Nobody has any clue what Leatherman is doing. At one time it was built foremost with quality and function in mind. That’s why I carry one. Now they are catering to the collectors. Garage series, different colours.

word, my father gifted me a rebar when i passed my Civil engineer licence exam thinking it's the same as the leatherman super tool his sister got her 20+years ago. that super tool is beat up as hell but still going strong, to our dismay the rebar's tool is a lot thinner

The only reason I'd pay 275 for a tool would be if the quality was Victorinox or better. Only MT I'd buy above 100 dollars would be the Spirit MX Clip.

I would rather buy a silky compact saw, a morakniv, and my signal which does the rest for the same price. I will still use leatherman, but 50$ for a color is too much. I don't think they will sell many of these and the price might drive ppl like you away from the company entirely.

Leatherman became a trading cards company and not a tools company. I used a leatherman wave+ for a painting job last month and it was my best friend. Unscrewing light switches, old window shade brackets, opening up paint containers, etc. What direction is this multi tool company going..?

It’s because so many of its previous customer are short sighted and keep buying cheap imported tools, what else can they do while paying American taxes and wages ? So many people talk how much they love America until they have to pay the needed additional money, lol. It’s those guys that are across the whole market that are killing its future !😢

The Apple business model without the innovation and the walled garden. Perhaps someone should gift the CEO of Leatherman a Roxon Flex or a Tom Sachs NASA Leatherman Charge +, to remind him what improvement looks like.

I want leatherman to make high visibility color options like orange or yellow. Its pretty easy to lose a leatherman if you drop it in the dark. I work in the mining industry and often have to use my leatherman in poorly lit conditions.

I paint a lot of my tools with acrylic glow-in-the-dark florescent paint with my own personally identifiable color scheme (different color stripes). It makes my tools less appealing to steal/pawn and easier for me to identify on the job. The glow in the dark was just a bonus, but it's only beneficial if the paint has time to charge up before I get into a crawlspace or attic.

I bought a 12"×12" sheet of Multicam Black Cordura with the same 3M adhesive as the RGT Skins and made my own skins. I only paid $24 for the whole sheet instead of the $20 for a single set of skins. The ones I made myself came out great, and every time they wear out, I can make more, up to about 10 sets total.

It seems like they didn't address any of the issues with the arc. Fixing the wire cutter gap problem or rounding out the edges to make it more comfortable. For 50$ more its a pretty useless upgrade if you ask me.

This is a move with low risk for Leatherman in terms of spending minimal cash and launching something slightly different and see what happens. It’s smart to put out things with a very wide range of price points because otherwise they might miss out on selling to premium product buyers. Also makes the other products look cheaper to someone inexperienced comparing their offerings.

There was no way I was going to pay 230 for the first one and will not go near this one for 280. They need to make some more affordable tools. The cheaper off brand tools are getting better every year. No thanks Leatherman!

Will never buy it because it's way too much. 3 likes it but won't buy it because it costs too much. So I'll put it on a wish list and hope they get it for Christmas or something. I'm in the #3 group. It's how I got my Arc because I was not willing to spend 250$ on a regular arc. 300+ after tax and shipping. It's a big hell no to get a black one, but I would love it as a gift. Lol

It looks fine, and I have no objections to offering a tool in different colors. I just wish they'd do it all at once so that it's a consumer's choice, instead of dribbling the color options later as if it's an upgrade. Meanwhile, if you're looking for something for market research to study Leatherman, how about the Crunch, but given the skeletool treatment? Just the pliers, the wire cutters, and the two files, and we're good (knifeless because this tool doesn't need it and to make transport to job sites easier).

It all boils down to supply and demand. If suckers pay outrageous prices they'll keep charging crazy prices. No different than garage 7. $300 for a fixed blade. Insane especially since its not even a multi tool 😅

I truly love leatherman and I think the arc is amazing...but I have been carrying a surge for years and I really think is time for them to do something for the blue coaller guys that use heavy duty tool everyday we need a surge or a super tool 300 update ASAP

I like the looks of the original Arc a lot better. I don't like having to be gentle with a coated knife because I'm worried about scratching it!

Its way cheaper to do a coating or color option than it is to re tool your factory to make something completely new. Its a way for leatherman to meet demands and get more customers what they want while not taking a huge risk. Quite frankly its giving consumers what they want options. You now have the option of getting a pretty good cheaper option from china. Thats an option you are thankful for. I dont understand why people get mad about companies giving people options. If its not for u cool it might be for someone else. cant we just be happy for those that get what they want?

I'll never will pay 275$ for a multitool.I use a multitool for my edc tasks.I've to spend 275$ will be for a collection knive not for a multitool.Its a great multitool but so so much expensive for majority of leatherman buyers.

I will not pay that price and be willing to mangle it on any given task. I'll stick with my Bibury. It has yet to break, snap, go loose or blunt and it costs a fraction of the price. I used it to help rip out an old van interior, no problems.

It's a cool tool, looks nice. Diminishing returns though at the price. There's plenty solid clones out there now at budget prices which will do most people. However, warranty, heritage, made in the west with increased labour costs and initial innovation all come at a price. Interestingly the Bond now comes in new colours but they've updated the blade design to a better style. Thanks for the upload. Cheers 🍻

new colors , yet still no leatherman ratchet driver in stock that arc does look nice, but here in canada it will cost with tax around 410$, same value in US doller fortunatly In europe the leatherman arc costs 300euro wich is 330 US $ the never version is not available there yet but will cost most likely 350 Euro or almost 390 US $

They need to revamp the ST300 and the Surge. The Free technology is not as strong and the magnets are for many not ideal. The larger tools could benefit heavily from the locking system on the free series.

I really thought the Obsidian was going to be a stripped down ARC without the sheath or bit kit for $50 bucks less than the original. Or, even a P2 style with just Blade and Scissors for the long tools. I don't get it.

300 for a single blade knife is common so why is it outlandish for LM to be on par with that? If they cater to collectors and that makes them profit well that’s the point of a business. Its a good tool, but its overpriced. I also don't like the ergos and comfort when using the pliers... Hard square edges that bit into your hand... Does it work? Sure. But the Victorinox tools are half the price, just as well made and feel so much better in the hand... The one difference is that the Arc does use better blade steel, but I don't know that it justifies the price difference. At a manufacturer level, the cost difference between the Vic steel and Magnacut for a blade that size, is maybe $2. So charging a $100 premium is a bit of a stretch.

I like the color scheme but I won't make me buy another tool. I wish it was available last year. The leather sheath is nice too. Its a nice tool but for $250-300 dollars after tax. I bought my Leatherman Arc last year as my "Garage" purchase. I carried it for six months and pulled it out of the drawer to carry it again last night. The MagnaCut is the best part. I went back to my Leatherman second generation Wave and like the Gerber MP 600. Are you purchasing one Mr. Kincaid?

I’d stay away. I spent the $240 from their website and paid extra for engraving my name. They then sent me an item that looked like the engraving was done by a 3 year old. When I brought it to their attention, their response was that they’d refund the engraving fee, leaving me with a horrible engraving job. Reply

When the ARC was originally released, the way it was marketed seems to have attracted a lot of people from the EDC crowd. People who were not necessarily interested in it because they needed/used the tools or particular tool set, but more so because it made for good Instagram and Reddit posts when added to their carry. Looking at the recent things that Leatherman had been doing, it seems that these are the people they’re marketing and building for now. I’m not saying this is bad or good, just my opinion after some of their recent decisions. Hopefully they don’t ruin themselves.

@@sino8r499 haha ! No, no it’s not and I don’t plan on going just yet but as I now am retired all those things I never purchased as I was saving for the future are now available to me 😀. While I would never have purchased an ARC while I was still working, due to the magnets and the issue with it collecting steel fragments it’s perfect as an EDC for retirement or a non steel based working environment ! I literally have carried a multitool everyday for the last 30 + years of a variety of types I simply cannot imagine not carrying. I am however concerned the multitool might well go the way of so many consumer products, try buying an American or UK manufactured TV, HiFi, and so many other items. I understand the costs are much higher for a western tool but given the longevity over time the price is however low, my Victorinox prior to my ARC everyday carry lasted around 8 years and was only replaced due to wire cutter wear as that tool did not benefit from replaceable wire cutters the cost is more than reasonable ?

We have retired in rural Thailand and these tools are in frequent use near daily.

The Free/ARC series are in a class by themselves, I carried a Surge and several others including clones for a few months. Went back to ARC a couple days ago. The ease of use and tool quality can not be matched. Can you do the same work with other multitools? Yes, I have carried a DL30 a ton and its a great tool and can't be beat for the price. However pic up an ARC and it's like going from an '75 model pickup to a Corvette.
