This is weird, because in OH the castle doctrine states the vehicle is an extension of one's home, and in OH law you do not need a permit to carry a firearm in any fashion or manner, but yet those standards do not stand up to a vehicle despite ORC stating the vehicle is an extension of someone's home per OH Castle Doctrine....

No, sorry. The way the law is written any felony disables a CHL. Best you can do is hope for constitutional carry to pass. Last session the bill was HB178

great video, what would be great is an easier way to renew the CCW license. in Cuyahoga county you have to make an appointment online and wait. mine about a month and a half! then wait up to 45 more days to process before they mail it too you!. I'm still waiting. Bullshit. they should renew them like the driver's license. Get it the same day!

My company has a policy in the handbook that says employees can not carry firearms on them on their property. They also have a sign on the front door with a no guns sign. Now i deliver cabinets for this company, and drive their trucks to deliver them. Am I allowed to carry in their trucks when I'm making deliveries?

I just found your videos and enjoy them. Under the new law can you can lock it in your vehicle. But what is defined as locked? Just being in a unlock-able glove box or compartment with the vehicle locked count? or does that compartment have to be lock-able? "Each firearm and all of the ammunition remains inside the person's privately owned motor vehicle while the person is physically present inside the motor vehicle, or each firearm and all of the ammunition is locked within the trunk, glove box, or other enclosed compartment or container within or on the person's privately owned motor vehicle"

I have a question regarding storage of your gun in your car well in the parking lot of your employer. I was under the impression that 1. your vehicle, under law, is considered private property and that 2. As long as you were within State and federal guidelines of storage and transportation of a firearm, ie locked in your trunk, your employer could not prohibit you from having the firearm in such a way consistent with state and federal law?

I wanted to revisit this video for clarification now that this law is active. It sounds like to have a firearm in my vehicle in my employers property I need to have the handgun in a locked container such as a safe beyond just being in a locked car. Is this true or is just a locked car good?

Aaron O'Brien having it locked around the base of your seat or in a safe prevents it from being stolen but the law says that it needs concealed. Meaning that it cannot be seen easily from the outside of the vehicle.

How about this got pulled over by the cops let them know that there was a handgun in their vehicle it was locked in a box and that I had the clip on my person there was no ammo cop wrote me out a receipt for my handgun went to the judge judge issued me the papers to pick up my handgun the lieutenant refused said that he wasn't happy and the prosecutor wasn't happy went to court the lieutenant got to speak send the judge that issue the papers to pick it up issued the gun to be destroyed within 10 days I asked the judge do I have a say so the right to speak he issued me 10 days to get a lawyer I got tired of constantly fighting and just let the handgun get destroyed how can the lieutenant go against the judge's order then the judge turned against me

So my employer (General mills) issued a policy to where they want you to sign it stating that you're bringing a gun on their property, they want to see and make a copy of your licence every month and they also want you to unload your gun before coming onto the property. I've refused to sign this but also I'm not bringing my fire arm either. I think it's illegal but I am unsure. Thoughts?

@munitions I have been looking online for weeks now and have not gotten a direct response to an important question. I live in Dayton, Ohio. I do open carry. I have asked 3 different officers of the law and I have gotten different views and answers. My question is, can my open carry have a loaded clip inside the firearm? I do not have my CHL and I am aware of the laws with transporting my firearm. I just need to know if I can open carry loaded. Thanks for your videos.

Yes. O.R.C. 9.68 States you are allowed by the state and untitled states constitution to openly carry in the state of Ohio. If they ask for an ID, O.R.C. 2921.29 says you do not have to ID unless you are reasonably suspected of a crime. Carrying a loaded handgun (openly) is a lawful act in the state of Ohio. Once you conceal it, you’re in trouble. Some cops will stop you and harass you but if you know the law and are confident, most the time you’re fine. They may try to say you’re inducing a panic. Neighbors are calling scared, etc. O.R.C. 2917.31 says you’re not inducing a panic. Unless you’re walking around like a crazy person, brandishing your firearm, or yelling FIRE, you’re fine. Carry on and the law is your friend if you know it.

What does "prohibit" mean? If my employer says no guns allowed on their property, does that mean they can fire you for having a gun in your vehicle but not charge you with a crime? Can they ask to search your car if someone says they know I have a gun in the car?

Ohio is an "At Will" state and therefore an employer can fire an employee for ANY reason provided that reason does not violate the law (discrimination based on race, religion, gender, etc.) If the employer says NO GUNS on PROPERTY, an employee can be fired for bringing a gun on the property. Employer can ASK to search employee's car. Employee can refuse. Employee can then be fired. See how that works.

You have to be 21 to get a CCW license. It is up to the instructor, if you can take the class. I let 18 year olds take my class. The class certificate is good for 3 years.

No. In fact, I do not recommend that someone goes out and buys a gun for class. Too many times, have I seen a student show up with a gun they bought the day before, and it isn't the right gun for them.

Mental disability, AFAIK, does not automatically disqualify. I know of people who are medically deemed disabled due to psychological diagnosis (mental disability) that own and carry firearms in Ohio. Having too low of an IQ score (mentally disabled) by itself does not make a person prohibited. Adjudicated incompetent (has guardian), involuntary commitment for more than observation, etc can make one a prohibited person. Being mentally disabled alone does not prohibit.
