Sam, further to my previous comments about the Deltic, mine has arrived and it looks and runs fabulously (it's DCC and the crawl is awesome). I had a small problem, in that some of the absolutely tiny steps at the corner of the body became detached and went missing when I first ran it. I emailed Accurascale last night (Saturday) at around 22.30 asking about the problem, fully expecting the same reply I had from Hornby - namely that they don't carry small spares and can't help. Two hours later at 00.30 on a SUNDAY morning I received a reply telling me that they would be dispatching the parts and I would receive them shortly. I'm flabbergasted by this, and truly hope that Accurascale thrive - fabulous products, great prices and excellent service. In case you're wondering, I have no connection whatsoever to Accurascale other than as a satisfied customer.

As a Midland and Western transition era modeller the Manor was the first Accurascale locomotive I ordered. Having seen the deltic features I had to order Brush type two 5544. When Accurascale get round to producing the centre headcode "Welsh" locos I will be ordering a couple of green ones. However, should Accurascale choose to produce a Landore allocated blue 37 with the "car headlight bracket" for the Central Wales line, then I will not be able to resist !!!!

Hi, I'm keen on the Manor too. Absolutely agree with everything you say. Overpriced and inconsistent quality from the 'Big two'' is not going to bode well. This Deltic looks fantastic. Tempted...

I doubt that, but it may make them up their game. That's good, out of business isn't, as less competition always leads to higher prices and less choice. I am also sceptical about how long Rapido and Accurascale can / will keep pricing this low.

Hugely impressive effort and result from Accurascale. I have seen a few videos of the DCC version and the sounds are very authentic. I would have no objection to parting with £260 for that version given that other companies are asking as much as that or more for locos that are not built nearly as well. Everything about this, from the packaging, finish, detail, loco information and performance talks volumes about a company that is clearly determined to produce top quality, top performing products at top value prices. The only downsides weee the coupling issue which probably means this was tested on Accurascale wagons and coaches but not other makers and not supplying instructions on taking off the body- bet that will lead to a few ruined bodies needing replacing. I have every confidence Accurascale will address these issues very soon. In conclusion, the other manufacturers in the industry need to up their game and take this very seriously. Great news for the enthusiasts!

Hornby? Bachman? You taking notes? A Class A locomotive that doesn't cost a fortune to be good. A stunning example of you get what you pay for minus the coupling issues. The crawl could be better but to me is dismissible as it is an express loco for main line passenger service. An excellent model that blows to shame the lemons from Hornby, Bachman, Dapol, and Heljan.

I think this is one of those models that signals a changing of standards, and goes so far above and beyond in level of detail that previous 5 star level of detail models would no longer make 5 stars in comparison. Other models now have to measure up to this to get 5 stars.
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
I think so too - this is the first time I've seen a model of this detail with quality to match it... there's room for improvement, but it sure hits the spot for £160 Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@bow-tiedengineer44532 жыл бұрын
@@SamsTrains definitely room for improvement on quality, but the level of detail felt head and shoulders over many of the models that got 5 stars from you over the years. The only detail features I think I've ever seen of heard of that this model didn't execute excellently were pre installed crew and rotating fans, and both of those are things I can only remember seeing a few times ever. There are a few things they included that I've only seen in reviews you've done in the past year or so, like the etched metal steps and the real dangling chains, plus some other rare and well executed detail features like the etched metal builder's plate accessories and the internal lighting. You've mentioned a couple times in the past that what you count as 5 stars has shifted a bit, and I think the requirements for 5 stars might have to shift up a bit further now that we have models like this to compare to.

Just received a sound version of The Durham Light Infantry. As you show, the detail is incredible and far superior to that any other manufacturer has produced. The sound is impressive and the decoder allows more lighting control. I agree that the weight of the engine affects the slow speed running, however, that's not really a problem for me with an express locomotive. For £250, sound fitted, including postage, this is the best value locomotive I have bought, especially when I compare it to the £217 that Hornby are asking for their DCC ready Class 91. (I paid £200, with postage from a retailer and had to send it back for exchange due to incorrect gauge leading to derailing on points... poor quality control). Accurascale is clearly leading a change in standards that other manufacturers will have to follow.

Bonus Brownie Points to the small model companies like Accurascale and Rapido to push the boundaries for a high detailed ready to run locomotive. These seem to be a steal at £160 before the inflation bubble expanded, and an even better price still today post covid and the extreme costs from the other top four manufacturers, especially Hornby. Got to say your reviews do highlight the pro and cons and this Class 55 Deltic doesn't escape your keen eye and testing of rolling stock. For your slow speed crawl test, are you using a back-EMF controller? This will always give better results on any loco for slow speed crawl. A non-back-EMF controller is more likely to show the jerking you see. My Deltic is the DCC sound version, and since the fitted decoder uses back-EMF control, the crawl speed is incredibly slow and does not jerk like you were seeing.

The only slight doubt with the conclusion that other manufacturers will need to up their games on detail/quality and lower their prices to match Accurascale's is the lack of supply of Accurascale's locos. Accurascale sold out of the Deltic class 55s immediately upon release! Perhaps they will make more stock available as they grow. Had this been at 200 GBP, we would have believed it as well Sam, had it not have the issues you've mentioned. However, certainly the commitment to quality can clearly be noticed to even its packaging. For us, quality has always been numero uno ‘painstakingly’ seriously. Two instant critical notes would be the plastic clicked base plates and removal of the body. The first issue isn’t exactly something we would cheer for. Plastic clips will break and usually will do over time; a grossly missed opportunity (would be a harsh no no for us). Perhaps these detailed models aren’t meant to be taken apart but then they do supply an exploded diagram of parts… hmm. One should be able to conduct DIY maintenance. Just a screw somewhere at the bottom in the middle of the chassis would simply have sufficed, as well as screwed (metal!) base plates. For the couplings, you should compare to the NEM 360 standards (height). It appears that not all OO brands have conformed to it exactly (except Hornby). Hence, which one exactly is the non-compliant culprit. On the whole, this one certainly is great value for its money, we thought, and Accurascale might improve on the rather serious issues (for us that is) in time perhaps.
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын

Hey Sam, now that you have gotten better with the 3D printer, why not try something to fix the coupling issue? The Deltic's couplings are too high and it's not the first company to do that, so while this may not change the fact Accurascale botched the couplings, have you ever thought about making a converter wagon with one end a standard height coupling and the other a coupling slightly higher for models with higher couplings? Or a wagon that has adjustable couplings for whenever that rare problem comes about?

So I have one question about the coupling issue if it is so common among manufacturers to have such issues with it why don’t they switch to a new coupling. You could definitely design something stronger to put in the same mount.

I really wanna get 55022 royal Scots grey because that was a heymarket depo one and is actually preserved by the srps

Great review Sam, Superb model, i would like one in black livery, the couplings are a bit of a let down if you don't upgrade to something better, maybe they could put some Kaydee or hunt couplings in with the loco. I hope they do a class 66 and maybe a motorised breakdown crane.

Been waiting for this review Sam ever since it was announced. Looks as good as the promise. All for £160 wow. These were the premier loco from my youth. Use to see them storming through cadwell crossing in Herts and that incredible sound. I have a querie, on the dcc sound is it the same as the full size loco or is it a generic diesel sound does anyone know?

Puttering around the Internet looking for couplers for a Bachmann loco - came across Bachmann 36-027 OO Gauge Short Cranked NEM Coupling. The tension lock is cranked down .. might work to fix the Deltic coupling issue?

hi sam great video,i think this sounds the death sentance for the hornby deltic. will save up for one
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Peter - oh yeah, the Hornby Deltic is an utter, utter ripoff, when you can pay £70 more and get this instead... no comparison! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

The creep on that allows far easier coupling up than the real locos. They are a nightmare to pull away. Hold on straight air, apply power, waiting for the current to rise, then release the straight air before the over current cutout trips.

Most enjoyable Sam - a great review - so not quite a gold medal but close (and miles ahead of Hornby for less cash). Hoping that the Class 37 due soon (we are told) improves on this little niggles....
@SamsTrains2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Michael - I think we can still say this is the best new model of the last year or two. The 37 ought to be something pretty special if it's like this! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

is there a way to remove the coupling and replace it with a Hornby one or modify it?

Would you consider doing the Accurascale Class 92 at some point? I'm planning on getting one but I need your wise words before I do.

Sure! I'll probably cover all of their engines! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Nice review sam, are these all sold out? Or are they still in stock? Would love a deltic for my mainline

i was looking to get one but it said they were all sold out, for a brand new loco its not a bad price!

Amazing model. But it deserves a sound module to hear the unique deltic sound!

I wait the review with a sense of excitement but fear - will it pass the SAMS TRAIN'S tests ? I'm awaiting their Class 37 and next years Class 31... fingers crossed !!

@Sam’sTrains Really wonderful model! But really shame that you didnt bought the Porterbrook Deltic, also made by Accurascale, because it is the most beautiful Deltic available (imo). But, tbh, I have to say that I’m really disappointed during the livestream because my chat didnt get your attention despite the patience I mustered. Can I advise you to impress me (and other unfortunate people) on the next livestream, like the model you’ve reviewed today? I’m expecting big things from you.

Did you know that Audrey's original model of T&F James was the model used for the Hornby James

Yeah I did - it's pretty cool isn't it?! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)

@@SamsTrains You can say that the Hornby James was accurate to Audrey's model

I do wonder how on earth they manage it for the price. Do you think they have kept the price low to get their name established? I suspect that at least some of the problems with the couplings can be overcome by owners without too much effort. Yes, in an ideal world it should not be necessary but..... By the way, I would prefer having extreme pulling power over a really slow speed crawl but that is just me!.

Hey Sam I’ve seen your Thomas Ho scale train videos and I was wondering if your still giving any Ho scale Thomas trains away!
