I find IHG points to be far more valuable than Hilton. Most of the time I’m seeing Hilton at about 0.3 whereas plenty of IHG are 0.6 or higher, especially with that 4th night free

yeah I dd the math on a recent stay I used and came up with .65 cents per point. which x5 isn't bad at all 3.25 cents per restaurant dollar. almost as good as the guaranteed 3.75 cents from using chase preff for hotels. Better than 2.8 cents from restuarant amex gold when used for hotels.

@@jonuiuc yep I just got roughly 0.97 cents per point at a IHG hotel in Mexico City. The room had two gigantic king beds, amenities included a huge gym, sauna, and gigantic pool. I only used 20K of my 150K bonus on four nights. The points are very valuable I think people are undervaluing them in my opinion.

I've stayed maybe 30 nights at IHGs as a platinum member and 2 times they said "thank you for being a platinum member" and I've never been upgraded.

While increasing the points earned for other categories is definitely an enhancement, the new Premier is a downgrade for those attempting to reach top IHG status imo. Previously, points earned on the Premier counted toward your total Elite Qualifying Points (EQP) needed to reach higher status. Thus, the 10x points earned by using your card on room bookings basically doubled the EQP you earned from any given stay (in addition to the 10x you earn for being a IHG club member). Now they’ve removed that feature and increased the EQP needed to reach top status, so you’ll need to spend ~$12k at IHG hotels (absent any promotions) to reach top status, whereas you could probably reach it with around $3-4k spend on your card previously.

I'd drop it. Looking at the benefits for Marriot card vs the Amex Plat, the Plat gives a bunch of stuff already and also matches them with Hilton. For $99 a year to get Plat status at IHG plus some nice perks with it, that seems an easy win.

Late response but, I have both cards and I was able to get two economy tickets from Boston to the Philippines for free using the preferred. As for the ihg premier I used the sign up bonus for a two week stay at different locations in Japan. Really good card since every 4th night is free when you use your point, so in my opinion it's really worth it. I am planning to get the Hyatt card next since I see ihg hotels are better outside the U.S than in the states.

yes because it's an actual chase card. it's not a Chase BP card if you asked about the Bp which isn't on chases website it's not a real chase card that would be different but this card counts as a actual Chase card.
