New hybrid drone transforms into life buoy to rescue drowning swimmers

A Chinese company has developed a drone that will transform rescue operations on the open water. The drone is manufactured by Didiok Makings, and can perform in high winds and operated remotely up to a half a mile (1 kilometer) away.

It's a great idea but as an industrial designer, I can already see all kinds of ways to improve on it . Simple ropes around it like those traditional floatation devices. My point is we can work with the Chinese and don't necessarily have to fear the competition. Good ideas are everywhere but to perfect an idea, takes experience and in-depth know how. Chinese firms reach out to us with design help all the time. They are not shy about their shortcomings so why should we? Turn fear into cooperation and to quote their favourite saying, "let's win win together" and truly make this a better world for all of us.

well i dont think this is like the final final design of the product, all products go through evolutions ie iphones.... of course things can be iterated upon, its what design is about... there is an interesting video documentary floating about on youtube.... yrs old now maybe 10 15 20yrs.... it was out about the same time or before the fella that made his own iphone in shenzhen with 3.5mm jack! it was a western speaking chinese fella talking about shenzhen and in general chinese industry and the subject of "IP" or "trademarks" or the purposes of trademarks used / employed in the West! obviously as a creator / creative i was agreeing as well as disagreeing with the idea! The Western corps big corps like MS / Google / Apple grow BIG and stay BIG because they have the resources to gobble up the smaller indie studios and their "IPs" and or "trademarks" The big corp sit on these "ips" "trademarks" maybe never to use them to only snare other companies into paying royalties or whatever etc if you look at say BYD / CATL battery tech the Chinese companies ALL seem to share knowledge and the same advancement is spread across industries! i cant remember the doc... it was fascinating and interesting and well Chinas Shenzhen is basically HKs ShamShui Po area and Golden Market on steroids! heck ALL of China is like this!

Western competitors can make an advance or two, but compare that progress to robot demonstrations coming out of China. The Chinese demo incorporated several new advances at the same time.
