The new Mercedes EQB is a seven-seat electric SUV. It’s based on the regular GLB SUV, and one of a small number of EVs on the market that has space for the whole family and their friends. To separate it from its GLB sibling, the front features a blanked off grille, along with blue and copper detailing. The high-tech interior gets a pair of screens, along with all the luxury features you’d expect from a car costing over £50,000. The EQB launched with a pair of dual-motor powertrains, with a range of up to 250 miles. But with cheaper rivals offering more range, is the option of seven-seats tempting enough for the EQB to succeed against rivals like the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4? Nicola puts it to the test to find out.

I have the petrol version of this car and totally love it. My wife was sceptical at first but even she loves driving it. Loads of space in the second row but the third row is defiantly aimed at children but still a great option to have. If you want a luxurious feeling suv that has plenty of room, then go for this car.

Once again a great review Nicola! It certainly looks a little chilly for this review, that doctor who scarf doing a couple of laps and repeat appearance of the mittens to keep you toasty warm. I love that wizards magic wand bit. I guess with current technology available for mass production EV's this could well spell the end of the small city car where a tiny battery might just get it off the driveway. Unless of course small cars tow a battery 'tender' trailer that increases the range to a supermarket where parking could be interesting. The one pedal driving is perfectly fine I guess assuming you don't get an itchy toe on the right foot and where scrabbling to scratch your foot could cause some stop start traffic that could get a honourable mention on the traffic announcements. The thought of going away for a few days with seven people two of which may be permanently scarred for life having to be stuck in the foetal position really puts me off. I mean it might err... 'hum' a little on the way home with them all wearing the same now crusty clothes they started the journey n all. Eugh!. At least those in the rearmost seats would get a little break after 200 miles or so assuming of course that there skeletons had not set solid and couldn't be removed. I guess for days out it would be OK for five and the little dog sausages on the rearmost seats. It does look OK (apart from those rear grilled fake exhausts) and the inside really does look the part but as you say the price and the range are challenged by other manufacturers offerings.

Hardly going to vanish, if I buy an Internal combustion car in 2030 and keep it for ten years till 2040 that means they will still be around in 18 years. So hardly anything to worry about is it and hybrids will be on sale until 2035 and they will need petrol so the demand will still be there. Maybe by then evs won't be so outrageously overpriced. They might even be equipped as well as my current ice car if they can sort out the semi conductor issues and the long delays for factory orders. I did enquire about an EQA but was told if I want a safety aid like adaptive cruise control (and yes I do ) its an 18 month wait 😱 ) and I told them what they could do with that. £50k and that's optional? It's standard on my ice car at £20k less ( in fact its standard on a brand new Suzuki Swift at £14k) which is why I'm driving around in a brand new ice car that I didn't have to wait a year and a half for or pay extra for things. I hear Hyundi have removed some safety aids from the Ionic5 due to chip shortages as well. (Auto Lane change and side warnings I think it is) Maybe a bad time to buy any ev currently. Having had these features I wouldn't go back.

You gonna start worry when you see petrol price after 10 years.
@Beorn.
@Beorn. 2 жыл бұрын
@@christobalev3246 Hi, yes that is an issue admittedly but an ev that is equivalent to my current ice car is around £20k more in price and for me that works out to around 70,000 miles of fuel so I'm still better off with the ice. My petrol bill is around £50 a month. Plus at this time manufacturers arnt putting in safety features due to the semi conductor shortage, Mercedes EQA or C no adaptive cruise control, Hyundai Ionic 5 it's cross traffic alert and lane change assist. So pay more get less but that hopefully will improve. For me though it's not the time to change. Just to add maybe there's more cause for ev owners to worry. I have just had an email from my electricity supplier to say costs will be going up by £748 from April. So charging said ev is no longer going to be as cheap either potentially.

@Beorn.
@Beorn. 2 жыл бұрын
@@christobalev3246 hmm Thatcher tried that with poll tax. It will be interesting to see what happens with fuel prices because obviously the likes of Shell and BP want to stay in business and high fuel prices at the pumps are as you say going to drive customers away over to evs which I'm guessing they don't want. I'm in no way anti ev but I won't buy until I can make a case for one. At the moment it's pay way more and get less. I am a low milage driver and reaching carbon offset would take me more time than I would keep the car. I'm looking at pv panels as electric prices are shooting up so high, that would make a better case for me. Nice chatting with you anyway.

So the starting price of the EQB 300 is £52,145 and that should have a real world range of 210 miles. A top spec Skoda Enyaq 80x is £47,645, so £4,470 cheaper but is faster, has more range, a faster peak rapid charging rate, is arguably better looking and has a bigger boot (585L vs 495L). I just don’t see what the EQB has going for it over the Skoda, apart from a bit of badge snobbery.

@@SusieSmart I'm curious about it as there are few 7 seat EVs. For us, it'd be great for day trips with extended family and longer trips (with a full boot) for family of 4. Although, it's going to cost more than I'm prepared to pay it's definitely going to suit some.

Things people take for granted: where I live, in Ecuador, there's not a single electric car charging station but even if they were, a car like this would be perceived as a luxury car, attracting kidnappers and thieves. Half the range of a petrol vehicle, waiting hrs for battery charging to complete, battery materials sourced from questionable countries where child labor is used, power used to charge them mainly from non-renewable resources, and batteries that need to be replaced in 5-10 yrs typically the cost of replacing the WHOLE powertrain of a petrol. I'll pass.

Just ordered one. Electric to my house is 100% renewable, batteries will not need to be changed every 5-10 years, in fact they will outlast the car. And I can't drive my car 24 hours a day, so i will just charge it while I sleep for 25% of the price of Diesel. Battery materials need mined once, oil needs extracted for years and years to keep cars going.

This is rediculous about the ban by 2030. Electric vehicles are not thst environmentally friendly. When we havent got the infrastructure sorted out to cope with everyone going electric. Power cuts, blackouts, etc will be a regular occurrence. Hybrid makes most sense right now and possibly later move on. Trying to rush these vehicles onto the market is insane. Tax on electric vehicles is colossal, and their retail price is a lot higher than an equivalent petrol or diesel car. What is the world coming to????🤬🤬

Silly car. If all seats are occupied, you put some heating on and maybe switch on the heated seats and there is also some luggage on board the range will be very short! Aside from the horrible "BBQ" naming, all I see is another vehicle with laughable range that is pretty much unable to leave the city for a good driving day. EVs are cool,but we still have neither the battery, nor the clean power tech to back them, so all this ev craze does is piling up a lithium trash problem, no matter what Elon Musk and his disceples preach...The biggest issue is manufacturers are now pushing them on us because it is getting cheaper for them to make EVs than IC cars because they have far less parts while hybrids, which are the best solution, are by far the most expensive because theyre the most complex.
