I love Ricky Gervais and the old podcasts, but its nice to see a long interview where Karl can speak without having the piss ripped out of him every sentence. Great podcast.

Truly it is, love XFM and his work with Ricky & Steve, but to hear him elaborate on stories we've heard before is really quite interesting and sweet.

Karl gives me so much hope for ‘normal’ people. He had no proper education at all, to the extent he says he spent so much time in Wales as a child he’s surprised he’s not Welsh. He is so acerbic, so straight forward, ridiculously dry. He has 100 throw away one liners which are infinitely funnier than anything any professional comedian has ever managed to put together. I can listen to the XFM shows and podcasts that I’ve heard every single line a thousand times before and I still laugh out loud without fail.

He is extremely intelligent and quick witted. The only thing he lacks is the vocabulary. Compared to Ricky and Steve for example. Karl always comes out with quite profound anaolgies on the spot.

that last sentence is really on point. heard it all a thousand times yet its still beyond hilarious. a small break of 2 weeks is enough to reset the Karl laugh counter.

he is so real. just like you, just like me. He is a normal guy who was a jammy bastard to be a producer on a radio show and then of all people was asked to work a cpl of shifts with steve and ricky, not knowing how much ricky was going to take to him, and basically change his life. BUT Karl's original and one-off personality was why he then went supernova. in one or 2 of ricky's standups, in europe, england, america when he mentions karl, the audience cheer loud as hell, if Karl was just a faker he would be getting an agent and doing more tv stuff for money. But he is real and he is not some made up character, i think thats why he's so loved

When people are in a doctor's waiting room, they won't look at each other. But they will look at a small child or a dog - because they are more interesting than anyone else. Why? Because they have no filter - you are just watching them live in the moment. It is the authenticity and everything that comes with it that makes them interesting. Karl shares that lack of filter. He is so honest and seems not to care at all what people think of him - I envy him for that. I don't think he is stupid, I think he is very smart, but there are areas where he seems to be amusingly lacking in knowledge and comprehension - which is very relatable. Most people are the same, but are too self-conscious to let anyone know.

i love the xfm podcasts, and so much of what karl says is actually so legit, but the way he asticulates might not be so clear and its easy to mock. he talks more sense than the vast majority of podcast guests. like when ricky questioned him about the water filter "if its not getting through its not getting through"..rubbish! of course you change filters! Or, thinking in sentences..not everyone thinks so conceptually, loads of people think in sentences. The coffee that is eaten then excreted then sold...absolutely true. So much of what he says is just genuine, but its a little ill-informed, bit embellished. lol. I could write a book on the dynamic of those 3 lol

"He's never gonna be a high flyer." I guess that gives you a great idea of the value of the education system and the shite the were shoving down your throat. I was born in the 60's and the U.S. and early in school teachers were always sitting me in the corner because the science they were teaching, I called them out on, "That makes NO sense!" *Alright, get in the corner* Now I've learned about quantum physics, I'm like, SEE?! I knew it!
