New Mexico is a beautiful state, with a rich history. You provide a unique perspective, and have helped illuminate the relative information, to a reasonable conclusion.

Every time I see "Spanish" emphasized in descriptions of New Mexico, I know we're skipping over this conversation for simplicity's sake. The sad truth is, we often have to decide whether or not to play into ideas of european superiority to fit in. Thanks for this video Robert and please continue to talk about this.

Qué bonito capítulo. Muy bien elaborado. Gracias, Rob. ¿Por casualidad, va a hablar más de la invasión de 1846? Me encantaría oír más. Muy agradecido por la calidad del programa!

To this day I have an aunt who will go to her grave swearing we are pure Spanish, as I redo the genealogy she did, I’m like,” Yeah….not so much.”

Sheez, no wonder there was and still is such suspicion of Americanos! My parents would have preferred I marry a "Nice, well educated Spanish boy" 50+ years ago. I didn't.

For what it’s worth as an immigrant from Poland I perceived all Mexicans and New Mexicans as simply former subjects of the Spanish Crown. The only other thing that mattered was that these “ Spaniards” had “Real Churches” and not those “fake ugly churches that had no pictures of Saint or even the Blessed Mother”. I saw the Protestant Americans in NM the way Protestant Prussians and later Lutheran Nazis made Polish Catholics second class citizens in their ancestral land. May seem weird but just giving you a perspective of an outsider European with no skin in the game. I’ll also take a Habsburg monarchy over Democracy any day. Not popular opinion but people were treated better and taxes were much lower.

The catholic church also considered First Americans as non human savages as shown by their hierarchy by blood.
