@@jaimeduncan6167 I will have two X1D2's eventually but won't pull that trigger until I can replace the 907x as well - wedding shooter here - in the Bridal Boudoir, or bedroom on the day the 907 is king - as it is just so small - I have a specially adapted Hasselblad hood for it replete with a Hass badge on the front - looks cools as mustard - I also adapted the finder optic bracket as a mount for a strobe commander -be warned you can get it stuck!!!! What a thing of beauty and comparative simplicity ! Many thanks for the detailed exposition. It immediately answered two concerns I had raised with dealers in the UK but got no clarity from. The first concerned weather sealing on lenses and the body. The dealers didn't know - perhaps because they don't have a copy yet. It appears that the system can now be used like the GFX for outdoor and mountain photography. The second concerned the customisable nature of moving the single AF point. Shooting landscape I don't mind that there is just one point. This video has allayed my concern about a cumbersome and silly system of only using the touch screen to adjust position when using the EVF. It appears I will be fine to use the command dials but it is still far less convenient than a decent joy stick as per SL2. Loud applause to Hasselblad for putting the higher magnification and higher resolution EVF in. Completely retrograde of Fuji to equip the 100s with the noticeably inferior version. I had the 100 and enjoyed its EVF far more than the low res bunged into the 100S. If you don't use the lCD for most framing and composition or checking the EVF quality is important. Is the experience of looking through this eVF comparable to the superb implementation in SL2 ? The new lenses once again look like wonderful instruments.

The X2D looks stunning! I lust for one. I don’t know if it’s such a bad thing it doesn’t have video. Video would have meant a more cluttered design and it seems the rolling shutter is quite severe on that 100mp sensor. Not everything has to be hybrid and nobody would dream of complaining about an Arri cinema camera not being able to shoot stills.
@nelsonclub77222 жыл бұрын
Its a camera for stills for sure - MF video was a bit foa miss due to its high res and as you say rolling shutter artefacts - not having to have the heatsink for video is prob how they freed up space for a 1tb internal memory??? Although unclear on that as long exposure might use same power???

I am more attracted to hassleblad than Fuji in terms of the design and its simplicity, and the leaf shutter is just an amazing thing, I have it on my Bronica GS1 and is perfect to damp the mirror slap or just use MLU or to sync flash. The only thing that blocks me for the moment is the price (need to sell a lot of my film and digital gear to get the camera and 2 lenses) and the fact that I just purchased a second hand D850 for half the price with only 450 shutter count !
@Maxime-ho9iv2 жыл бұрын
You forgot to mention one of the biggest features: the EVF has x1.0 magnification, this is absolutely gorgeous. Also, we really have to wait for the Eye-AF to be released and how fast it will be. Now that we have so much megapixels in those cameras, the quality of the image depends a lot on lenses and AF performance. This is even more true since megapixels is not an issue for landscape or anything still: I can use my fullframe camera and a tripod and make a 1000Mp image if I want to.

I see a lot of mathphotographer videos, chiefly those relating to Hasselblad X2D and X1Dii as well as Leica M and Leica Q. I very much look forward to a video on Hasselblad 907x 50c camera .... ! As the moniker would suggest, these videos are clinically precise. The videos also tend to judge a camera or lens on its own merits, seldom drawing a direct comparison with another brand. All of that is for the good. But sometimes, not having the variety that our friend mathphotographer has, whether a particular camera is preferable to another with similar specs though vastly different prices. Or to put the question in a rather pedestrian fashion: how much is one paying for the brand, and is it wholly or partially worth it in terms of quality of construction and reliability in use?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Great video!! -> My main question was the older xcd 35-70 and you did that. Does that zoom have a rubber gasket (sorry to ask if you covered this in a prior video, but don't recall it coming up)? I assume you can set the front trigger area ring to aperture and the rear to shutter and then do perhaps auto ISO? I like to shoot "manual" in this manner.... May I ask you to please do some example photos with that zoom? Do you have a L bracket that will work with the camera. I use L brackets to protect the body more than anything else to be honest....to not worry...
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeffrey, so many questions :) I use L-brackets sometimes but not on the X2D yet, so will have to watch out for that. I am happy to shoot the X2D with older XCD lenses like the XCD 35-75 and posting them then on the channel. The XCD 35-75 has a rubber sealing on the mount side like all XCD lenses. The X1D system and the X2D system are fully weather sealed.

Another wonderful look at the camera...it's funny the fact that this is a Sony sensor..makes you think...Fuji should has been in their own lane when it comes to "medium format" and "aps-c" for a long time..but in the sense if Sony wanted to go "after them" in the medium format game..they absolutely can and this "sensor" shows that they have the tech if they wanted to..but maybe the body design is still getting worked on if or when they will ever make a Sony Medium Format Camera..in my opinion maybe they should..because lets say some Sony photographers want to move up to "Medium Format" and if there no choice inside the Sony line..people will jump to Fuji for that need...business wise your going to lose some people in that sense, why not keep them in the Sony "camp" and have that "Medium Format" line...Fuji is probably not worried for now..but they know Sony maybe developing something in the future..I hope they do..

Hi Math, would you care to make a video on-using the Nikon SB700 or similar with the X2D. The confusing is caused by Nikons clever flash settings and metering modes. Basically I would like to underexpose the ambient exposure in Manual exposure mode by about 2 stops and not have that ever changed by any of Nikons optional settings unless I change it on purpose. It appears that depending on your camera metering mode you could end up using Standard TTL or TTL -BL which both want to interfere with the ambient exposure which is not what I want to happen. Once my ambient is fixed, I now wish to add TTL flash to expose my subjects face correctly, this is the method I use for my Sony cameras and Godox speedlights. Which method of On camera TTL flash do I choose, also which X2D metering mode do I use ? Apparently the X2D metering mode dictates the whether I use Standard TTL or TTL-BL, I am so confused and many others like me, can you please help? I do wish hasselblad could use Godox flash and not use 😮Nikons complicated system. Regards Michael

Awesome, thank you so much! We know the read-out on the sensor is the same as GFX 100s, and without a mechanical shutter the results will be just like the X1D II when adapting lenses, which is only useful for static scenes. Would love if you have any older XCD lenses to test AF, or if you could even show a bit more on 35-75 AF performance. Perhaps one of the older, slower generation of XCD lenses like the 80 1.9 / 65 2.8..? I'm curious to see how the improvement is when racking focus from minimum to infinity. Have you heard anything about how a cable release is supposed to work with no microphone port?
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
Not heard about the cable. What I will test next weeks is the read out time of the new sensor, really curious to test eShutter etc
@davidcr4872 жыл бұрын
I believe they want you to use Phocus mobile 2 to do cable release via the USB-C port. That is probably superior. The X1D has a different implementation than the X1DII and the remote shutter release was a bit strange. I have done a ton of testing. I think they tried to use some aspects of the headphone jack to make the remote shutter release and I bet it had to be implemented differently with each mechanical jack and headphone chip. (X1D required like 500 Ohms and X1DII required like 10 Ohms to trigger the shutter.) Also, having used the headphone jack for timelapses with the Pluto trigger on the X1D I can tell you it is strangely unreliable. (1 out of 100 shots simply doesn’t trigger)
@davidcr4872 жыл бұрын
Perhaps adding a segment where you use the iPhone version of Phocus to trigger the camera to show the remote release that way?
@AG-sh2nk2 жыл бұрын
I would like to have you confirm what happens when you are in manual focusing mode and set the focus to a certain distance per the focusing distance scale and then turn off the camera. When you turn it on again, I’m assuming that the camera stays in the same manual focus distance position? I’m also assuming that the new lenses have a manual focusing “hard stop”, otherwise the first question - for the camera to turn on and off and maintain the same focal distance - would not be possible? Thank you.

Also I am very sad that Hasselblad got rid of the mic port because I use it all the time for my remote release cable, that's my only thing I do not like about the new camera. Also I would love if you could somehow show the reaction time to take a photo vs the old cameras and the blackout time. I know this is alot to ask but I would really love to see this. You also mentioned that the new lenses have 1/4000th of a second shutter speed but correct me if I'm wrong but that's only in regards to the new 90mm 2.5 and not the 38mm/55mm. Ohh lastly I guess could you also comment about the weight of the camera vs the x2d? Is it noticeable? Thanks so much, you are one of my favortie/trusted reviewers. I like you cause you are as nerdy as I. - Peace from Paris, Matthew

I do hope the improve eye af with later firmware as well as L-M-S RAW options. I wished that Sony buy Hasselblad to have best technic and best colors finally merged together. One thing I would have like to see was a sensor protection curtain. On real use documentary , journalistic work the sensor will get very dirty and with that big sensor and 100mp resolution it will be even more evident...what do u think?
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
Yes - I would have loved to see a sensor protection curtain like we have it in the Nikon Z9, spot-on comment.

I don’t think you will ever get binned RAW files. That doesn’t seem to be Hasselblad’s ethos. I would be happy with just a lossy RAW setting of any type. I doubt it will happen. (I actually looked into making GoPro’s wavelet-based GPR standard work on recompressing Hasselblad files. It worked but had some issues with the 16 bit channels. ) Regarding the curtain, the only thing you can do with these cameras is to pick a lens and stick with it. You can’t switch lenses in the field. It is way too risky. Unfortunate but that kind of tech is very difficult to implement and the quantities on these cameras is just too small.

Thank you for your excellent review. Do you believe that a future firmware upgrade will incorporate the ibis system to bring multi shot capability to the x2d?

Thank you Matt. You didn't mention anything about live view histogram which has been missing in both X1ds. I was hoping they have it in this model.

Can someone share what is the difference between the AF point "Small" & "Large" and which one to select when shooting between portraits/glamour and nature/landscapes?

Hello, how do you think this system compares to the phase one iq4 150 in terms of perceptive resolution and sharpness. Is the phase one really THAT much better?
@jaimeduncan61672 жыл бұрын
Here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rXWWcqFmbs2goLc. I hope it helps, but the difference in price is so wide, it's difficult to compare them, and the X2D is not going to help you with film for example.
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
Phase One IQ4 is unbeatable in terms of sharpness and image quality, nothing comes close. But the price tag for an IQ4 is 50k - also an unbeatable price tag ;)

Thanks for the excellent video! Would love to see a tips and tricks video. I have the X2D and 38V on order. I didn't feel compelled to get the 55V because it's fairly close in focal length to the 38V and with the crop ability of the X2D I think I can make do with the 38mm (and pick up the 90V when it becomes available). Did you see any performance difference between the 38V and the 55V? Regarding the electronic shutter, I had read that the rolling shutter effect is lessened when you shoot in 14 v. 16 bit mode. Wonder if there is any truth to that? Last question - you seemed to have gotten nice depth of field shooting at f/8 with the the 55mm in the first panorama you show - can you let us know where your focus point was? Thanks!!

Great review as always! I am curious if Hasselblad designed the 3 new lenses to resolve greater detail than the previous generation?
@mathphotographer2 жыл бұрын
I think they made them primarily new for matching the new Phase Detection AF. The former XCD lenses can all resolve 100MP easily, I am sure but will try out.

Why they don’t make a span adapter that come with pogo pin to identify the lens and some connection deceive to see if the lens is focusing( make the view finder get x3/x6 view just like some Sony camera)

Hey math great video. Don’t know if you still have the x2d. Wondering if you noticed any side to side lens mount play between the camera and XCD lens when mounted?
@mathphotographer Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind feedback. And yes, I notice whenever I change lenses. Almost all XCD lenses when mounted on the X1DII sit firmly and have no play whereas on the X2D there is always a little play and it does not sit as firmly as on the X1DII. Does not bother me but its noticeable.

I bought the XD2 and 3.5/45XCD in march and after 3 months I have screen burn in on EVF of the info display. Also seems like heavy vignetting. Anyone else have these issues?
