2024 EV6 Wind AWD with Tech package owner and man do I love this car. Road-tripping has been so easy with it!
@theblubusАй бұрын
We took our '22 EV6 RWD Wind Long Range on a 2000mi road trip(round trip) this summer and the car did outstanding. We didn't precondition the battery before charging and the car would easily pull 232kw without any noticeable throttling. We'd come off the highway, plug in and within 12-14 minutes, the car's ready to go again at 80-85% charge. While charging, we wouldn't wait in the car nor would we leave the HVAC running. Because the 4 of us we were sitting for about 3 hours, we'd all want to get up and walk around, get food, use bathrooms etc. When getting back in the car, sure it's very hot because it was Summer but we did the same thing we'd do in a gas car to cool off the cabin quickly: We'd turn the car on with the A/C running and put all the windows down. After about 30 seconds, put the windows up and the car is cooled back down comfortable cabin temps within a minute or 2. The longest charge time we saw was 16 minutes, going from 20% to 83% SoC. I can't say enough great things about the performance of the car. I'm thoroughly impressed.
@Stewiedude1Ай бұрын
That is impressive. I'm guessing the battery was warm enough from ambient temperature to charge fast. Just be aware that if you fail to precondition in lower ambient temperatures it will throttle your speed and if for some reason it doesn't you are massively increasing the risk of damage to the cells due to dendrite formation.
@theblubusАй бұрын

This one should do pretty well. I comfortably finished a the last ~120 mile leg of my 1,000 km test in the RWD on less than a 12-min charge on a 150 kW charger (it added nearly 30 kWh, if memory serves). Of course, my speed limit was 70-75 mph, so the extra speed could impact some of the results.
@davidbaker9943Ай бұрын
Nice job!!!
@gelu88Ай бұрын
Pity about the thermal issues, you probably could have added an extra 5 or 10 miles if you maxed out the curve. Edit: the drop to 188kw was maybe a couple of percent sooner than expected, but it should have stayed above 170kw till beyond 80% By my math you lost 1 kWh or so. So yeah 3 to 5 miles more if you tried again.
@commanderroddi7742Күн бұрын
My experience charging these cars is: It will hold around 225-230ish (depending on outside temp, if car is per-conditioned) to about 50% or a bit past, but around 50ish. Drops to around 180s (182-185) around that time, and holds that to around 0-65%, then it drops to about just below 120 kWhs, and you don't want to go much beyond 80 percent, and rankly, I usually stop around 65% unless I need the extra range (and that should give me plenty or ranch). So, that is usually 13 to 15 mins depending conditions. according to Out of Spec range its either 140-160 mi. gained (again, depeding conditions, and the low number is the Test Jordan Did, the other is the Kyle Test, both AWD Wind trims. If you look at Tom' test in Inside EV, it would be around 159 or so... But hose drops are not thermal throttling, they're how Hyundai/Kaia designed the curve. (There are some times where the car will drop to about 30-35 kWh for 2 to 5 mins, but then climbs back to 180, or 120 depending...Seen plenty of that when I do the 80% charges for longer stretches, or climbing the Rockies). Car DOES charge like a Monster (so does Ioniq5; however, this car is the more aerodynamic, and I would ahve gotten a RWD, though I do appprciate the extra power, and AWD for snow in Utah winters. I do like the Ioniq 5, and have Leased one, enjoy that it has more convenient cargo room, and the rear seat is better for passengers. However, I prefer the looks of the EV6 inside, and I LOVE the interior of the EV6 over the Ioniq 5 (I like the Ioniq's interior, but prefer Kia's). Properly configured, I'd figure the AWD would do close to this result (based on my experience). definitely over 100 to 110 miles I think? WOuld like to see that test (of a EV^ 77.4kWh AWD. GOod result, though! Charge 15 mins, and drive for over 100 miles, ... Awesome car! and you can get one of thes for around 50K....

Across Europe, pricing for the facelift version is finally being published. The result should be better than this, not only because the battery is bigger, but also the peak charging speed has increased, and as a small bonus, in some markets the base RWD trim with the big battery is 4-5% cheaper than the outgoing version.

I do believe that is incorrect about the RWDs not being able to precondition. The battery can still be cooled by the AC compressor, and it has a resistive battery heater in 2023+ models. That’s how it is on the Ioniq 5s, at least. 2022 RWD was the only year that lacked battery preconditioning via nav and cannot be added because they lack the PTC heater on that model year. Kia folks, correct me if I’m off base here…

@@brandenflasch No, it does not require a heat pump. Apparently all US EV6s come with a PTC battery heater, though early 2022 models did not have preconditioning (though can be upgraded by the dealer with software). If you have the option to turn on "Winter Mode" in the settings, than your car has preconditioning. Unfortunately, preconditioning cannot be manually turned on; instead you have to have Winter Mode turned on in settings (is off by default) and then use Kia's Navigation software to navigate to a recognized DC fast charger.
