Have you gotten a set of tsubosan hardness checking files? Made in Japan actually they make some of the best jewlers files up there with 1k swiss watchmaker ones. 50 to 100 dollars and there plus or minus 3 to 5 hrc. Being a knife maker I'm sure you can touch up a roll from a file. It's about the cheapest way to semi scientifically test heat treats. Good luck with the knives I hope they fly off the shelf.

Actually I just found them. Definitely looking like a low 60s Rockwell, which is what I was expecting.

Ain't that life. If you have to rebuy things and not because it's broken or worn out your in trouble 😆. I think back to all thoea snapped knives on forged in fire because the lack of annealing and blindly trusting a rc63ish general file and as we know unless it's d2 or 01 it dosent like to be that hard.
