Loved Generation X, but the characters were never fully realized or integrated fully in the X-men team atmosphere, with the exception of M who is basically a powerhouse stalwart, and Husk who has truly been wasted. I hope they go the Generation x route, and include Magik! She could translate to movies really well, and dare I say possibly a female wolverine.

I'm glad Marvel comics properties are finally getting movies. But I'm not really into New Mutants, outside of: Magik, Moonstar (if she gets her original powers back), Sunspot & maybe Wolfsbane (if she's can change into a: wolf, werewolf, and gigantic wolf) . But their powers are minor enough that they shouldn't require too much of a big budget to do right. GEN X was my fav comic in the 90's. I hope they get a movie & it'd done right, unlike the pilot that came out in the 90's & can still be viewed on KZbin. Despite the extremely limited budget & lame lackluster villain, I still liked the Gen X pilot. Emma sold the pilot for me. The actress who played Emma got the character's personality down perfectly, but didn't physically embody her. Jubilee was ok, as was Skin & M was done pretty well but she was vastly toned down & didn't do too much. Banshee was ok, just the actor who played him kind of overdid the accent & didn't really look like him. Husk, Chamber & Sync were all missing from the pilot, namely because to do their powers would've broke the budget. I hope if they get a movie they use Emplate as the main villain along with his group of mutant teens called the New Hellions.

Grace, 1) I loved your Magik and Anole story you wrote years ago. I wish Marvel would do more of those kinds of stories (short and character driven). 2) So, while Jubilee is out, the other characters that have already appeared (Sun Spot and Blink) could be shown as their younger selves. 3) In fact, this film would do better if they focused on them being teenagers. The current X-franchise is all adults. Even Rogue from the first X-film was early teens. 4) Bringing in Emma Frost and Banshee would be super awesome. There are comic-book deaths all the time. And as you've pointed out in the past, throw in a line that explains their survival (both characters apparently died in the film universe). Emma Frost could be an ageless beauty along with the aging and wise Banshee. 5) I would also love to see Dani Moonstar (a fave of mine), Magik (who is seriously the craziest X-character that exist and I LOVE it), Cannonball and Husk (a sibling rivalry and bonding), Monet and Penence (the antithesis of the Guthries), Cypher (he gained some pretty wiked fighting skills in recent years thanks to his body language ability) or Prodigy, Magma or Firestar (her character has been gaining some recent appeal again), Chamber (like you said, he's visually awesome), and Elixir (who could end up being the future antagonist of the franchise). 6) A huge cast, yes, but it could be balanced out with great dialogue and group scenes.

Maggie Bui I like January Jones but her Emma Frost was very weak. She was like a robot with no personality, she didn't have a snobby british accent, and she used her diamond form more than her telepathy which seemed very odd to me. I know none of this was probably Januarys fault but it was just a very poor representation of the character in my opinion.

They did this for TV once already. It was called Gen X. they took Emma Frost and put her in as the Professor X of the TV show. I think skin was one of the characters.

I started watching your videos since last year, in your trailer breakdown of X-Men: Days of Future Past. You have a great insight to your reviews and you find that elusive middle ground of looking at a film (comic film specifically) objectively while still being a fan. In regards to this video, I think that a new mutants film would work better as a TV series. The X-Men universe in general is so large when it comes to both characters and storylines, that it's extremely difficult to even scratch the surface of all of that in a movie. While there is a not-so-great short history of live action mutants on TV (Generation X and Mutant X), this new era of comic films and tv shows with large shared universes is reason enough to try again.

I would like to see them put X-23 in the line up. Even though she isn't in the source material, this could be there wolverine replacement and she hasn't been used in the movies yet, and the movies and comics are almost completely different entities anyway. But overall I think this could work if they do it well, but going from TV to movie and such lack luster powers, the odds aren't really in its favor.

I think the entire reason they're doing a new mutants movie is to get a jumping off point for X-Force. To have a good movie to put Cable in a Xavier type role with these kids and then at some point he'll decide, "alright now that I've mentored this new group of X-men into a working team it's time I get my secret special ops branch going... My X-men that use lethal FORCE! Hmm maybe I'll recruit that one really mouthy mercenary who just had his own movie...." Lol purely speculation on my part but I could see this all being very well planned because believe it or not, Fox is actually starting to get things right.

Really with only at best a 50/50 track record I think Fox should just focus on keeping the main X-men brand strong for now. I very much doubt their ability to keep all these spin offs and reboots up to par. They have not been very good so far about building a cinematic universe. I think the new mutants could work if they pick and choose their characters well, but I doubt Fox's ability to pull it off as it tended to go to weird comic book places like Asgard and Limbo. I don't think they would able to mine the classic material very easily. This would probably require them to do a looser adaptation. If they did make a movie I'd want to see them fight Legion, the Brood or Phalanx and later Selene (even though she isn't a traditional New Mutants villain if they involve the White Queen Selene could be a great foil to her). It would be great if the introduce Selene in the first movie and built up to has the big bad. Honestly I always thought New Mutant/Generation X had a better roster of female characters than males (Only Sunspot and Rictor stood out in my opinion). It could be interesting if they set this up as like an all female spin off of the X-men. Ms. Frost's home for trouble mutant girl perhaps? Have a team involving Emma Frost Husk Magik Boom Boom Karma Blink Magma Mirage Wolfsbane M Setup some long term plans by having some of them not ready to join the team yet but keep them around as supporting characters for future movies. Give Magik a sort of Black Swan story arc where limbo is in her head but her powers make it real. Drop out Balasco for Witchfire as her evil alter ego showing up in dreams and mirrors before emerging in the real world from Limbo to adapt her weirdo magic powers. You could bring in a few of the male characters by having them date the girls allowing them to be in supporting rolls. I think it could work as well as anything and get Fox some much needed headlines. What do you think Grace? ^_^

I think it would be better as a show personally. Chamber/ Jono Starsmore is one of my favorite mutants! They've stated that he has the potential to be one of the most powerful mutants, which isn't surprising since he is a descendant of Apocalypse! Talk about potential storylines right there! I really liked his and Paige's romance. They were pretty adorable! M/Monet St. Croix is a badass female! I really liked her in X-Factor. She's tons of fun! Danielle Moonstar is cool. I like how she is one of Hela's Valkyries. Wolfsbane is a sweet character too! She is very complex. I like her struggles with her inner wolf and her strict Catholic beliefs she was raised with. Emma Frost needs WAY more love in these movies! I'm surprised you didn't mention how Karma is a refugee and a lesbian, Grace.

I love this move by Fox but hope they create a how new line-up and parallel team. For me it would work and make sense if they keep the "new mutants" introduced in X-Men :Apocalypse like Jean, Cyclops, Storm, Jubilee and Nightcrawler and add maybe Cannonball, Rictor, Dani or Magyk. I know a lot of fans would be very upset about this but also it would make sense in a business point of view and also Fox did this with First Class in the past so it wouldn't surprise me at all.

ha ha ha Fantastic Four... Deadpool ok nice... The New Mutants Movie, BETTER be like the comic, without the X-Force, maybe latter. Warlock and Cypher merged, would be a must for second movie... I think Magik would be a good lead, and Colossus as adult support teacher...with a new Storm(great way to introduce a new actor!!!). THE BEST is the multicultural aspects. I think the powers of Mirage should grow like Magik. Sunspot reboot. Warlock would be a great villain turn against his father etc. Wolfsbane is a must. Banshee and White Queen Queen...not sure. I think think keeping it young with few other X-men would be good but have them take a big mystery and troubles. I just see things developing slowly like the comic, but yes a teen aspect would be great but building things up as we go into a X-men reboot.

I thought we already kinda sorta saw New Mutants in Days of Future Past I mean Sunspot was one and so was Warpath and I think Shadow Cat was at one point. That said I welcome this or Generation X out an amalgamation as we all know they have never strayed away from doing that in the movies. Generation X would work if they kept to the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's but the name I don't think works for a movie. Maybe The New Mutants: Generation X. But with Jubation Lee in Apocalypse and the leaders dead, I don't see that concept working. The new mutants are better suited to the movies because of all the special CGI effects they would need. With the original group, they would need Wolfsbane shifting between wolf mode and human originally she didn't spend much time in a werewolf mode. Magma would be a girl made of lava, Cannonball would need his afterblast. Sunspot is all energy. Mirage would need her illusions Warlock would need to be all CGI. Shadowcat (kitty pride) that was demoted from X-men could phase through anything Magik would need effects for her magik spells. You can't have Magik without Lockheed. That would be another nightmare All of that would be almost impossible on a TV schedule. The newer versions might be different but I read the ORIGINAL New Mutants from back in the 80's when they first came out.

Well, the director of New Mutants has been a hard core fan of this team since he was young so I am hoping he will do the film justice for the fans of all degrees as well as avid movie goers. The 1987 film referenced here was quite decent. As for January Jones I am not expecting her to be in it being that this won't be in that era. I personally would like to see it have Cloak and Dagger. And unless someone actually can DO Jubilee correctly for once and have her use her powers to knock out electronics skip it. I am fed up with studios messing up her character.

I've never read New Mutants, I've only read New Mutants volume 2 from about a decade ago, that was the first comic book series I ever read and I hope that gets made into a TV show(on a network that would allow the death of a lot of children). Dani's the only original New Mutant I know anything about and that's because she was a teacher in volume 2 but I'd still look forward to a movie version of the original New Mutants because I'm an X-Men fan(still hoping the main franchise goes back to having an older cast though).

Sjono They own the rights to the IP and they own a TV network. They wanted a TV series they make one and they did. It just was a terrible made for TV movie. Hell neither the Marvel movies or series can use mutants or the word 'mutant' because they own the right to it under X-men IP. So no Marvel and Disney have no say what they make into a series because they don't have the rights to any of it. This arrangement is why there's perceived resentment to the point the Mouse is directing Marvel to downplay the titles it doesn't have the rights to any more like X-men and FF.

They own movie rights. That doesn't mean they own the entire IP completely to themselves. For example there are still X-Men comics being made without any relation to Fox. Yesthey have a TV network to themselves but they still need Disney's permission to get the television rights. Disney knows how big the X-Men film franchise is getting, so I doubt they'd want to promote it further by allowing an X-Men TV series. Fox never bought the rights for a television X-Men series, so its not their say make one. Otherwise they'd have already announced plans by now
