Exactly my point Love the swim bait tactic What brand of swim bait are those
@FishermansChronicles
@FishermansChronicles 9 ай бұрын
I use all sorts of swimbait brands, as long as they follow a general profile of 5 inches long and white. That has been the most effective for me with halibut, some brands I use are zman, candy bars, AA's, and some others. Brand doesnt matter much, just general profile and swimming it well

I feel the same way about the Hali fishery. I live in Humboldt County and ower bay is very small. Taking limits every day would end the Hali fishery here. Thank you for the wonderful information

Add regulations about the type of net required to net Halibut. This probably does more damage than anything. 😢😢

Awesome video and excellent halibut! I would like to know what rod and reel you use for halibut trolling because I want to get into it but not break the bank. im not sure if you remember but im the guy from the lost Anchovy Rockwall halibut tournament, I was wearing that green puffer. anyways it would be nicel to get some help with the rods and reels. Thanks for your time.

Hi! I would be happy to help! I am using the Ugly Stik 7'6 ML. It's about $60 and I love it. Perfect for norcal fishing. Good seeing you at the tournament!

Hope you can do something on the Stripers too. I got into them in the early 70's, these guy's use to pull up 30 pounders from the beach, haven't seen anything over 8 pounds these days & only started to see them comeback. We use to be able to catch a Bullhead on every casts, I haven't seen a Bullhead in 15 years. I hope that butt woman can set up something with you, that would be informational. Good Job.

Yeah, I've heard legends of bay area striper fishing in the 60s and 70s. Such a shame. Unfortunately, the "Butt girl" got back to me and said that she needed permission from CDFW to come out and fish with me, and that would require a lot of paperwork, so it wont be happening :(

Great information!! Newb/dumb question here... Couldnt you just cut the head off immediately or is that not recommended for whatever reason? Would seem easier than fishing around for the brain.
@FishermansChronicles

Thank you! I believe cutting the head off is illegal. That makes sense because it makes borderline legal halibut difficult to measure for CDFG

Do you have a link for your Ike Jime tool? Also, you should add salt water to your ice for your slurry, the slurry will get sub zero and keep your fish colder.

It’s still 5 per day in So Cal … I believe the decreased number of fish is mainly due to all the laws to protect seals and sea lions which over consume fish and have little to no predators regulating them.. And the fact that our state changes laws in certain areas is BS and needs immediate attention
@FishermansChronicles
@FishermansChronicles Жыл бұрын
I disagree, it’s definitely the humans over consuming fish and not the seals and sea lions, which are the fishes natural predators. Also, seals and sea lions do have natural predators 🦈. In norcal, the decrease in fish is being caused by an increased fishing effort on the halibut fishery because the salmon season is closed for the year. The amount of boats fishing for halibut now are unlike previous years. As the halibut expert in the video commented, last time the salmon season was shut down in 2008-2009, halibut numbers entered a 6 year low period, that had nothing to do with seals and sea lions, strictly direct influence from fishermen and cold water conditions (which we are experiencing once more now)
@addicted2fishing119
@addicted2fishing119 Жыл бұрын
@@FishermansChronicles I disagree 🍻 All love though, sharks and orca do not hunt as much as we’d like to believe, they only pick off weak, or wounded.. I’ve never had an orca or shark steal my catch, opposite for the sea hyenas I grew up in Oceanside, used to be great fishing until the sea dogs decided to make it a permanent home, now no fish

That’s strange that regulation changes arent clearly communicated. Here in Oregon the ODFW has a specific Regulation Updates page for changes that occur after the annual regulation books are posted and you can sign up for email notifications as well. I get them almost daily. Its on the public to be sure they are up to date but they also make it pretty easy here to find the info, as they should.
@nomadhomad3685
@nomadhomad3685 Жыл бұрын
The info is all there, but the State expects you to dig into it and be on top of the regulations. Having worked public relations in wildland management, I find this lack of essential communication highly embarrassing and concerning; and this occurs EVERYWHERE not just CA, from my experience. I'm glad to see Oregon is on top of that though. Each year Oregon always seems like the best place to move lol.

DFW seems comfortable always being a day late and a dollar short in many aspects of what they do. I’m guessing they are getting pushback from party boat captains and the like regarding the proposed limit reduction. The answer to most questions is money. Goes all the way down to deck hands who get paid for each fish they clean…a third of their fish cleaning income will vanish mid season if limit reduction is imposed. Bottom line: DFW has not handled this well going back to their mismanagement of water flows, unforced errors that killed salmon smolts which in turn contributed to the reasons DFW cancelled the entire salmon season this year. Then, irresponsibly, even with statistical knowledge of a six-year dip in halibut populations following the circa 2008 DFW salmon season closure (according to Butt Girl) DFW shockingly waited to the middle of the annual halibut run to impose a limit reduction, information about which they have poorly disseminated. C’mon man!

If you want to set people up, this is how you do it….. as they are requesting more and more agents… If they didn’t stop salmon altogether, halibut wouldn’t be being recorded. Now all the people recording at every marina, record halibut and rock fish. Rockfish are hard to identify as you probably know, sometimes.
