People should know by now that the Switch is not taking over the 3ds. The 3ds/2ds its is own thing that coexists with the Switch as Kimishima said. Just by being able to play games that can't be played on the Switch or anywhere else is what makes the 3ds unique and worth getting.

Kind of pisses me off when "Switch owners" are demanding that the 3DS dies or whatever. I FOR ONE *do care* about the continuous existence of the 3DS. It has an AMAZING gaming library, pleases me WAY MORE than the Switch with its clamshell design and would definitely want to see more games being released on it considering that I couldn't care less about buying a Nintendo Switch at this current period of time with its abysmal 1st party game library as well as the fact that it doesn't have a secondary foldable screen like the 3DS (which is probably my all time favorite design for a handheld system).

The Orange and White design looks too cringy to look at. I would prefer the Blue and Black design better because it looks slick, slim, and the colors work off each other so well that I can't describe it. I'm pretty hyped about this. For a person who doesn't have a 3DS but have been glancing at them for a while, this might be a really good choice for me. And since I'm not really enthusiastic about 3D it's even better. The thing I'm considering though is weather the virtual console library will be as extensive as the new 3DS consoles libraries, because I really want to be able to play the NES and SNES titles from it.

Mostly because they think they know how to run a business :/ and they think it's viable for a company as big as Nintendo to strait up abandoned one market for the other. After all the switch offers a different experience from what the 3ds does and one of those differences is duel screen gaming just look at Etrian Odyssey that works so well on two screens :D

Definitely not, entire point of 2ds was elimination of the clamshell to make it more durable and cheap. They still keep releasing 2ds bundles to this day most recently the Mario maker edition.

A good launch doesn't mean long term success though. If they don't get games out quick enough, hype and interest drops off quickly. The 3DS also has like a 65+ million install base and adding to that means that they will continue to get software sales from a massive number of people. It makes zero sense to kill the 3DS line right now.

I have a few already so I can't justify getting another, but I wish this was the one I had lol Given this is basically a 2D XL version of the New 3DS XL, just slimmer and with better battery life while being much less to manufacture and selling for less, I imagine this will probably be the standard model they produce going forward for the remainder of its life. The cheaper price helps separate it from the Switch as well, which the New 3DS XL was awkwardly close to in price. Finally, it's a cheaper way for people to upgrade to the better processing power required for some of the more demanding titles. Overall I think it was a great idea, and it was also smart not to distract in their E3 presentation by just announcing this ahead of time.

I'm thinking of trading in my old 3DS XL and getting a 2DS XL. I never used the 3D slider at all since I owned it and its hinges bother me. Hopefully the 2DS XL's hinges are better, because I had a DS Lite's hinge crack on me and it was not pleasent. I will admit, I do have three systems, one of them being the nXL but... I honestly like the design. Compact, sleak, doesn't seem to have anything goofy about it. Also, they moved the volume rocker back to the bottom half of the system as well as moving the home button to the left side. I kinda wish I coulda snagged one of the small n3DS with the faceplates but since time and time again it's been proven that day won't come, I'll settle for this. Cheaper, too. My two cents.

Idk who the target market is for this product, but I will buy it. My 3ds XL had water damage last year and I couldn't get it fixed. I am not willing to buy another 3ds XL because of the price. So I just have a lot 3ds games that I wish I could play again. I was not a fan of the 3D, so this is perfect of me.

NintendoBoy6710 I don't, at least often, but those with relatively big hands may find an issue. Though the stylus is way too small. Gave me blisters on my hand.

@GameXplain while you're discussing the placement of the speaker(s) you have a picture up from the official website that clearly indicates that there are two speakers and they're placed at the bottom left and right corner of the bottom half xD and "the thing in the middle" of the hinge is the camera :P

I still have to get my 3DS XL A Link Between Worlds edition (my favorite), but man I fell in love with this freaking design, no complains at all, great crafting, sadly I love the 3D in my games, I´m playing Bravely Default and it really makes a difference

I think this is a good choice for those who want a affordable 3DS with the "new" features who haven't gotten a New 3DS or New 3DS XL yet. I only have the OG 3DS XL, so I may jump on this. It's just going to suck not having the 3D, but I don't think I'll necessarily need it anyways.

it was smart for nintendo to treat 3d as "an option" & "not a necessity". they said on occasion the SWITCH IS NOT A 3DS SUCCESSOR. Simultaneously i don't know what to think about this 2ds XL. for me, the appeal is the price of $149.99. other than that Nintendo is definitely solidifying it's dominance in the handheld market. The SWITCH & The DUAL SCREEN FAM (3ds xl & 2ds xl) ...Go Nintendo!!!
