I went on a camping trip at City of the Rocks for Halloween. One crazy experience was the bull snake that surprised the heck out of me in the restroom. I just love the crazy looking formations of the rocks all in one place. It’s so awesome. I uploaded videos of my trip.

We loved our stay at City of Rocks. It took us about 3 different site selections and attempts to finally successfully get into a site. We bottomed out on 2 sites. Look forward to a return trip there.

Cool! Looks like probably a a fall/spring camp trip? Have you guys done any at Coal Mine Campgrounds or dispursed camping in the mount Taylor area. Im planning on getting there this month or next. Looks awesome and not popular which I like, less people around the better.

City of Rocks is definitely better in fall-winter-early spring. We were there in Oct and it was still very warm during daytime. Coal Mine campground we haven't done - when looking at it online, it seems to be small camper only, no tent sites. Not sure it would work for us. If you go, please report back! Thanks for watching!

I camper there back in the 1990's. I enjoyed climbing around in the rocks. Our site was near the windmill, it makes noise at night if windy. If I recall though the showers are a drive back to by the Visitor Center. It is a pleasant place to stay.
@RobinT-treehugger3 жыл бұрын
Wow, that was a long time ago. YOu need to go back. It is awesome! The Visitor center was closed when we were there (Covid restrictions) so we never got inside. I have no idea about showers but that would be nice. If you are going back, be sure to report back how it was! Happy camping!

One of our faves!!! Been quite a few times. Find the petroglyphs- use the map at the visitor's center. Best experience when boondocking.

we haven't heard about petroglyph! Hopefully the visitor center is open next time we visit. Thanks for watching!

Group Site has the Gene & Elizabeth Simon Observatory with a 14" telescope in a roll off roof building run by the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces West members in Deming, see office for Outreach Stargaze nights. To camp there is strictly groups only and reservation only. Five 1st come sites only., but some campsites if its full and they have room offer to pay half their fee and share. You still pay full price per vehicle anyway.

I just looked at the website for NM State Parks regarding this campground and noticed that some of the campsites are completely missing (all the tent only sites) and if you search for tent site it lists some electric sites (?) and some regular campsites we noted. They also have left out some sites, 40-44 are not mentioned or shown on map at all. Very odd. I have no idea how you are supposed to book those sites unless you call and speak to an agent. Hopefully they will get all this fixed in the near future.

Tent sites may be closed due to the pandemic. Makes no freakin sense
@RobinT-treehugger3 жыл бұрын
@@chipdr911 there are some other sites missing also. I think it has to do with renumbering of the campsites but the reservation website (ReserveAmerica) hasn't updated their site to show new numbering. I tried talking to them on the phone about it back in Oct and they basically said, yeah we know, blah blah blah... we'll look into it. That is one of the reasons I put "don't reserve until you watch this video" so people can see the actual sites and not go according to the website map, which is wrong.

It was good some areas but not all. We had to drive around to get a signal to call out. Maybe it is different now, no idea. hope this helps.

Would have liked to see better shots of the rocks, at each campsite. At minutes 3:25, at the left side of the screen, it looks like a petrified head looking up at the sky. The entire place looks like a graveyard of giant petrified vertebrae.
