I am shopping for my first Fishing Kayak, and considering the Hobie you have. What was your thought on Pedal vs Motor?
@aaanglers3 жыл бұрын
@@havoc_64 The hobie pedal is the only all terrain option there is. The prop drives have instant reverse by somewhat less control, and you will run aground in shallow sections. The motor has the same issue, but obviously you don't have to do any work lol. My choice is Hobie because of the versatility.

The lesson from this video is that every rig is different and needs to be setup for your fishing situation. I have a 2020 Hobie PA12 360 and mostly fish the small streams in Missouri. My wifes uses my Jacison Coosa HD. The streams (rivers) are rarely over 4 ft deep. If they are, it is due to flash flooding and you shouldn't be on the river. Therefore, I don't need a fish finder. I take an extra change of clothes in a dry bag stored in my front hatch, just in case I flip over. I take a small paddle to push off of the bank. I have a small trout net to land the big fish which may be up to 18 inches for the river monsters. I have a storage bin attached to the H-rail for lures and various things like a Walkie Talkie to keep track of others in my party. There is a cup holder for the beverage. I add a cooler behind the seat for additional food and beverages. I take a couple of plano boxes to hold my various lures to put in the compartment in front of the seat. Other than that, I use the basic setup that came stock on my Hobie. Easy peasy. If I fish bigger waters, I take the bass boat.

Forget buying Hobie , no kayak is worth anywhere close to 3K let alone north of that . When they figure out how to make that great platform out of a superior material that's much lighter weight and longer lasting then it may be worth it but poly is DIRT CHEAP and degrades too fast with UV exposure . Manufactures make an absolute fortune on how much they mark these kayaks up .

Great, informative video, many thanks. I notice the vast majority of our American brothers are taking their Kayaks out on rivers and lakes. I wonder how the PA 360 handles on coastal waters? In some ways it seems like a heavy Yak that probably handles badly in the wind, especially in a smallish chop, but I see relatively little feedback from seafaring PA14/360. I would say Hobie Kayaks are Indeed very expensive for what they are, but your also getting plenty of innovative tech, 360 Mirage drives, etc. The latest Hobie hull designs are looking more and more alien to what would have been considered a proper sea going "sit on" Kayak hull, a few years back, but maybe I am wrong about that, and they handle very well in ideal to passible sea conditions. Out of the box, they look perfect for rivers and lakes, and maybe that's the whole point! Greetings from Ireland.
@aaanglers3 жыл бұрын
I have no sea going experience, but I agree. I don't think this is the ideal vessel for that. I know a lot of guys use the Outback on the salt though. Thanks for watching!
