Honestly I'd say that while not feeling like a puppet master, new Maxwell feels more like a "Former Puppet master," he still has some tricks but isn't at max capacity, which I enjoy considering the character lore

One thing I always thought would be really fun about this rework is that the magician's top hat is a head item, while your backpack is a chest slot item, which means you can stack mad storage capacity with Maxwell now. Imagine raiding the ruins with your friends as a designated pack mule and carrying around a whopping 20-26 extra storage slots, potentially even far more if you have a friend at base working your magician's chest

Something I adore about the shadow storage thing is that I normally play with my one friend, and if one of us is Maxwell and the other has Shadow Chester, we can share resources with each other from any distance. That utility is INSANE

I personally really like the update for a few reasons. 1. The shadow storage! (A wonderful idea) A.Maxwell as become more of a coop character. With his instantaneous ressources transportation, he can reliably support player from distance providing necessary item and food by the only shared inventory in the game. B. Shadow Chester as receive a much needed utility buff. He was previously far inferior to the ice varient only adding 3 inventory slot compared to the cooling effect of the other version. The effect is yes still locked behind a Maxwell ability but incredibly powerful nonetheless and is accessible for every character if a specific structure is placed by him. 2.New shadow duellist (nicely balanced) A. They kept Maxwell low health relevancy by making his summons scale with is work in combat and redirecting aggro mostly to him. So that he has to put him self in arm way to get full benefit (high risk high reward) B. Power scaling as been implemented so that the summon still keep there relevancy in late game and aren’t to strong in early game. C. The scaling as also the effect of giving more use to the magic tab for Maxwell that didn’t get more use out of it even if he was supposed to be the prime magic user in game to begin with. 3. Shadow gatherers (multitask+less cost) A. They are in my opinion more useful and easy to use then ever, while still not being broken good. They give the early benefits of reducing time for ressources gathering, they possess every gathering tools even if you don’t have access to them yet, they can collect loot for you and they don’t stop their work even when far away. Even the cost of summoning is lighter than before, all that and we only get one real nerf. They die by themselves when their time is up 4.Shadow prison (crowd control!) A. A spell that cost 15 sanity to trap any mob for a specific duration. Unique + cheep and goes very well with Maxwell a frail character that can use some safety in fight. A spell that can benefit in a team fight. 5.Shadow sneak (reliable nightmare source) A. An easy source of nightmare fuel for the character who as the single most powerful passive sanity regeneration in the game and benefits the most from said nightmare fuel. In my point of view the rework gave way more than I expected and made me want to main him for a while. I do think the shadow sneak need some work but. Besides that I’m very satisfied I hope I didn’t make your eye bleed english isn’t my first language.

I know a lot of people say Abigail does everything while Wendy does nothing, I feel that is more true for casual Maxwell since they can do everything, plus it is pretty easy for smaller mobs to be overwhelmed, especially if you spend a bit having your minions dig up life amulets and make top hats since both will buff them enough to take out most normal creatures you can struggle with, especially if you are skilled enough to know when to step in

I used to not like this rework, but i think it came out pretty well. I was worried at first with the servants not following you, but seeing how spammable they are, it is still viable to clear forests as maxwell, you can even set up semi-automatic treefarms which is handy. The shadow duelists went from being near useless to making maxwell a combat powerhouse. I think he scales pretty well, dealing with easy mobs in the early game with no shadow gear, to killing bosses without lifting a finger in the late game. His low health combines nicely with his summoning ability, allowing him to do lots of damage without risking his own health, differentiating him from Wanda as a shadow-based glass cannon. The other spells are alright. I don't see myself using the sneak as a getaway, but it looks like a handy way to mass farm nightmare fuel. And the shadow prison could be a handy getaway, or a combat stalling tool. 8 seconds is still a lot of time for duelists to be doing damage. Overall. Good update, I might even try playing maxwell.

SNeak is a good way to far nightmarefule early imo, especially with how easy it is to kite rabbits and make simple blowdarts with all the extra feathers laying around or grass traps

The magicians hat and the backpack mean you don't even have to base for most of your first season. I kept the hat in my backpack so the backpack was actually a 19 space storage. VERY handy.

add in normal or ice chester for some extra storage hmm a Walter & Woby + Maxwell (William) duo for storage transportation with the best backpacks with most storage and ice chester to keep food stuff spoiling a lil slower then Warly with his mobile crockpot along with a WX with light module and swap between heating/cooling modules and you more or less dont need a base anymore

New rework is honestly amazing, The hat definitely has to be my favorite part. Me and my friend will just be across the map, I'm collecting resources and he's at the base. I just end up dumping hundreds upon hundreds of resources into the hat for him to move into our chests VIA shadow chester, This rework has to be my favorite of them all.

DUUUUUDE Maxwell is actually SO OP now. I'm kinda upset how the reworks seemed to get more detailed or add more stuff over time, meaning the earlier characters barely got anything compared to... Maxwell for example. Just due to the fact of how absolutely broken he seems now I've completely changed my mind about who I was gonna play today.

I usually play with a Maxwell player and I've seen what this refresh is capable of - big fan. All those bundled snacks made in advance for the bosses practically become pointless. What I really don't get is what they were thinking with shadow chester. It's nice to have options for the inter-dimensional storage, but as far as I can tell it just forces you to take ice/normal chester if you don't want to share its storage with a Maxwell. The potential to trade across map or have someone dump your hat contents back at base is amazing, but it's a lot like the lazy deserters we've set up - really not even worth remembering since no one sits at base doing nothing Anyway, what a journey. All these videos have been great. Maxwell was a nice little cash cow for content lol. Thanks!

I love all these changes and I love this rework so much it looks so fun I just wish he had more spells. Mind helping us out with that one lovely folks in the moding community. But I do have an idea for two spells and their simple. Shadow mutandis and shadow grasp. Shadow mutandis cost 30 sanity to cast it summons a shadow of tall Maxwell like how he appeared in don't starve the original, the tall shadow Maxwell pulls out of top hat and slams it into the ground or if you wanna save on animation just a black shadowy projectile that ends in an explosion. Whatever gets hit by the explosion takes damage or gets cursed a list of all the things that can get cursed what snd happens to it. Where cular Twiggy branches get turned into thorny once, pigman get turned into werewolves, it also does the shadow Bunny shadow Bunny rabbit thing that the shadow sneak does, turns clockwork into the dark corrupted clockwork you find in the ruins. Wolves either turn into fire wolves or ice wolves it's random, big meat gets turned into nightmare fuel, meet morsel gets turned into monster meat, leafy meat gets turned into monster meat, all fruits turn into Durian, all other food gets turned into rotten food, all unfinished growing crops turned into fully grown weeds randomly which ones, schools of fish turning in to three sharks, all birds get turned into crows, trees have a rare chance into becoming tree guards the chance is much higher if it's a Birch tree, flowers become evil flowers, bees get turned into killer bees, grass has a chance to get turned into grass geckos, carrots turn into carrats, all celestial moon creatures get turned back into their regular variant except for carrats and creatures that don't have a regular variant obviously, if you curse a woody player he instantly turned into one of the werewolf creatures The second spell shadow grasp cost 3 sanity after activating the spell just click on any loose item on the floor and a shadow hand like the kind that steals the fire at night will emerge from Maxwell's hand and pull the item to him this works anywhere on the screen even through walls

Umm… I don’t like this rework am I missing something here? Before you could have the shadows not run out and farm and farm and farm forever and they follow you around…… now you place a serve t in one area and they get stuck there and once it’s cleared… say 3 boulders to mine you have to kill it and place in new area and waste materials. To me that’s trash

They're all connected, even other survivor's. There's no way to create separate links between them so the inventories are shared which is both a blessing and a curse.

Im still not satisfied personally, because when you look at wicker's or wx's reworks, this feels like a refresh cut short. Again, personal opinion. But they could've added a lot more features showing his past. (HECK he was a magician turned GOD.)But it looks like he magically forgot somethings(probably Charlie's influence) Maybe add one more spell and one more special item? But tbh Idk if they're gonna touch him again after the rework(minus the hotfixes if he needs one) Overall the rework is GREAT! (Heh get it cuz great maxw- I need to sleep.) Plus:Add an animation when you right click the codex klei pls it feels so weird (sound effect but no animation with maxwell yEs I know you use it in the inventory but they could make it like the cookbook) OOOOook time to sleep.
