NEW Honda Civic Type R MOD | Exhaust PREP

I'm no physics expert, but doesn't the resonator work based on differential pressure? And removing the mufflers would cause that differential pressure to change? So I'm guessing less differential pressure now that the air flows more freely? And then the resonator might not be able to do what it was supposed to do? Or less effective perhaps? So maybe a louder drone during cruise or something? Maybe someone who's done the muffler delete can enlighten us?

not too sure, I did get an A in Thermodynamics, but I think it has more to do with flow differential. If the other two pipes flow faster than the middle pipe it will cause a vacuum to form, making the middle one suck air in. The main thing that will make this happen is that smaller pipe connecting the middle rear resonator to the Y pipe of the exhaust. Making that smaller makes the pressure difference more pronounced. I think removing the mufflers will actually make it suck in MORE air, not sure how this will affect the sound, but only one way to find out!

FlyinGato That's also quite possible. Maybe it compensates for the faster air flow without the mufflers and the result is still the same, thus still quiet at high speeds. Oh well like you said....only one way :-)

While you were under the car, did you notice if the exhaust tips can b easily removed? Or are they welded on to the pipes?

The gas tank is bigger than you specified.. it actually goes over the heat shield and to the other side. It spans the whole width of the car.

Can't wait to hear the outcome. When do you plan on getting this done? I think it'll be a few years before a NICE sounding exhaust isn't crazy expensive. Everyone is taking advantage of the hype of the vehicle and the let down of the exhaust tone. Knowing that people are desperate to customize the exhaust and will pay the premium to do so right now.

Thermal system too raspy for you? That “crackle” sound on the shift sounds pretty nice. Very reminiscent of the MB performance exhaust.

It would been nice if Honda would have offered a sporty exhaust system kinda like how Subaru does with their STIs. Could have been another option. I like the idea of a deep throaty exhaust. Best 4 cylinder exhaust I ever heard came from back when I was in college. This dude had this nice Integra Type R and he had a mean sounding exhaust. It didn't sound like it had an exhaust leak like so many of the "fart cans" do. It was deep and angry.

Ive only owned 4cyl my whole life. 99 si , 02 rsx type s etc.. and ya, the exhaust was always the hardest mod for me as well. Hard to find that sweet spot for sound. FlyinGata /Alias Kool FYI. I don't think the OEM stock exhaust for the CIVC TYPE R sounds bad.. I would recommend not modifying the stock exhaust at all, due to its unique oem build. Instead solicit/engage known aftermarket exhaust makers like NAMELESS/COBB/FUJITSUMO/HKS /ETS etc.and have them send you they're finished product hopefully free or get it at a discounted rate in exchange for your KZbin's channel promotion. Put your stock exhaust up for a rainy day, like you know the stock exhaust and its components can be very expensive to purchase. Just my nickel on the issue.

I like the way you think, but I can always just weld the mufflers back onto the exhaust if I ever wanted to make it stock. I wish there were good, inexpensive options out now. The problem with getting sponsors is that I am brutally honest, and if their product is terrible, I would have to say it.

Go ahead an remove second resonator (One closes to the straight pipe) leave the main one should be able to get some deeper sound out of it along with your mufflers deleted...and if you still don't like how it sounds you can always put it back in

It would be better sounding if you install 2 free flow after market mufflers to get that deep but louder sounding exhaust. I think replacing the two stock mufflers with two he same lenght would create a great sounding type R.

Hey man fellow type R owner here. Do you remember the size of the exhaust pipe that goes into and out of the muffler? Or the size your buddy used and welded in for you? Looks like maybe 1.25-1.5 to me. Just want to get the pieces I need to do this.

There's aftermarket thicker rear sway bars and matching chassis connector rods for the non Type R Civics. If I get an Si, I may not even need them, or bother with the front strut tower brace. Maybe an short intake would make the exhaust louder, or at least have more turbo intake sound. I heard the Hondata should take care of the rev hang problem, and the Boomba Racing torque dampener/bottom engine mount helps to deal with the wheel hop. They also have a billet aluminum wastegate with that traditional tuner car turbo sound, and nice matching billet aluminum battery hold down and coolant filler cap in anodized silver, red, blue, or black. The exhaust is high quality, but nit loud enough, if only it was louder, and all polished stainless steel pipes and mufflers like Borla makes. At least the stock exhaust is hard to steal. I know people keep stealing the exhaust systems from new Teslas... :P

That's a tough choice, but I would probably keep the Elise to be honest with you. The Elise is a rarer car. Sure, it's tough as a daily driver, and the Elise probably isn't that much fun around town, where the Type R would be, but if you have other cars to daily drive, I would keep the Elise!

So mad at that promo video from Honda that made the CTR sound like a 5 Cylinder...I know it was impossible but didn't think the end result would be this underwhelming...like you say the low end growl is not bad. Just too quiet in the midrange and above.

Hey Elias, I honestly think the last exhaust shown as example (reso deleted and muffler deleted) sounds the best (deep, aggressive, and loud turbo spool) and would be a relatively cheap alternative to a very expensive full exhaust system. IMO 😎@flyingato

You almost gonna say just the sound of the EJ motors with UEL headers.RUMBLESS.so whatever exhaust you put on that typeR will still sound like a fartcan or raspy drony if resonator/muffler deleted.if you digging that deep throaty rumble sounds you shouldve get 2015+ sti instead and you wont be worry on any exhaust you put in it since the rumble will always be there.
