EMR pens do not have batteries and do not charge. They use internal coils of wiring to interact with electromagnetic fields generated by the Scribe.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing!

The pen doesn’t charge… also I really love it as a primary reading device in landscape with 2 columns and being able to use the pen to highlight and make notes. It has replaced my paperwhite. I find it easier to get into a book with the larger more immersive screen. It also allows me to journal before sleep with the night mode and warm front light.

I actually really enjoy reading on the Scribe. I find the big screen ideal for reading while I’m having my breakfast and similar. It would never be my only reading device, but it is a pleasure to use in the right circumstance. I only wish they had a way to turn off / high the note menu when you’re wanting to focus on the reading experience!

I bought the 2022 Scribe during Black Friday. I was tempted by the new one on jade green and white but I don't need that much storage and I decided to save some money as I spend way too much on ereaders already. I just got my 2022 Scribe and I'm in love. The stylus is already in a drawer as I intend to use the device solely for reading.

I love the active canvas, BUT I wish there was a way to anchor comments to specific parts of the text so that this context/association would be carried out into the exportable notes. Of course handwritten sticky notes work like that, but the fact that they are hidden on the page makes them a poor option. I’d love sticky notes that remain visible on the page as active canvas notes, but can be linked to my highlights.

Disappointing they did zero upgrades to the Notebook app for people that like to draw on it. Seems they aren't listening to feedback at all. I love reading on the Scribe. The case lets it stand up in bed, or on your lap while laying down. I also found it easer to hold than the Kindle basic, due to it having a nice big grip bezel on the size. The kindle basic has a tiny little bezel that makes it difficult to actually hold, and turn pages.

What about the writing feel? Is it better than the old kindle scribe? Is the screen redesigned to give a paperlike feel?

I just updated my original Kindle Scribe, I don’t have the A.I feature you mentioned in notes? However, I do have the other new features you mentioned. I don’t like the new notes in book feature, it dominates the page, wish we could just write in the margins like we can in pdf’s.

I'm loving the software updates on my OG Scribe. I do think the notebook upgrades will encourage me to use them more. I will continue to use my Kobo Libra Color for books I want to annotate, but I will use it for general reading. I don't like the white bezel on the new device, so I didn't upgrade. I did get the new pen, and I like it a lot.

Love your reviews I bought the old scribe based on your reviews 😊 too bad the software features on the new scribe and on the old scribe after update (I updated mine) are only US. We Canadians always get the short stick. No Ai features and no audible. A lot of my friends returned the 2024 scribe when they found no Ai features. For Canadians all we get is the color and new pencil. Sad for Canadians ... still waiting for audible too. Keep up the great videos

I love my scribe, even though i have the 2023 version. For me it was never an issue that im not able to write on my books, i managed it quite simply. My only hope is that they will release a smaller scribe as i use it all the time and i haven't used my paperwhite ever since i got it. As a student it is super handy for note taking or annotating. It would be super handy for on the go reading and I was really disappointed that we didnt get a new oasis with note taking option with the new releases but so far nothing in sight. 😢

Ever since I got the original Scribe, it has been my primary eBook reader. I read mostly at home, & the Scribe is like reading a hardcover book, with larger type but still more words on a page. Paperbacks were originated as pocketbooks for mobility & because they were cheaper than hardcover books. As a "pocketbook" is how I use my Paperwhite 2021 now.

Great review, I didn't even realize the pen charged when you snapped it on. I've tested a ton of other kindles but skipped the first scribe, but ended up deciding to upgrade to the scribe after seeing your earlier preview video. I heavily highlight and notate books as a review writer, I hated tapping out notes on my old paperwhite and my vision has gotten worse, so the larger screen and pen have been a game changer for me.

2 things I desperately want and one of which would be really simple 1) being able to add new blank pages to the front of a notebook rather than to the end as a setting you can toggle. This is something traditional notebooks can’t do. 2) 2 column reading but one column is my ebook and the other column is a notebook or pdf (my reading journal). Split screen, really. Right now I use my scribe for notes and read off my kindle basic- and I think it shouldn’t have to be that way when a several hundred dollar piece of tech is in the equation.
@ManeetpaulАй бұрын
I love the suggestion for 2. That would be awesome. Regarding 1, you can do that. Just adds a blank page to the end of your notebook, then use the multi-page selector menu to move it anywhere, including the beginning.
@lutophАй бұрын
@ Thanks for sharing that, I’ll definitely play around with the setting. I would really love to have it be able to generate the new page at the front and have the process be as streamlined as it is for the other way. There are also wonderful templates for things like daily planners and reading journals that are great if you haven’t already explored them. I use the daily planner every day for work and it’s all hyperlinked and very navigable.

When I went to the Kindle launch event in October, the Amazon team definitely said something along the lines of "the pen basically has infinite battery life." Whether or not it actually has a battery doesn't matter too much, the experience is the same. You don't need to worry about it! With that being said, I appreciate the technical correction.

I have been using Kindles since the first generation. I actually really like reading on my Scribe . I prefer it, most of the time, over the Paperwhite or Colorsoft. The bigger screen is a bigger benefit to the disadvantage of the extra weight. The main exception is when I’m on travel. Then it’s the Papertwhite or, now, the Colorsoft. I rarely use the pen or note taking.

For taking notes, I have a reMarkable 2, a professional and efficient tool that effectively accompanies me in front of my customers. It allows me to create notebooks and folders in absolute comfort, thanks to its 10.3” screen. Regarding the Kindle Scribe, it is a high quality e-reader that offers me the opportunity to find my entire Kindle library in an ideal format for reading, especially at home. The big asset is the ability to annotate directly on the pages of the books thanks to an even more efficient stylus than that of the 2022 version. The note-taking function is a real plus, allowing me to organize myself without using paper. Finally, the feeling of writing on the Kindle Scribe is particularly successful, offering a rendering close to that of paper.

In the original promotion video I saw a quick to writing in a notebook. Switching from a book got a personal journal or any other notebook is very cumbersome full of too many steps - especially writing a note then coming back to your book.
@mikekane9881Ай бұрын
I’m disappointed with the active canvas feature. When you write a note, there is no way to anchor it to a particular word or sentence. A box is created around your note and, later, it might be difficult to know exactly what text your annotation refers to. This might not be an issue in every situation, but it would be great if you could drag the “canvas” and place it exactly where you want.
@ManeetpaulАй бұрын
In this case, you should consider just highlighting the word or sentence like normal, and then attaching a handwritten note to it
@mikekane9881Ай бұрын
@ You’re right. That does work better.

I like the Scribe for reading PDFs, but the notebook experience is SO subpar compared to Remarkable, Boox and other competitors. They clearly want to keep the product around, but treat it like a big e-reader that happens to take notes and not a proper notepad. I have both a Remarkable and Scribe for different use cases (notes vs. reading). The hardware on the Scribe is very nice and the battery life is amazing, I just wish they'd actually put some effort into the notepad features.

I like the size and enjoy it as a reader. But I still am really irritated about the data security. You can’t password protect notebooks or opt out of syncing them to the cloud. And if you share a kindle account, everyone can see your notebooks.

One thing I did not mention in the video: when you turn the Scribe on for the first time and go through the setup, it will prompt you to create a passcode for the device as a whole. It actually asked me twice after I skipped the first prompt. I know this isn't exactly what you were referencing, but I wanted to mention it.

I’d like to respectfully disagree on the reading aspect. I bought the Srcibe specifically FOR reading only and I’m very with it. My previous Paperwhite was becoming too small with me being forced to bump to size of letters to keep up with my eyesight. No I have a very comfortable reading experience again. My only issue is lack of quality cases for Scribe. The Amazon case costs almost 100 usd where I live and it’s not worth it…

I am so disappointed that my 2024 Kindle Scribe has a worse screen for reading than my 10-year old Kindle Paperwhite. The background on the Scribe is not really white but grayish, so the contrast is not as good. It's surprising Amazon could not figure out a way to provide a decent screen for reading on their most expensive Kindle. In the review, you did mention that you would not recommend this for reading but you did not address the screen quality. Thanks for your detailed reviews.

The AI Features (Handwriting improving & Summarization) are not available in Canada, Australia, and the U.K., i.e. outside the U.S.A. Very discouraging and a slap in the face for someone like me who has touted the Kindle Scribe from day one. In my opinion, no one should support this company unless/until this outrageous omission is corrected.
