Is there much evidence about men taking valproate and risk of learning difficulties in offspring?

Yes, a study suggested that the children of men who took sodium valproate in the 3 months before their partners became pregnant may be at an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders, compared to the children of men taking lamotrigine or levetiracetam (both epileptic drugs). However, there were flaws in the study, so it is going to be fully reanalysed. As soon as the results of the revised analysis are made available, the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) in the UK will scrutinise these, and if there is further guidance, it will be made available to patients as soon as possible.

Please check ammmonia level and platelets. I’ve seen so many cases of elevated ammonia levels connected to VPA.
