I've always said every business is in the business of making money. You strike me as a business man first and a tradesman second, which is not a bad thing! I'm the same way. I landed in a roofing business but am going to pursue mobile welding next! I really just like working for myself. Welcome to North Carolina!

I dont see robots being able to weld on their own, at least not until the distant future. If anything robots will need to be human operated to weld to start, then later theyll evolve into machines capable of welding by themselves

Hey, I have just one question: I'm 17 and I'm currently in a career tech education center (CTE in Hancock MI), I plan on going to AWI in Wisconsin to get more certs, but I just don't know what welding industry I should get into... I'm very good at TIG and basically anything related to stainless TIG pipe welding/ pipe fit up etc. Any advice on what path I should choose or look into?

What happened? Did you get the red ass? Going from a pipefitter welder to a real estate agent is a major change in life. I'd like to get out of the Building Trades but the lack of knowledge and uncertainty holds me back. Good luck.

I wish you well in your new endeavor but I have to admit that I'm kind of sad. You and I share close to the same background, I think. I chased the pipeline and worked the oilfield for years. Then in 1986 the bottom dropped out of oil prices and businesses folded up over night. That welding rig did me no good when there was no work so I got into plumbing. Became a master plumber and then started a plumbing business which did very well but in my 50's it became harder and harder to work that hard and recover with one nights sleep. At that time I was able to hire into the best job I could have ever imagined and will retire in February. I'll be 67 and my wife thinks it's time I took it easy even though I have no health issues. Heh, I have a 65 Chevy C-20 in my back yard that I'm turning into a welding rig that I'll model after my first one that I built while still in high school. It was a 63 C-30 and even though this 65 is a C-20 I managed to fit a rear end out of a mid 80's F-350 under it so it'll support the weight and I can use adapters for the front wheels. I just wish I still had that old SA200 that I toted all over this damn country! So don't sell anything man because it'll always be in your blood! But I seriously do wish you well and know that with your mind set you'll do well. And you now have skills and knowledge that nobody can take away that will serve you well if needed. .

You don't need a real estate license to buy homes! But you will get an in depth knowledge by working in the field that will help you in your own endeavors in real estate. You're smart enough not to get wrapped up in the sleazy salesman bullshit you're sure to run across on the daily and make something good out of it.
