Nobody asked for the European Union to implement stricter emission regulations either which is said to be even tougher in July 2025. Car manufacturers are trying to work around it so we are in that transitional phase, that's why MB has gone down this same road. This is the result of that. All curb weights have gone up for production cars... 1. Crash safety requirements and structural reinforcement adds weight. 2. Buyers want all the latest technological gadgets and add-ons options as standard, those add weight. 3. Buyers want all the luxurious amenities like 8-way seats, heated seats and steering wheel in winter, air-cooled seats in the summer, entertainment for backseat passengers, etc... And it adds even more weight.
