Land Rover would be more of the aesthetic side of me and I think that I would not feel the vibe of being a driver if I'll force myself on the car that does not fit my wants and likes.

The low maintenance cost(depending/nation), performance, luxury(urban, offroad, formality), reliability, etc. The LC is somewhat an all around car, plus it fits my personality through complex perspectives in terms of viewing or driving an vehicle.

The defender is more impressive off-road and on-road than the landcruiser but it has air suspension and unibody which gives me stress as an off-roader and it has too many electronic components for an off-road vehicle. i would chose the landcruiser when going to remote places or a trip across the continent because it is the most reliable SUV in it's class and has body on frame and a solid rear axle which is less complex than the defender so chances of developing issues are minimal and if issues do occur(which they likely won't) then they are easier to fix because toyota mechanics are everywhere

It is only 75% and concerns only the old pre-defender versions, and they are on the road beause in Africa they can not afford new cars, not because there are reliable. New Land Rovers and Discoverys and Land Rovers spend 75% of the time at shop being repaired or waiting for parts or simply just waiting for someone to find out what is wrong with them in the first place.

I've had a terrible experience with landrovers. I've owned 2 range rovers and a landrover disvovery 4. The landrovers are useless unreliable money pits. You spend so much money on them. Between that landrover and the land cruiser, the land cruiser will still be going strong 15 yrs from today. You'll be lucky if that landrover lasts 3 years without serious issues.

Take away reliability and the defender beats the toyota in any activity easily... Am talking from experience with having driven the lc 200 and the defender on the same trail.... Watch the SUV wars channel too and watch how the new lc300 gets beaten by the defender,ford f150 raptor,g63 and range rover . Toyota is a smart buy because they play it safe with the tech that's why it's more reliable but giving it the crown as best off-road car is a reach.

The locked 80 series Cruiser was more capable than the real Defender. Moreover the 300 series Cruiser--GR inperticular-- would mop up the new luxury version of the Defender with its lack of wheel travel, independent suspension and lack of a real frame.... Defender fans should be embarrassed that they call that a Defender! I'm a Landcruiser guy, but I do have some respect for the original Defender. It was built with one thing in mind, to drive it in rugged terrain.

Its sad to see these two past icons now talking about chrome trim and how fast they are. They are spinning donuts and stuff now/ To me, its going the wrong way. Neither of these are ready for off road the way they used to. They are now not in the same league as Rubicons, Broncos and ZR2s.. yes they are faster and have nicer interiors, and bigger rims, but something is lost with these rigs. Now its about comfort and on road manners. Both have weak breakover angles and poor articulation. They dont even have back bumpers, or rear tow hooks? Landcruisers used to be reliable...I feel they are trying to sell that...but its unproven. I misss the coil springs and straight axles with lockers..and steel bumpers. I dont see the aftermarket really embracing either. Who really cares about how well they corner now, or a zero to sixty time...they sure never did before and they became icons...now, they are trying to take a bite out of luxury cars..It really is sad
