I bought the cheapest EV6 available here in Finland, 58kwh RWD and although it's missing quite a lot of the bells and whistles I was soo pleased to find out that the interior trim was this matte silverish plastic instead of the piano black that the GT-line has here in Finland. I was a bit apprehensive of having the smaller battery, but in the end it's been more than enough for the occasional weekend trip and all of our daily commutes.

They are fantastic cars. I’ve had a GT for 2 years and covered 22,000 faultless miles. The car has been impeccable. I doubt I’ll need to use the 7 year warranty, and the rapid charging makes all the difference on longer journeys. My battery has only degraded 1.5% in that time and of course the performance is incredible. You can add a wireless dongle for wireless CarPlay for about -£70 but the charging pad does certainly get hot. I suspect that’s why my iPhone battery is not great so I might actually move back to wired charging even if the CarPlay is wireless (you can do that) The piano black does get finger marks but I’m careful and mine hasn’t scratched, but I agree there are better alternatives. The full screen HUD and sat nav are very good, I use it in preference to WAZE now. All in all both the original and newer one are amazing!

Good point, we have a 1520kg caravan and I have 6 months to decide between a used EV6, new EV6 on lease, used 2022 diesel Sorento, used 2016 sorento (go cheap) or a 2022 Tesla Model Y. Budget of £30-35k. We have a 2016 Kia Carens and a 2021 Honda e at the moment. The Honda e's 4 year lease is up in March. I love it but will be expensive to repair if I bought it, so keeping the Carens as a 'dog car/spare tow car' and swapping the Honda for one of the above. What do you think?

I can relate to the "I'm hard-pressed to find something to complain about" sentiment. I own a 2023 GT-Line EV6 (US/North America...when I bought it, there was Light, Wind, and GT-Line...is the "two GT-Line variants" a UK thing, or is that going to be for all 2025 worldwide?) and love it. Of course, having had it for a year, I've had enough time to find things I don't like, but it's a short and, some might say, petty list: -- GT-Line gets touch buttons for seat/steering heat/cooling controls, I'd much rather have real buttons for that. I'm better about not accidentally touching them now, but it still happens now and then. -- Rear turn signals are combined with tail/brake lights, instead of having separate amber lamps. This seems to be a US/NA market-only thing, which makes it especially silly. -- "Neutral" audio balance on the Meridian system is not really neutral. It's very front-weighted, and not enough bass. You have to turn on Surround, adjust the equalizer, and shift the balance toward the rear of the car to get a nicely balanced true "neutral" experience. (However, I've heard that the very latest software update might actually fix this...haven't installed on my car yet, so I can't comment on that). -- Vehicle to Load doesn't do 15A, which in North America is a standard household outlet. Would've been really nice if I could plug in my pressure washer or wood splitter in the car, so I can do that work further away from the house without a separate portable battery-powered generator. With household voltage at only 120V in NA, I have no doubt the electronics in the car could support 15A in that market without any trouble. -- Driver assist could be better on less-than-straight roads. Lane keeping has trouble with bendy roads, and where the lines markings aren't perfect, or in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. Adaptive cruise control loses track of the car ahead going around bends. That said, these features are still great, and I really appreciate them on the many roads where they work well. Automatic wipers and high beams also are great. Does the refresh make me wish I had the newer version? No, not really. Honestly, I really like the headlamp design on my car better than the new design. The taillights seems "cleaner" on the new design, but I kind of like the segmented display design of the earlier model. I also prefer my steering wheel; I prefer toggles to what looks like thumb wheels for the buttons, and having the drive mode right under my left thumb is way more convenient than I believe having it centered in the steering wheel would be. I don't change the mode often anyway, but when I do, it's nice to not have to move my hands to get to the button. The other stuff barely changed, not enough for me to care. I kind of would've preferred the new matte finishes, but the gloss black isn't really that big of a deal for me. I did notice that they seem to have changed the USB ports under the console. Or maybe that's a US/NA vs UK market thing? My car has one USB-A and one USB-C, the former can do data/communications, the latter is strictly for power/charging. In this video, you can see that the two ports are now both USB-C, though still only one can do data/communications.

I've been dancing on the knife's edge of buying a '22 or '23 EV6 (which are going for sale 70,000 NZD in my local market) for a almost half a year now, but ever since the facelift was unveiled I've been paralysed with the want to instead wait and get that instead for roughly 115,000 NZD. I love basically everything about the facelift. It's pretty crazy that I'm actually considering paying over 50% more for almost the same vehicle. The new CCnC operating system with wireless phone projection and allowing the HUD AR navigation directions to now work when using navigation from your phone are especially big draws. I'm really looking forward to seeing the dedicated reviews on the Meridian sound system, because that ended up being extremely contentious for owners of the original EV6, mostly due to poor subwoofer performance. After some Infotainment updates targeted at improving this and a recall for the sound system amplifier, the owner community is quite divided, but more along the lines of taste. I'm curious if the facelift has made any changes to the sound system, or if it's just equivalent to having a fully updated system from the pre-facelift.
@antonphillipson67192 ай бұрын
As a kiwi who works for Kia/Hyundai in Australia, definitely go for the facelift! As said in this review, the current '22-23 spec cars feel extremenly dated, mainly with the infotainment systems. No wireless CarPlay, no AR-HUD, the general speed and cleanliness of the new layout is lightyears ahead. And with all new Kia/Hyundai models coming out with this new system, the older systems feel very lack-lustre. To decide what car you want to go for, go to your local Kia dealer and experience the systems back to back with some models there. I'm sure your mind will be made up very quickly!

Fast low maintenance and I save $11k a year on petrol which alone pays my car off in 5 years so if I gave it away for free then I’m still winning. 8 year battery warranty and drive for up to 6 hours a day on one charge. Perfect. The latest looks interesting

Hey there. I'm curious what trim you have where you're saying that you haven't lost any value? I've been watching the GT-Line listings on TradeMe this year (amongst a bunch of others) and from what I've the two-hit combo of the Clean Car Discount ending and RUCs being applied to EVs has caused those to nosedive in value along with the rest of the EV market. Honestly I never anticipated that the end of the CCD would bomb the values of cars that were too expensive to qualify in the first place, but I guess in hindsight it's obvious that when the entire market gets gutted overnight ALL prices will fall. Sucks for owners, excellent for buyers

Don’t worry I read only 1 in 11 EV’s last year in the UK was bought privately - most new EVs are bought by businesses as tax benefit, fleet, private leases or work place leases. A few older people with windfalls from retirement might buy new. Let someone else buy it new let them take the depreciation and you pick it up a couple of years later for half the price still with 6 years manufacture warranty. I’ve had my GV60 2 years bought from new with a retirement windfall - I wouldn’t recommend anyone sink £40K - £60K into an EV using money they’ve worked 9 - 5 for unless it’s for some kind of business use to make you money (Uber or Hire).

I think having a shortcut to a personnel setup profile isn't a gimmick, but a great idea! Heard lots of reviewers complain about having to turn off everything they changed, every time they start up the vehicle again, due to safety reasons. I think some of us want to drive the vehicle, not be driven. For example, driving down a twisty road with full visibility, I would drive a straighter line cutting across the lines a little. With lane assist, it fights you. So I would hardly ever use it.

Ever so slightly against the general sentiment here, I think for UK, we are still waiting for next gen battery tech. It feels a bit like watching computer processor development back in the 90's until eventually the processing power caught up with and generally exceeded software demands. Sorry for the obscure comparison, but what I am alluding to is that I expect battery tech to deliver 500+ mile range from lighter weight battery units. When that happens, EV's will have matured. Until then I'm afraid I still view them as early adopter material, best suited to business users.

I have an EV6 and I absolutely love it, and the facelift model seems to add some nice new features, along with a bit more range, which I will never complain about. But the biggest gripe I have with it, and based on this video Kia don't seem to have done anything about, is just how reflective the windscreen is - especially on the GTLS with Head-Up display. In bright and sunny days it can be dangerous to drive as your vision can be almost completely obscured, especially when you are driving in conditions where the amount of light keeps changing like when driving down roads with lots of trees on the side making the light flicker in and out. I have had lots of other cars with and without head-up displays and this is the worst windscreen ever for interior reflectivity

I have had an EV6 GT-Line S for 30 months. It has a wonderful heads-up display and I've never experienced the dazzle mentioned in this review. It's one of the many great features on this wonderful car. In 60 driving years I've had some great cars, including two from Lotus, but the EV6 is a different kind of driving experience and I'd never go back to an ICE car now I've enjoyed driving an EV6 - it's superb, relaxing, easy to drive and smooth - all with a 7 year warranty!

Is it really the right thing to focus on rapid charging, although the speed is good, won’t the cost be very high?
@lmaoroflcopter2 ай бұрын
Depends if you use rapid charging or not. 99% of my journeys I'm charging at home. On the journeys, I need to travel far, that's when charging speed matters, so I'll pay the premium once in a blue moon to recharge fast. That's where the savings over normal ice cars comes into play. During most journeys, I'm doing a fraction of the cost... occasionally, I'll need to pay slightly more of a fraction of the cost of running my old diesel. So it works out quite equitable. Obvs, if you're doing hundreds of miles every day, then those costs will add up.

Great to see the old and new side by side. Nearly 3 years in my GTL AWD, and it's still one of the best cars in its class, EV or otherwise. I love the combination of style, driving pleasure, practicality and range/charging speed. Most of the facelift changes seem worthwhile, but grafting those angular DRLs onto the curvaceous EV6 design doesn't work - for me, anyway. Looking forward to the in-depth review.

When you get to my age. Words I have heard you say on more than one occasion that make me worried about my own shortcomings. I am probably at least 20 years older and I start to get worried about driving to the end of my drive in case I have to stop for a break. I enjoy your reviews. They appear to be honest and, to date, coincide with mine. They are capable of being listened to without any wild screeches of excitement. Some reviewers annoy me intensely and when they also delve into other areas I just turn them off. It's not Clarkson and co. by the way. Keep up the good work with honest thoughts and comments, I am currently awaiting delivery of my first EV. Chosen because, 'When you get to my age,' you don't, or very rarely, leave the county you live in and I have the facility of home charging. I also decided to spend some of my money on myself before the family grease the stairs.

Can the charging network keep pace with the new tech? Judging by how it is now, I doubt it. Until there are huge EV charging stations in every town, city, and motorway services, people are not going to make the leap. There has to be that 'reassurance in the system. Car manufacturers are making very good cars (albeit very expensive) at the moment, which, as cars, are getting very tempting. The infrastructure is not so much. As always, a superb video 👌

Yes, the height issue(s) put me off the EV6 too. Not enough headroom under the sunroof (the GT is better but I couldn’t justify that) and the rear cushion set so low that passengers have to sit with their knees up in the air. Pity, because it looks great and is a nicer drive than the Ioniq 5, and I like the updates to the interior.

Over 50k Miles in the outgoing EV6. Still love the car. Drove it to Northern Spain and France last month. The fastcharging was rocking, the kids were the weakest link to get on our way again. As for the update, seeing it on film, it looks great. Getting rid of the piano black is a big plus. People also might mention the rear wiper, i havent missed it yet. @@henrikgustavii9762 _"facelift EV6 has a digital rear view camera to compensate for the lack of rear wiper"_ -- does it? Interesting. I'm not sure how much value there will be in that change, at least without an automatic wiper for the rear camera. I find that the rear window doesn't get that bad even in heavy rain, but the camera gets water droplets and even dirt spots in even modest rain.

My wife's EV6 has covered some 40K completely trouble-free miles, and although I don't drive it that often I'm always hugely impressed with the car. It really is space-age, with all the gadgetry you could possibly want. The new model looks great - my only criticism is the placement of the seat heating/cooling buttons in the same location as the outgoing model & are very easy to inadvertently press. As you say Mr Ped, it really is a difficult car to criticise!
@henrikgustavii97622 ай бұрын
They've fixed that with the facelift. You have to now press harder/longer to trigger. I've seen that on the Korean videos which have all complained about the outgoing model about that.

Now it turns out that Kia UK have decided not to include the digital rear view mirror... You can see it on the video above with the camera on the back spoiler.. So what motivates the £10,000 increase in price over the EV3? 800-volt architecture, slightly larger car, finger print scanner (yay...) and is that it? A lot of money for very little it seems. Feels a little greedy by Kia UK.

I've had my Kia EV6 GT line S for 2.5 years and love it.....but over that time I've had and still have got a persistent, intermittant12 volt battery problem where the battery drains and renders the car unusable. This fault started nine months after purchase. It's going back to Kia in three days time for them to try yet again to rectify the problem. My wife and I have been left stranded on several occasions so much so that she now refuses to use the car. I have had to buy a 12 volt battery booster in order to start the car when it fails. My wife would definitely not be able to cope. I'll let you know if Kia manages to fix the problem. What can I do if they can't fix it???

Hi Pete I have the current ev6 rear drive GT Line S and love the car having had the Kia e Niro before. My take on the face lift modal is I prefer my wheel design also the front look. But the bigger battery capacity is another plus. As for the interior I agree with you on the gloss black and yes the steering wheel looks modern. But the big improvement is wireless Apple CarPlay. The simple answer is would I consider this car as a replacement for mine when I’m ready to change then yes is the answer. But would be interested in the EV3 as a duel motor GT modal going to view the car next month when the road show comes to my local dealership.

The attention monitor is on my Lexus LBX and it's actually brilliant because occasionally one can look away from the road ahead quite a bit longer than it feels. Same about traffic signs recognition -- it's often wrong (but Google Maps is generally right) and it just attracts your attention especially in 20mph areas; it's a pain in supermarkets car parks where the limit is 5mph! The fingerprint thingi -- i agree. The Lexus "recognises" me when I get in (works like Windows Hello, it matches your pupil) if I had to swipe a finger I may as well have a keyfob. However, the pen-tester in me doesn't trust the phone as an access device -- I did find myself pen-testing my own car on the Ikea car park ...

Does the speed sign recognition even work consistently? My 2020 focus cannot tell the difference between signs for cars, signs for lorries, signs for french autoroute slip roads and sometimes even signs for sideroads. Nowhere near good enough to allow the car to decide. Is this typical?
@harvey666162 ай бұрын
I'd say that the speed limit detection is better on my EV6 than you describe on your Focus. For one, it has an internal database that allows it to correctly determine the speed limit even when there are no signs. It does have its own problems. The database isn't always right (usually because it's out of date after the local authorities change the limit). And yes, it does have a camera based detection as well, which sometimes gets things incorrect. Mostly not for the reasons you mention, but the one thing I notice a lot is that it just doesn't know what times a "School Zone" speed limit is actually in force, nor does it have any detection for the "End School Zone" signs, so when you drive past a school, you often see the detected limit change to 20 mph even if school's not in session, and stay that way well past the school zone, i.e. until the next regular limit sign. But I'd say the EV6 gets the speed limit right well over 90% of the time. It's about as reliable as the other driver assist stuff, which is to say pretty good, good enough to be an actual help, but not so good that the driver can just delegate the tasks to the car without being in the loop. But no driver should ever be doing that in any production car anyway, so that seems reasonable to me.
