Geo, you’ve shaved with the SS, DX and SR. I see the SR has more weight than the SS but is the rounded edge the same as the SS and as for the shave, what is the difference in angle? Your advice as usual is priceless.
@thecutthroatjourney2 жыл бұрын
If I May add my advice since I own an SR and SS, the SR angle of attack is similar to a traditional straight. I would put it at 30 degrees. The SS to me is around 45 degrees. I hope this helps out. The SR is excellent. I enjoy using it!

What’s the difference between the SR and DX. Dx is super expensive!
@UseVisine Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I know this is a year old and you may have found the answer by now. The SS and SR are cast. The DX is machined. Machining is expensive, that's the biggest factor for the cost difference. The parts of the DX just fit better and I just find it the better looking razor. In terms of performance, it really depends on you. The SS is milder/more forgiving but you can't use the shorter Light and Softguard blades in it. The SR has a bit more exposure and can use all five types of feather blades. The DX has the most exposure (and you should use the least pressure with this model). The SR is a fantastic middleground between the SS and DX and if I'm being honest, factoring in the cost, is the better razor between it and the DX. Cost no issue and factoring in looks and fit/finish, DX wins. The DX has this unwanted stiction effect though if lather is too thick. But yeah, this has gone on long enough. Lol. SR is cast. DX is machined. That's it.

Happy 4th of July Geo! Geo, goes without saying, viewers will be wanting your opinion/comparison on the SR vs SS vs DX. The SR is allegedly a hybrid of the SS and DX in that it still has a lip like the SS but not as pronounced. Looking forward to an SR w/ Japanese handle myself.

Hey, thanks for the video and review. I'm thinking about jumping the train and try a shavette razor for the first time (this particular model), because I have super thick and coarse beard that grows very fast, and I really need to upgrade my shave kit to something that gives me a closer, smoother and more pleasant shave. Do you think that this razor will suit my needs? I have tried a classic Double edge razor before, and while I liked it, I would still like to have something that gives me even closer shave and more precision. Thanks in advance, and cheers !

Hey, Geo, you're looking in fine form. You haven't lost a beat. Must be, as you said, that European blood. Two questions: 1. I get a better shave with my Feather Artist Club SS than I do with my stropped straight razors. Would you say that's unusual, or could it be due to how well or poorly my straight razors are honed, my technique or what? What would you imagine? 2. I don't have a Feather Artist Club DX or SR. Do both of these have that unbeveled edge, or is the SR's edge like that of the SS, which I have? I get a great shave with my SS. My beard is not very coarse, especially at 71-years-old. What difference do you think I'd see/feel, shaving with a DX or SR, compared to my SS? Thanks, Geo. Keep up the good work. I'll recommend you for a raise. By the way, if you need anything from the San Jose / San Francisco area of California, let me know. I'll do my best to deliver any reasonable requests. Ciao, guy.
@geofatboy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Martin, Nice to hear from you! It's hard to get a straight razor as sharp as those proprietary AC blades that are made by machine in Japan. Plus, no honing hassles. Stick with your AC SS it is the most popular shavette we sell.Also the choice of many professional barbers. Regarding the bevels, might be a good topic for an upcoming video. And-2 of my best childhood friends moved to San Jose many years ago... Brothers John and Robert. An outside wireman and a fire chief respectively... Enjoy the weather!

I really want to try that razor, but had a bad experience with a cheap shavette. I shave with my dad's 1957 Gillette red tip (and currently a Feather blade) for 45 years, so I have some experience but I wonder...is it easier and more comfortable using a high-end shavette versus a cheap one? Any advice will be helpful.
