🌸 🏫 Yes, you understood the Nendo definition. It's a business or academic year. For Sakura Gakuin, the 2012 Nendo finished at the end of March 2013. The graduations (with one exception during COVID) are at the end of March. "Suu" is pretty much the same as "Su-", like in "Su-metal". The "-" indicates a slightly extended "u" sound. TIF stands for Tokyo Idol Festival. Sakura Gakuin members were frequent participants. The guy in the office was Mori Hayashi (Mori-sensei), the Sakura Gakuin Home Room teacher. He's a comedian and script writer. Koba has a moustache. "san" is an honorific, like Mister. It's often added to Japanese names out of politeness.

All the staff involved in Sakuara Gakuin are teachers. Koba was 1 of the producers of SG, also known as the life-style teacher. He never got on camera The teacher you see is the 'home room teacher', basically the main teacher of the class, he is actually a play writers and he can improvise. He is the main guy who comes up with the scenarios (the situation is the 'scripted' part) and through improvisation he would try and get them to react. If it's funny, etc. that's all very much reality. Sakura Gakuin exists to give them more experience in entertainment industry, they did acting, as you can see writing anew lyrics for a song, etc. and obviously dancing and singing as a live performance. Amuse as a company is pretty big and they know how to find the most talented people and kids in Japan and these kids are the most talented girls that don't already have a lot of jobs. They are worth investing extra time in because they seem the most talented. Also what is nice about SG, selling DVD/Blu-ray and shows helps fund the effort. Some of the kids left entertainment, some because a big deal. Others are less of a big deal, but still very good. These kids went through a lot doing live performances, training hard. So the friendships are very real, they are forged under pressure.

Regarding the spelling of Su's name: You have probably seen the spelling "Su-metal". That's not hyphen, it's a symbol that indicates that the preceding vowel is elongated in pronunciation. There are different systems of Romaji to display Japanese words with Roman letters. Some use the "hyphen" to indicate long vowels (Su-), others use a doubling of the vowel (Suu). The latter is more in line with the spelling in Hiragana, where the mora (syllables) su and u would be used (すう, as you can see in the first two mora at 12:03). I think there's also a third system where the elongation is indicated by a line above the vowel. Without any of these, the name would be pronounced with a short u-sound.

@gaplauche I guess it might also just be an attempt to make it easier to read to Western eyes. "Suusan" might just look a little confusing. I also tend to add a hyphen before honorifics in Hiragana, like "Mori-sensei", even though it's technically wrong. Given that there's no space between words in Japanese, maybe using a space as a delimiter would be more "true" to the original. I'm not an expert, though, so I might as well be wrong.

I see you're still somewhat confused about things, so hope this help. Sakura Gakuin is an Idol group with a school theme. Meaning, they perform in school uniforms, sing songs about school related stuff like friendship, graduation, and other topic related to girls at that age. Their main focus is of course making music, release albums, and do concerts, but they also do some acting, and other events and activities. They do lean quite heavily into this school theme, that's why they use the terms like graduation, teachers, nendo, etc. 'Nendo' basically means 'a school year', or 'one school term'. Just like real school where you stay in one grade for one year, then move up one grade the next year. For example, '2012 nendo', starts in May 2012 and ends in March 2013. Then May 2013 will be the start of '2013 nendo'. At the end of the nendo, they will have a graduation concert where the senior members will "graduate" from Sakura Gakuin, meaning leaving the group and go continue their careers elsewhere. Then, at the start of the next nendo, new members will join the group. This non-music type videos are bonus videos that are included in their DVDs and Blu-ray releases. That's why they have a high level of production, since they're selling them. Those 'nendo tests' that you've probably heard, are also one of this bonus videos. The bonus videos are usually not heavily scripted. Unless they do a skit, that obviously will be scripted. They usually probably just have some rough idea of what the video is going to be, and what to do. Using this video as an example, the members had the idea to do appreciation party for Su. The producers taught that would be a good idea for bonus video so they decide to film it. They arrange the venue, schedule and everything then just put the cameraman there to film them. As for Su's case, she probably was just told that there are some filming that day, but was not told about what it is. She just show up and follow the flow. That's why it looked like a reality TV show. Because it is the reality, that was filmed professionally. Next, I would suggest a Sakura Gakuin song since you got a snippet of it. Sakura Gakuin - "Marshmallow Iro No Kimi To". The song was released in 2012 nendo's album. This video is always adorable. I wonder if Su still keeps that album and looks at it sometimes. For a good knowledge of the first Sakura Gakuin years, I recommend to you this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5jJYnaHpbyUftk (for your own pleasure more than reaction, as is 14 episodes in 4:36 hours) It's a reality show about the first SG year, not scripted but they had cameras on them all the time. Is perfect to know about these 12 amazing girls of the first SG generation, and all of them are worthy to get to know in their own right. You can understand too the role of Mori-sensei and other "teachers" that guided the girls to become "super ladies". And of course there are the nendo tests, general culture tests they had to do at the end of every nendo. Those are always hilarious and a must to react to. Sakura Gakuin are really worth to dig into. Not only the joy of seeing Su, Moa and Yui so little and so special (and Momo in later years), but every girl is special, talented and adorable in their own personality. I love Babymetal reactors who dare to go as deep as to dig into Sakura Gakuin as well, thanks and cheers!!

School year starts in 2012 and ends March of 2013. Thus it's called Class of 2012 or 2012 Nendo. So this video AND the actual graduation took place in 2013...but it's still called Class of 2012. As for context, they are reminiscing on their time together. They then proceed to rewrite the lyrics to an SG song to fit their feelings towards Su. That is the "homeroom teacher" Mori Sensei (Hayashi Mori), who is also one of the producers and script writers. This is NOT Koba😂😂. Although it IS scripted to a point, it's more of an outline, the girls are encouraged to just act as themselves and ad-lib most of the scenes and scripts to keep the emotions and reactions real. 😂

I thought it said 'Nendo Test' at first and I get a bit too excited. By the way, there's a game called 'Kawaii Deathu Desu' that I think is inspired by Babymetal. It sports the phrase, 'because even death can be kawaii," and features a character named Suu. 2nd Edit: TIF is, I believe, Tokyo Idol Festival, where they played and apparently were all pretty proud of how it went.

To avoid confusion, Koba should have just named Suu Suumetal to keep it clean when you see everyone's names together, but I understand it's a Japanese symbol and not a hyphen. Still it's the reason everypone on the internet say Su and not Suu because of Su-Metal.

So I don't know 100% how SG works, but I have a feeling (may be TOTALLY wrong), but I have a feeling that, since that school is all about training these girls how to become, in essence, JPop idols for the most part, they need to be VERY comfortable with the camera on them. As such, I think to help the girls get used to being in the spotlight so a) they don't get stage-fright and b) they don't act all weird in front of the camera when they see it's focused on them, SG ALWAYS has cameras recording them while they are in class and doing things related to SG. I think that's why they also followed Su as she was looking for the location she was supposed to go to and all that other stuff. I think that is also why it looks so scripted. It's because that kind of the style it is portrayed as so the girls can almost forget that the camera is even there and wont be nervous around cameras anymore. As for Yui. I don't think she is emotionless. There ARE things that she had gone through while in SG that had her REALLY scared. But for the most part Yui is as emotionally strong as Su. But if you look closely you'll see Yui WAS actually shedding a tear or two during that little appreciation party they put together for Su. You're 100% correct about Moa though. She wears her emotions on her sleeve. And that is how you'll know when Babymetal is ending. Just see how Moa responds. If she's an absolute emotional mess, then there's going to be a LOT of Babymetal fans who will also probably be crying. If she is happy and cheerful, like when they went on their hiatus and everybody thought they were done, then you know they'll be back. Moa was my litmus test back then, and she proved me right.
