@McRocket3 жыл бұрын
@@boddjpllf4861 I understood that from the beginning. The way she is armed - that's all she can do. But for the money? That is an insane amount of money for her role. They literally should have just bought a freighter and stuck guns (minus the 5" gun turret - overkill for her roll), sensors, radios and a helo deck/hangar on it. It would be JUST as effective and cost about 1/3-1/2 what this thing cost. Finally, this tub is missing some inexcusable systems for a warship designed to operate far from home in hostile waters. For one, it has ZERO, mine detection equipment. And pirates can easily utilize mines. Yet the bloody thing has a gymnasium built behind the 5" gun turret?!? The ships are FAR too expensive for their roles and pathetically equipped to adequately protect her crews. They are, imo, ridiculous.

@@McRocket an armed freighter would probably cost about 1/10 of what they have now while retaining the same effectiveness. That frigate isnt underpowered its just that this video didnt show any of the ship's main armaments: missiles. Actually, all of those guns it showed are secondary or tertiary weapons-to defend the ship against enemy missiles or use against smaller threats like aircraft or terrorist groups. The main weapons it carries are the 8+ anti ship missiles and RAM close range missiles plus 2 helicopters that are most likely going to carry torpedoes to combat other large surface combatants

Um, speedboats and jetskis are your biggest threat? I think it might be missiles actually...😉
@shatterproof79443 жыл бұрын
in fact, it is like this. The last time there was a naval war with missiles was in the Falklands War, which was more than 40 years ago, and even there German units were not involved. The biggest threat is actually in the coastal waters when you are abroad, whether you want or not a ship must sometimes enter or sail close to the coast. There it is most unprotected and an easy target. The asymmetric threat is always the greatest there.

The crew of the U.S.S. Cole would disagree with you. There's a reason why the latest generation of ships all have guns that can fire straight down off the side.

Main gun looks similar to the 5 inch on modern US Destroyers and cruisers. No need to automate loading the ammo hoist you can do that manually and very quickly.
@jaturnley3 жыл бұрын
It's a matter of consistency - removing the human element allows for new tactics. Modern automated artillery can use one gun to replace multiple manual feed ones by firing quickly and in a pattern that allows multiple shots to be in the air at once. You can coordinate an area saturation attack with a single gun and have all shells hit nearly simultaneously. Plus, more automation means less crew, and crew are the most vulnerable and unreliable part of a ship. They are also the hardest to replace in a short period. The US lost entire warships for weeks at a time due to COVID, and has had to have crews of LCS craft work for double or even triple their planned deployments due to lack of trained replacements.
