ugly, but they have managed to make it worse. I think it’s already aged (unlike the ionic 5, where the future as designed in the 70’s look seems timeless to me). I looked at both when I was buying and chose the Škoda Enyaq instead. Boys not particularly good looking, but neither is it bad and the interiors is (IMO) a million times better than either.

Sorry, to my eyes the Ioniq 5 looks a whole lot better than this (or the previous) EV6. Kias seem a bit overstyled to me. Thanks for the review anyway.
