This would be cool, but the developers have said several times that they don’t want the warden to drop anything, to not provide any reason to hunt out the warden, so most likely this will not be the case. They want you to try to avoid the warden if possible while traveling through the city, so maybe this key might be contained in a structure in the middle of the city, to prompt you to try to find it and open the portal.

My theory is that you have to kill the warden for the portal to activate and when you have killed the warden you can open the portal with some loot that comes from the warden. With that you can activate the portal which will spawn a new boss never seen before. And it will be the strongest in the game. The warden is just warmup. I think this is a long shot but nothing is impossible...

Since Mojang hired the same developers that made the Aether Portal mod, Mojang stated, " to collaborate with them in the future in a similar project," so maybe this could lead to a portal related to the Aether
