I just replaced my Maytag washer (3.2 cu ft) and dryer with this set. This GE washer is supposed to be 4.2 cu ft but since the max water level only fills halfway up, I can't wash loads as large as I could with the old washer. I had the old W/D set for 26 years and moved several times. The washer transmission was starting to leak oil and the dryer also was getting noisy, so I thought I'd replace them before they died. I can already tell that this new GE W/D set isn't going to last nearly as long because it's not as well made as the old set in which mini and low water levels were useful. On the new machine, the low water level is only good for washing a couple handkerchiefs. The medium level isn't much better.

Thank you so much for this video and your other videos. I would actually be happy with a machine that got the water level in your video. Believe it or not, the water level you were able to get with this machine is the best I have seen in my research for a under $600 machine. The only ones that I found that fill to the top are the budget $400 Amana Roper etc, but they seem to fill all the way up even if there is only a very small load and I don't want to waste water either

Yes the old washing machines did not constantly start and stop. They washed the clothes vigorously with plenty of water for the clothes to move freely.

Be prepared to hurt your hand on the agitator trying to get your clothes in and out of the machine. Very poor design of agitator. The old type agitators were designed to clean the clothes and had a low profile agitator and I do not ever remember hurting my hand on the old agitator. You have to constantly remember to hold your hand against the side of the machine to stay out of the way of the bizarre design of the agitator. You will love the lid lock and battling to trying to keep the machine balanced because of the play in the drum area that holds the clothes. Since the machine is a little weight and with the play in the drum you have to make sure there that the clothes weigh the same on all sides of the machine as it gets out of balance very easily. The reality is this is how things are living in the world of new technology where you need to read a book to use appliances that should be easy to use. The name of the game is to keep the masses confused and busy reading their appliance manuals and trying to keep up with technology so we don't know what is really going on.

@@RiverRatHeather Yes it is very disappointing to put the dial on max water level only to find out the tub is only half full of water. I think this is much harder on your clothes when there is not enough water to wash your wash and rinse your clothes. Then of course there is the poor design of the fins that gave them an excuse to have a lid lock. Surprisingly there are people that are happy with this setup. To each his own. Sorry you are dealing with the same thing. The water level could be a contributing factor as to why the washer gets so easily out of balance along with the play in the drum and the light weight of the drum.

If I’m correct the deep rinse means that you will get a larger amount of water in the tub for your rinse

If that is true that takes the cake!!! So we humans don't need as much water to wash our dirty clothes but we at least have enough water to rinse our dirty clothes.

The Light Medium and Heavy cycle options dont refer to the weight of the load youre washing. Its just soiled the load is. If you have very dirty clothes choose heavy, barely dirty choose light. Basically heavy washes for longer than light and normal. As for water level. It does slightly vary between the Whites and Colors cycles. Colors seems to use a little less water than Whites. The Auto fill option (PreciseFill) for me is more accurate whenever i use any of the three Whites cycles. If i use it on the Colors cycles, it fills with very little water. By the way, small tip. Using any of the three Whites cycles uses warm/hot water (at least for me) no matter what you have it set to. Something about White clothing cleaning better in hotter water. If you know you wont be needing warm or hot water, its best you use Colors cycles instead.

Started using this machine this morning and its a bit of a headache to get used to as you know. May I ask why you always have it set to "whites" and not "colors"?
@bevyh1
@bevyh1 4 жыл бұрын
It depends on the load as to what I set it at. I leave it on whites when I have underwear, socks, towels and bedding in the machine. I use colors for colored shirts and jeans. Don't really know if leaving it on whites for towels helps the stains on hand towels or not, but that is my hope. If I left it on white for jeans or colored shirts then I made a mistake on that. Yes there is a learning curve and it is still frustrating that the washing machine not me decides how much water I'm allowed to have in the washing machine. It's a difficult world having appliances make decisions for us that we don't want. Thanks for watching.

I am on the market for a new top load washer with water level controls. I never thought it would be so difficult and frustrating to buy a washer! I had a Maytag that lasted a long time and I was so satisfied with! I went out and bought another Maytag, only to find out they don't make them like they used to anymore. I have already returned one because of unbearable, awful, grinding noise, not enough water (deep filling did not work), and extremely long cycles. Is it impossible to find a good, reliable top load washer with water level controls? Please help!

i'm in the same boat and it's not a good place to be. Yes the old Maytag brand was wonderful. I had a Maytag dishwasher but the new appliances decide for you how much water they will allow you to have. Basically it's the powers that be torturing us. Sorry I have no solutions to this crazy upside down world.

I previously had 2 GE top loaders. One bought back in 1986 when they still made them good. I replaced it in 2010 with another GE. I was told the one from 1986 could have been repaired easily when I said what it was doing, but it was already hauled away. The one I bought in 2010 was still made better than these. It just tore up in June 2021 so I got 11 years out of that one. It was still better than this one. I have had this one about three weeks and I had no idea went with GE again because the first one was awesome the second one was awesome for 11 years. This one, I do not like. My first set was 600.00 dollars got 25 years out of it. The second set was 800.00 and I got 11 years out of it. My new one (this washer) by the time I paid for electrical cords that were extra this time and delivery and haul away were 1,500.00. This one although more expensive is cheaply made crap. I have never had one that I couldn't get the water level I wanted. I have never before this one had a washer that after running a load have to put them in a bucket and wash the arm pits again. It doesn't get your clothes completely wet It does not push them under the water. Deodorant stain and perspiration odor still in the arm pits after the shirts finish washing. Never had that problem before and this set was more than twice the cost of my first set that did an excellent clean. Never until I bought this washer have the clothes come out needing a second wash and they don't even all get wet. .

I hope you can tell me if you think this machine gets out of balance more the other machines of this type. Based on this and your other videos, I would say that you are not very happy with your washer. Most of the complaints (noise, lid lock, water level) you and others have about the new generation of wash machines I agree with, but I have found that that is pretty much the way they all are now. However, one issue you have raised sticks out for me and that is the issue of problems with load balance. Can you tell me if this is a very frequent issue. I can live with strange noises and most of the other things (no choice) but I will definitely avoid this machine if it is constantly getting out of balance or shaking up the house. That would be a terrible inconvenience and time waster and probably damaging to the machine in the long run.
@bevyh1
@bevyh1 4 жыл бұрын
Yes I have had trouble with the washing machine getting out of balance. You have to be very careful to make sure you have equal weight on all sides as it will get out of balance very easily and if you have your washing machine in the basement like I do you may or may not be able to hear it when it gets out of balance. Also the lid lock takes its good ole time to release when you hit the pause button. So long that you think it is not going to release the lid so you can rearrange the clothes in the drum. I imagine there are plenty of people that get angry and rip the lid open and then the washer will not work and it will have to be repaired.

I think the biggest headache is the lid lock. It is forever getting out of balance so you hit pause and wait and wait til the lid lock decides when you can open the lid. Don't expect it to disengage the lid lock right away after you pause the spin, so you can try to balance the load. It takes it good ole time after the spin stops to release the lock. A real gem that is for sure but at least it is still running.

Have this washer it SUCKS. You want to fill it more when you start the load let it fill till it starts if you want more water? Turn the knob to a different cycle and back to the one you want that cancels it then when you hit start keep tapping it a bunch of times until it fills to the level you what . Only way I was able to get it to do this
@bevyh1
@bevyh1 Жыл бұрын
I have not tried that. I am concerned about the machine being able to function with the proper amount of water as there is a lot of play in the drum as it is a lightweight. I am grateful that it is still running and hasn't broken down yet.I have a feeling that the reason the machine don't allow proper levels of water is because it could be it can't manage a normal water level because of the weight of the water. The washer does seems to abnormally start and stop a lot as if to rest between agitations.
